ProHipHop Relaunches Focused on Hip Hop Marketing

Hip Hop Trade Blog ProHipHop Now Covers the Marketing of Hip Hop and the Use of Hip Hop in Marketing

April 19, Raleigh, NC - ProHipHop relaunches this week at prohiphop.com with a focus on hip hop marketing from the marketing of hip hop to the use of hip hop in marketing.

As a trade blog, ProHipHop offers news, analysis and special features related to hip hop marketing. In addition, popular features developed for ProHipHop during its hip hop business days will continue, such as weekly updates of new Hip Hop Album releases and the MySpace featured artist series.

"Focusing on marketing allows ProHipHop to examine hip hop's impact in business and in culture. Hip hop has provided new forms of marketing, such as street teams and mixtapes, and is a musical and cultural force on which marketers are eager to draw," states Clyde Smith, author of ProHipHop.

ProHipHop welcomes tips, photos and responses related to ad campaigns involving hip hop. Marketing professionals open to being interviewed by email regarding particular hip hop ad campaigns are also invited to contact:
clyde(at)prohiphop(dot)com

The relaunch of ProHipHop follows the move by Hip Hop Press, the free hip hop press release posting service, to its own domain at hiphoppress.com. Hip Hop Press was originally created in order to provide a reference source for ProHipHop posts and has grown into a useful and popular service in its own right.

Submit press releases and related promotional material to:
hiphoppress(at)netweed(dot)com

ProHipHop is written by Clyde Smith, PhD and was launched in November, 2004 in San Francisco. Hip Hop Press followed in April, 2005 and was originally hosted at netweed.com. Clyde Smith and all related digital projects relocated to Raleigh, NC in January, 2006.

More on Duke Lacrosse Rapists

I found an article on the Duke lacrosse rapists at Lynne d Johnson's blog that I meant to track down earlier.

In Not your video ho, Fiona Morgan helps bring out the race element for black female students at Duke which I may appeared to have glossed over in my previous post on Duke's lacrosse rapist controversy.

I certainly didn't mean to. I was just trying to make sure that people understood that women getting raped at Duke is not a new phenomenon, by any means. I guess that's a no brainer too unless you don't know much about Duke.

In any case, the coach offered his resignation and Duke University President Richard Brodhead described it as an "appropriate step".

Look, It's Lady Sov!

lady sovereign

I really dig UK grime rapper Lady Sovereign and I think that she'll eventually find a solid audience in the States, even if it's not a "traditional" hip hop audience. My sense is that she's getting picked up more by the indie rockers who dig hip hop (no, not rap/rock, different demographic) but I'd love to see her take off in the teen girl market.

MTV Overdrive recently featured Lady Sov but, since they don't or can't deal with Mac owners due to the use of Windows Digital Rights Management by their site, I'm not linking to them.

But it did remind me that I've been meaning to do a Lady Sov post with some of the audio links I've been getting from Cornerstone's Calvin Hwang.

Unfortunately, I slept on the link to the actual track Random off the Vertically Challenged ep and it's dead but here's the video:
240X196.mov
320X256.mov
320X240.wmv

I like the fact that she plays with some American slang in a funny way. I'm betting that people are mistaking her for a cute pixie, since she is partly a cute pixie and plays to that in some of her lyrics. But I've read at least one interview where she talks about her scrappy side and it's no joke. She will throw down without hesitation, but that side is understandably downplayed.

Random gets remixed as:
Random Rucker & Sindens Vocal Mix
And there's a video for this track as well.

Additional remixes:
Adidas Hoodie Remix feat. Mizz Beats, Skepta, JME, Ears, Jammer & Baby Blue
Ch-Ching XXXChange Remix

Official Lady Sov site and MySpace page.

Available from Amazon:
Lady Sovereign - Vertically Challenged.

Duke Lacrosse Player's Email Uncovered by Cops

I just read about the disturbing email that was recently uncovered in the case of the male Duke lacrosse players accused of assaulting and raping a black female stripper that they hired for a party. Now the investigation will include possible charges of conspiracy to commit murder.

I haven't commented on this case here in the Triangle, though I'm living in Raleigh, about 20 minutes away, and I've noticed other hip hop bloggers picking up on it (links to follow if I find them again). I've been remiss for two reasons. One, it's something I would post here at Hip Hop Logic and this blog is the first to go when I get busy. Two, I lived in Durham for a couple of years in the 80s. I've heard many stories like this from white female Duke students who were victims so the addition of racism in the mix is a no-brainer.

By that, I mean, the stripper's allegations fit every story I've ever heard about men at Duke like the lacrosse team members. The racial angle and the fact that the woman called 911 has helped bring into public view the long-term sickness that pervades certain sectors of Duke's student body.

Believe me, this is just the tip of the iceberg.

For local news coverage, the Independent Weekly's blog dent, based here in the Triangle, seems to be following things pretty closely.

dent links to the full text of the asshole rapist lacrosse player's email message posted at The Smoking Gun.

Just saw this update at Lynne d Johnson's blog and it reminded me that there's another blog keeping close watch on the situation:
Justice 4 Two Sisters.
