Cruz One Records was formed in 2001 and in that time the fledging label has already begun to identify itself as an "entertainment empowermenthouse". "During this process I realized there are many types of people in hip hop and government. This partnership illustrates the effectiveness of what happens when like minded individuals come together for the benefit of the community," underscores Shaun Cruz. Cruz One Records was able to secure funding after a year of grant writing and project proposal submissions. The funding from these government agencies is used to promote Cruz One Records music and develop jobs in the local community.

As a label owner and artist, some of Shaun Cruz's accomplishments include, cross country tours, performances at the first annual Hip Hop Hall of Fame induction ceremony, and numerous, televised victories on "Showtime At the Apollo". His crowd pleasing performances of his hit single, "Cruz Control" attracted the interest of every major and independent label from here to Los Angeles but Shaun Cruz decided to take destiny into his own hands. By creating his own record label, Shaun can control the creation and promotion of his music.

The evening's showcase provides an opportunity to network, enjoy performances by Cruz One Records' artists, other independent artist, a jazz trio provided by the Jazz Foundation of America and the sensational salsa/bomba band Zon del Barrio. There will also be brief presentations by elected officials, a chance to view the Museum's exhibit, El Barrio: Puerto Rican New York, an intimate retrospective of East Harlem's fascinating history and a wine and cheese reception. -###-
