Hip-Hop Pioneer DMC Backed by All-Star Artists at Canada's Live 8 Concert

TORONTO, June 29 /CNW/ - Organizers for Canada's Live 8 concert today
announced that DMC of the trailblazing, multi-platinum rap group Run-DMC, will take to the stage with some very special guests at Park Place on Saturday, July 2nd. Live 8 takes place from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m., with doors opening at 9 a.m.

The all-star line up to join DMC includes:

As a performer at the Live Aid concert 20 years ago, DMC is honoured to
again be a part of the international effort to eliminate the debts of the
world's poorest countries. The Canadian concert, along with 9 concerts
happening concurrently around the world, is a call for justice for Africa and
the world's poor.
"I was happy to support Bob Geldof at the original Live Aid in 1985 with
Run-DMC and it's really amazing to have the opportunity to make another
contribution nearly 20 years later for such a worthy cause," said DMC.
Darryl McDaniels, a.k.a. DMC, helped transform the musical landscape as
one-third of the legendary band Run-DMC, which has sold more than 30 million
albums and singles world-wide. Since forming the band with Joseph (Rev. Run)
Simmons and the late, Jason (Jam Master Jay) Mizell, DMC has remained in the
public eye for the past two decades, recognized as a pioneer in stoking the
popularity of rap and hip-hop into the best-selling and most influential
musical genre that it is today.
In September, DMC will release his first, much-anticipated solo album
Checks, Thugs and Rock 'n Roll. Featuring Sarah McLachlan, Run, Doug E. Fresh,
Gary Dourdan (CSI), Kid Rock, Fieldy (Korn), DJ Lethal, Ms. Jade, Sonny Black
and Napoleon (Outlawz), the album pays homage to the musical influences of his
youth, offering a tribute to the likes of Bob Dylan, Harry Chapin and Jimi
Event organizers regret to announce that due to scheduling difficulties,
Tegan and Sara will not be able to perform at Live 8.
Hosted by Canadian comedians Dan Aykroyd and Tom Green the star-studded
line-up of previously announced performers at Canada's Live 8 concert, include
Bryan Adams, African Guitar Summit, Jann Arden, Barenaked Ladies, Blue Rodeo,
The Bachman Cummings Band, Bruce Cockburn, Tom Cochrane, Deep Purple, Celine
Dion Doba Caracol featuring Kna'an, Great Big Sea, Les Trois Accords, Gordon
Lightfoot, Motley Crue, Our Lady Peace, Sam Roberts, Simple Plan, The
Tragically Hip, Jet, and Neil Young.
In addition, ticket holders will enjoy satellite feeds of Live 8 concerts
from across the globe, featuring Pink Floyd, U2, Sir Paul McCartney, Stevie
Wonder, Sarah McLachlan and many more.
CTV is the official broadcaster of Live 8 Canada. In what is shaping up
to be an historic, all-day, rock and roll television event, CTV plans to
broadcast Live 8 coverage all day beginning in the early morning. Canadians
will see coverage from Live 8 concerts in Tokyo, Johannesburg, Berlin, London,
Rome, Paris and Philadelphia. The centerpiece of the day happens at 11 a.m. ET
when CTV will begin broadcasting Live 8 Canada in its entirety, live from
Barrie, Ontario. At approximately 8 p.m. ET following the conclusion of Live 8
Canada, CTV will air a "Greatest Hits" recap with highlights from the most
memorable performances of the day from around the world. CTV will announce
exact coverage details shortly.
Live 8 is part of a day of action across the world, which kick-starts The
Long Walk to Justice that calls on the leaders of the world's richest
countries to act when they meet in Gleneagles, Scotland, July 6-8. On July 2nd
in Toronto, London, Edinburgh, Berlin, Philadelphia, Washington, Paris, Tokyo
and Rome, millions will come together to call for complete debt cancellation,
more and better aid and trade justice for the world's poorest people.
