The Ruler of Hip-Hop Returns to New York City for a Live Performance with Special Guest DJ and Artist Performances

Slick Rick will be headlining a special NYC event at CLUB STRATA, also featuring DJ Scratch on the 1s & 2s, performances by Kel Spencer, and other hot new artists

(PRWEB) May 25, 2005 -- Prototype Entertainment (www.prototypeentertainment.com) and Vox Entertainment (www.voxentertainment.org) to present The Ruler Returns to NYC, on Thursday, June 23, 2005 at Club Strata (915 Broadway @ 21st St., NYC, www.stratanyc.com). Headlining this event will be one of hip-hops most notorious and legendary MCs, Def Jam recording artist Slick Rick. The DJ for the evening will be the incomparable DJ Scratch. This event will also feature performances by Kel Spencer (Brooklyn rapper/writer of Will Smiths smash single Switch, the winner of an EPK submittal contest through Sonic Bids (www.sonicbids.com/openforslickrick), as well as selected artists on the cusp of breaking out into the mainstream.

Slick Rick is worldly known as one of the godfathers of modern hip-hop. Such landmark songs as "Treat Her Like a Prostitute, Mona Lisa, "Children's Story" The Show, and La Di Da Di, have publicly been to known to have influenced artists such as Snoop Dogg, Outkast, and Jay-Z. The last show Slick Rick did in the NYC area was flooded with media and press: 6.21.04 at NJPAC to raise money for the Democratic National Convention (along with Wyclef Jean, Doug E. Fresh, Black Moon, Akon and MC Lyte). This event marks the return to the NYC area after almost a year hiatus.

DJ Scratch is one of the most prolific DJs ever to grace the turntables, as he has performed in global markets such as Europe, Asia, and Australia, as well as arenas in the North America like Madison Square Garden in NYC, The Fleet Center in Boston, and the Molson Centre in Toronto. His fan base is true hip-hop, both old and new school. This is evident in his past and present associations/collaborations with EPMD, Busta Rhymes, and 50 Cent.

The rest of the card features unsigned but up-and-coming hip-hop acts, one, Kel Spencer, that has already written megahits for Will Smith, MC Lyte, and Nick Cannon, including Smiths newest smash single Switch.

This event will also feature a one-of-a-kind opportunity for unsigned artists. In conjunction with Sonic Bids of Cambridge, MA, there is a contest running where one artist will be chosen out of hundreds to open the show, via submitting their Electronic Press Kit (EPK).
