Chrysler Celebrates its 11th Annual 'Spirit in the Words' Poetry Program During the National Association of Black Journalists' 30th Anniversary
* Lead Chrysler Group designer, Ralph Gilles, serves as a judge
WHAT: Chrysler Group's "Spirit in the Words" poetry program creates a venue in which African-American journalists will recite their written words. This program will be celebrated during the 30th anniversary of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) conference in Atlanta. Ten finalists will perform their work for a chance to win up to $5,000 in prizes.
WHO: More than 500 journalists from around the nation are expected to attend the event along with film and television actress Shari Headley, who will serve as emcee, a host of judges, including:
* Ralph Gilles, Chrysler Group Director of Truck Exterior/Interior Design Studio
* Greg Morrison, News Director, Black Family Channel
* Lynn Norment, Managing Editor, Ebony Magazine
* Mira Lowe, News Editor, Newsday
* Marcus Amick, Editor, Michigan Chronicle
In addition to the poetry program, Detroit Black Bottom Collective band will perform their soul, hip-hop, spoken-word style of music. Their sound mashes raw urban energy with the roots of rock.
