Mos Def to Headline Hip Hop's Biggest HIV/AIDS Benefit Concert in NYC & East Africa

Emmy Nominated Actor and Hip Hop Artist Mos Def Will Join a Growing Concert Roster of A-list Hip Hop Artists as Headliner for the 8th Annual Black August Hip Hop Benefit Concert in NYC This August.

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 4, 2005 -- In the month of what is said to be his final CD release date with Geffen Records, A-list Hip Hop artist and Emmy nominated actor Mos Def will hit the stage to headline the 8th Annual Black August Hip Hop Benefit Concert on Sunday August 7, 2005 in NYC, before continuing on his successful path towards silver screen stardom.

As the largest annual Hip Hop benefit concert to date, this years proceeds will go towards promoting HIV/AIDS awareness and research funding in Africa and the Hip Hop community.

Mos Def, along with this years growing concert roster of chart-topping Hip Hop artists will join a rich tradition of A-list headliners who have donated their time and talent to perform for Black August as a means to champion and raise funds for causes that are held dear to the Hip Hop community. Previous Black August performers have included Fat Joe, Erykah Badu, David Banner, Common, Talib Kweli, and many others.

The August 7th NYC concert will be held at the legendary B.B. Kings Blues Club in Time Square and will kick off two international benefit concert dates to be held on August 18th in Arusha, Tanzania and on August 20th in Dar El Salaam, Tanzania in East Africa.

Black August consistently bridges the gap between Hip Hop communities all over the Diaspora and the world, says Mos Def. The rapid spread of HIV/AIDS in Africa and the Hip Hop community is a serious issue and I am proud to be a part of Black Augusts efforts to help bring awareness to it, he continued.

Tickets for Black August go on sale through Ticketmaster in July 2005. For more information on the Black August concerts in NYC, Arusha or Dar El Salaam, please contact Jennifer A. Williams of J Sharpe Agency Public Relations at 718.774.6264 or e-mail protected from spam bots.
