Live 8 Technology Outreach Enables 26.4 Million to Petition G8 Leaders

Worldwide Live 8 Concert Initiative Becomes Most Successful Political Call to Action Ever

LOS ANGELES, CA; LONDON; and GLENEAGLES, SCOTLAND -- (Market Wire - Jul 07, 2005) - The simultaneous outpouring of support, text messaging and Web signups sent to Live 8 headquarters in London, as announced at Live 8 Philadelphia Saturday, represents the largest real-time petition ever, according to Live 8's US mobile and wireless producer Ralph Simon, CEO of mobile advisory firm, Mobilium. (www.mobilium.com) The tally of 26.4 million messages sent to the G8 is a tapestry of text messages, mobile and traditional email messages and Web signups, with further breakdowns by category and country still being aggregated and compiled.

Representatives from America Online (a sponsor and Internet broadcaster of Live 8, which itself set a record of 5 million video downloads for the event), Nokia (another major sponsor) and Sun Microsystems (which provided some of the technology infrastructure for the mobile messaging component) joined Simon at a packed Live 8 backstage press conference where the preliminary tallies were announced. Simon today reiterated the importance of this development, calling on G8 leaders to take note of the significant number of constituents who messaged their support. Three other companies that played a vital role in facilitating the global messaging campaign were USA Wireless, Minick Group in London and Europe and Starcut of Finland.

"The original Live Aid in 1985 raised more than $100 million from tens of thousands of individuals and sponsors," said Simon, "whereas twenty years later, Live 8 has raised the awareness of as many as 2 to 3 billion viewers around the globe on the urgent issue of world hunger and poverty, and in doing so has mobilized more than 25 million messagers to demand their leaders increase aid by some $25 billion. This high-volume response would not have been able to take place twenty years ago without the combination of mobile and Internet technologies."

Simon, who currently serves as chairman of the Mobile Entertainment Forum (MEF) Americas, was drafted in to provide the global mobile layer to the Live 8 events that took place in ten cities on July 2nd. Popularly known as one of the founders of the modern ring tone business, Simon has a close working relationship with Sir Bob Geldof and Bono of U2, as well as Live 8 USA executive producers Tim Sexton and Kevin Wall. This unparalleled cooperation between the music, entertainment and technology industries in itself sends a powerful, unified message to the G8, now underway.

Simon is regarded as one of the world's leading authorities on mobile entertainment and has been active in the mobile entertainment space for the past seven years. Prior to that he had a successful career in the entertainment industry, co-founding the pioneering Zomba group of companies and Jive Records, as well as YourMobile/Moviso (now InfoSpace Mobile). He currently advises on mobile strategy for major entertainment and content companies. He is credited with coining the new science of "mociology" (the sociology of mobile lifestyles) and "mocio-economics" (the underlying economics that drives the fast emergence of mobile entertainment revenues and economics).
