Write On Point Magazine - Going From Strength To Strength
Born and bred in South East London England, Write On Points founder/editor-in-chief Janice Spence, decided to set up her own online venture after contributing to several online / print publications, which included Don Diva Magazine UK, Black Filmmaker, and US online publication Soundslam. Since setting the Write On Point wheels in motion Janice hasnt looked back and now dedicates her time to ensuring that the magazine features exclusive interviews with some of todays rising Hip Hop talent, and is a place for unsigned artists to shine also.
When asked about her reasons for featuring interviews with a multitude of unsigned talent she says
"There are a lot of talented artists out there making good music, but the majority of them are still not signed to major labels. Due to these circumstances some online publications overlook these artists and show little or no interest in giving them any media coverage. They are only interested in featuring well known million selling signed acts, who in some cases have no talent whatsoever, and have nothing particularly new or interesting to tell us. If I think an act/artist has got what it takes to succeed musically, then Iam going to give them the opportunity to promote themselves and their music to the fullest, regardless of their status within the music industry. Also these artists often give the best interviews because they are hungry, full of life and eager to talk about themselves."
In the following months Write On Point also aims to feature interviews with artists that are already household names in the US, but have not promoted themselves or their music on an international scale. On this subject Janice says, "There are artists that have sold millions in the US and have huge followings, but to my knowledge they have never travelled outside of America, never promoted their music outside of America, and never conducted interviews with any UK publications. Its as if no other territory exists! We watch them here on MTV Base and have to rely on US publications for interviews with these artists. I want Write On Point to be the first UK publication that they give an exclusive interview to and hopefully through us this will open them up to a wider audience."
The magazine currently features interviews with Lil Eazy E, Loon, Crooked I, Lifestyle, Paul Wall, Grafh, Black Child, Jae Millz, SAS, Genesis Elijah, amongst others.
Write On Point is an informative and dynamic online publication, dedicated to giving its visitors up to date news and information, from within the world of black entertainment on both sides of the Atlantic. It also aims to give maximum exposure to up-coming homegrown UK talent, and information on showcases / events taking place throughout the year.
