Buckshot & 9th Wonder Release Highly-Anticipated Collaborative LP, Chemistry, on 7-12-05

April 29th, 2005

Buckshot & 9th Wonder Release Highly-Anticipated Collaborative LP, Chemistry, on
Bucktown, USA--- The story behind Buckshot and 9th Wonders collaborative union lends credence to the title they selected to matter-of-factly summarize the merging of their vast talents; simply put, it was Chemistry. What was supposed to be a short visit for Buckshot to 9th Wonders secretive recording enclave in North Carolina, ended up resulting in one of the most highly-anticipated Hiphop LPs of 2005, as Buckshot laments We actually came down to work with 9th on Sean Price and Smif N Wessons LPs; we realized they needed some dope tracks and I felt like 9th Wonder was the man to go to. The sessions were going so well with Sean and Smif N Wesson that I was blessed to get on a track as well. The vibe was so good that the next day we did another joint and then another and then another. Our chemistry was so good, that it just became Chemistry.

If your familiar with Hiphop you know the name Buckshot; the frontman for the Boot Camp Click, the entrepreneur behind the branding of Duck Down Records name on the Hiphop populous and of course for being the lead emcee from Black Moon; who can forget the classics from 1993 Enta Da Stage (How Many Mcs.., Who Got The Props and Buck Em Down), or 2003 Total Eclipse (Stay Real, Rush and How We Do It) which ushered in a new era for Black Moon as it found the entire outfit reunited. Buckshots personal growth (which included working with and being a part of 2Pacs One Nation Project) and unrelenting lyrical skills have paved the way for a career that now spans over a decade; which begins anew with Chemistry.

After exploding onto the Hiphop scene with there critically acclaimed 2003 debut, The Listening, Little Brother has quickly become a fan favorite and recently inked a major label deal with Atlantic Records. The man behind their ascent, 9th Wonder, has also seen his star rise, as over the course of two-years, he has become one of the most sought after producers in the Urban music landscape; including his remixes of Nas Gods Sun (which he appropriately re-dubbed Gods Stepson) and Jay-Zs The Black Album (re-titled Black Is Back), both of which attained cult-status with fans and ushered in a new trend of remixing that would see countless producers follow in his wake. In addition, 9th Wonder has lent production too Jay-Zs The Black Album, De La Souls The Grind Date, Destiny Childs Destiny Fullfilled, Memphis Bleeks 534, Masta Aces A Long Hot Summer, Murs 3:16 The 9th Edition, Jean Graes This Week, Big Poohs Sleepers and worked with artists like Kanye West, Pete Rock and of course his Justus League cohorts.

If you yearn for the days when Hiphop reflected true musicality and lyrical integrity look no further then Buckshot and 9th Wonders Chemistry.

Your Musics Been Played, Now Make Sure You Get Paid

FCM Entertainment

(April 20, 2005) Last year the recording industry was shaken to its core when Attorney General Eliot Spitzers two-year investigation found that many artists and writers were not being paid the royalties owed to them by some of Americas top record labels. With more than $50 million in unclaimed royalties being owed to music writers and artists in the recording industry, companies such as Flaherty Consulting & Management, LLC (FCM) are right on time.

The companys creator, Delvida Flaherty, Esq., has worked in the entertainment industry for over 10 years. Working in both creative and business capacities within the music industry has enabled her to appreciate all aspects of the business. Collecting mechanical royalties has been the fastest growing component of our business in the past year. There are millions of dollars in unpaid royalties being held by record labels. And we make it our business to help writers and artists receive what is due to them. Flaherty says.

FCM helps writers resolve split disputes, complete correct song split forms, and maintains current contact information on clients; the most frequent reasons for writers and artists to not receive royalties. According to the settlement, record labels need to either pay out the $50 million or the money will be turned over to the state. We want to catch our clients money before that happens, says Flaherty.

Flahertys honest, up-front business management style has led her to be the go to girl for all things A&R. Artists, indie record labels, major labels, known and unknown music producers alike seek her advice. Many clients such as Disturbing Tha Peace (Ludacris), Black Market Entertainment, (The East Side Boys, Trillville, and Lil Scrappy), Lil Jon Productions, Trak Starz Recordings and Productions (Chingy), So So Def Recordings, and Mason Betha Entertainment trust in and benefit from their guidance.

Flaherty developed the A&R Administration Workbook designed to assist independent labels and production companies through the administrative recording process. By using the forms contained in the workbook, companies will have a step-by-step guide to running a highly proficient and economically sound A&R Administration Department.

FCM always goes above and beyond for their customers working specifically toward each individual clients needs. At a time when more and more artists and producers are starting their own labels, FCM supplies the business know-how while letting the artist or producer remain creative. Flaherty says, Our mission is not just to see our clients get rich, but to teach them how to maintain wealth.

Bow Wow Puts Finishing Touches on 'Let Me Hold You,' Featuring #1 Chart-Topper Omarion

New Bow Wow Track, Produced by Jermaine Dupri, Slated as First Single From Eagerly-Awaited New Album, Wanted

NEW YORK, April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Rap icon Bow Wow has recently finished work on "Let Me Hold You," the first single from Wanted, the eagerly-awaited successor to Bow Wow's 2003 bestselling Unleashed.

Produced by superstar hitmaker Jermaine Dupri, "Let Me Hold You" is a collaboration with Bow Wow's fellow hip-hop heartthrob Omarion, whose first solo album, O (Sony Urban Music / Epic), debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 at the beginning of March 2005.

Fans can check out Bow Wow, Omarion and Jermaine Dupri in the studio cutting the smash hit "Let Me Hold You" via an exclusive online video at http://www.bowwowwanted.com/ .

Bow Wow and Omarion will join forces on the upcoming "Scream Tour IV Presents: The Heart Throb Tour," sure to be yet another arena-packed chapter in the history of the "Scream Tour" series (details TBA).

2005 is shaping up to be a very big year for Bow Wow with his hotly-anticipated new album, Wanted, slated for release in early July.

Come this fall, Bow Wow is scheduled to light up both the big screen and small with a starring role in the feature film, "Roll Bounce," a teenage skater-dramedy set in the late 1970s, and his very own television sitcom, "Bow," scheduled to air on the WB.

Bow Wow first burst on the scene back in 2000 -- under the wing of super producer Jermaine Dupri -- with his debut album, Beware of Dog, which went on to sell more than three million copies while solidifying his status as an authentic hip-hop heartthrob.

Bow Wow took his brand of rap to the next level with 2001's Doggy Bag, hitting the road in support of his multi-platinum sophomore CD with the sold-out "Scream Tour II," wowing fans all over the country with hits like "Take Ya Home" and "Thank You."

Bow Wow's undeniable star power led to starring roles in the box office triumph "Like Mike" (one of the 50 Top-Grossing films of 2002) and the subsequent hits "All About The Benjamins" (2002) and "Johnson Family Vacation" (2004).

With his third album, 2003's Unleashed, Bow Wow became more directly involved with writing and producing his music, creating a collection directly from the heart, conveying a more personal overview of life from Bow Wow's perspective.

He is the youngest musician to open the Grammy Awards, is the first "kid" to be included in Vanity Fair's prestigious annual music issue (October 2001), and entered the "The Guinness Book of World Records" as the youngest solo rapper to hit #1 on the U.S. charts.

Having recently turned 18, with several hit singles, platinum-plus albums, sold-out tours, starring roles in hit films, and a place in "The Guinness Book of World Records" already on his resume, Bow Wow continues to prove that he's the 100% real deal with the indisputable goods: a bona fide teen superstar blessed with burgeoning talent, tenacity, and a deep connection to his audience.

Omarion's career is currently ablaze with a # 1 chart topping album, a radio favorite single, "O," and his latest smoking hot single release, "Touch." The music video for "Touch" has already debuted on BET 106 & Park and is following in the large footsteps of "O."

Born and raised in Inglewood, California, Omarion rose to fame while still a teen as a member of the groundbreaking urban "boy band" B2K. His soulful vocals and undeniable charisma helped B2K score a hit with the group's very first single, "Uh Huh," in 2001; achieve gold status with the group's self- titled debut album in 2002; and go RIAA platinum with the group's best-selling sophomore outing, Pandemonium! in 2003.

Omarion's undeniable mediageniality has led to numerous television guest appearances including "Punk'd," "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," and "Soul Train." In addition to his musical performances, Omarion has acted on the big screen with key roles in "You Got Served" and "Fat Albert." Currently in production, Omarion's latest film venture, "The House," is an innovative horror film directed by Chris Stokes.

A solid collaboration between two bona-fide superstar performers, "Let Me Hold You" is as hip as it is infectious. The music video for "Let Me Hold You," directed by Grammy award winner Bryan Barber, is destined to place Bow back on his throne as the self proclaimed "King of '106 & Park.'" A nicely crafted song that's a great fit for ladies and the fellas who love them, "Let Me Hold You" promises to be the jam of the summer.

Scion Makes Inroads into Music with daKAH Hip Hop Orchestra

Apr 26, 2005 New York, NY - Toyota Motor's Scion brand is making inroads into independent hip hop with a new record label, Scion A/V. The label debuted its first act, Los Angeles' daKAH Hip Hop Orchestra, at a semi-exclusives showcase at this year's SXSW music festival. "By partnering with respected companies relevant to the lives of urban youth, and event promoters and radio DJs, we want to uncover a full spectrum of up-and-coming hip-hop talent from flourishing scenes everywhere, hopefully helping to advance some careers along the way," says Jeri Yoshizu, Scion Sales Promotions Manager.

Scion executives have stated that the label's involvement with daKAH is purely one of support for an independent ensemble. In fact, Scion A/V's mission is not to cater to consumers but rather to underground artists, and Toyota does not profit from the label's releases. "We are enabling unsigned artists to get their feet up," Scion sales promotion director, Jeri Yoshizu, stated.

Featuring over 65 musicians led by composer Double G, daKAH Hip Hop Orchestra is one of Los Angeles' most unique musical experiences. Having started as a 25 piece ensemble in 1999, word soon spread and both the band and its following started to grow. Snoop and 50 Help the Gaming Industry Stake Its Claim As the Dominant Media Outlet

Apr 26, 2005 New York, NY - On April 14th The Game Initiative sponsored the first 'Advertising In Games Forum' in New York City. The Forum outlined the new concept of in-game advertising or what one expert called 'digital sniping.' This new marketing strategy will place real posters, snipes and billboards in some of the most popular video game titles like '25 to Life', 'Splinter Cell,' and more. It's the next phase in advertising with placement in video games that can now be both 'static' and 'dynamic.' Static ads will hold permanent real estate in games while the dynamic ads will be able to be swapped in and out on a revolving basis. With Hip Hop's trendsetting role and the infusion of new games catering to the hip hop youth market, this new technology will surely become increasingly popular.

The gaming industry has exploded over the past few years and has surpassed cable, print and broadcast media in terms of attracting the leisure time 18-34 year old males. Mitchell Davis, CEO of Massive, a new advertising agency that has put together the first video game advertising network, was quoted as saying that, "Gamers logged in over 30 billion hours in 2004 (over 90% being 18-34 year old males) with 30% of all broadband traffic being driven by the gaming industry." Additionally males, 18 to 34, on average watch 27 minutes of television during primetime while averaging 2 hours of video gameplay per day. Even with these staggering numbers, the majority of movie studios, record labels, and corporate entities still spend close to 90% of their marketing budget in traditional outlets such as print, radio and TV. But with Hip-Hop's entrepreneurial influence and penchant for cross marketing, that is about to change.

Artists like Snoop and 50 Cent have entered the gaming world and brought with them their entrepreneurial spirit and penchant for cross marketing properties across different fields. 'Bulletproof's' GTA type story line allows for numerous product placement opportunities for the many products 50 has relationships with. Tomas Melian, VP of Integrated Marketing, Vivendi Universal was shocked that when he got the game from the developers there was already space reserved for Ecko, Vitamin Water and Reebok. A 50 fan would expect nothing less though.

What is happening is that video game developers and publishers are realizing that product placements can help cover their production costs. Record labels, film companies, and clothing companies are simultaneously becoming aware that these games offer them access to millions of impressions for a fraction of the cost of buying traditional mass media. "MTV, BET, Hot 97 and all the rest by definition have limited space for me to get one of my artists some love," added one industry executive, "plus I have no idea if that BDS spin on Monday afternoon hit my key demo. I like the idea of advertising in the games because I know kids will be paying attention to my poster or listening to my tracks. Especially if in '25 to Life' you are running from the cops and my billboard is the landmark for the safehouse."

In addition to '25 to Life' and 'Bulletproof,' several titles including Marc Ecko's 'Getting Up', Snoop's 'Fear and Respect,' are Hip Hop based games that will look to take advantage of this new marketing trend.

Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda Is Set to Debut Hip-Hop Side Project Fort Minor

Fort Minor's Debut, "The Rising Tied," Features Common, Black Thought, John Legend, and Other Special Guests

Jay-Z Serves as the Album's Executive Producer

LOS ANGELES, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 04/26/2005 -- Multi-talented, multi-instrumentalist Mike Shinoda will be releasing his highly anticipated side project Fort Minor later this summer. Shinoda, the producer and beat-maker behind Jay-Z's and Linkin Park's "Collision Course," sees Fort Minor as an extension of who he is as a musician, producer and visual artist: "I did nothing but hip-hop before Linkin Park started, and haven't gotten a chance to get back to those roots until now. I started casually working on this project a year ago, and it felt like a floodgate opened -- I couldn't stop writing. Once I started playing the songs for people, everyone kept telling me, 'You need to make an album out of this!'"

And so he did. Titled "The Rising Tied," the album is set for a late summer 2005 release on Machine Shop Recordings/Warner Bros. Records. Although produced entirely by Shinoda, Fort Minor's debut is the product of extensive collaboration. For starters, the Linkin Park MC enlisted the guidance of hip-hop giant Jay-Z. As the album's executive producer, Jay-Z is helping to oversee the album's creation. "We have such a great working relationship, having his opinion has been invaluable for me throughout the process," shares Shinoda. "Jay's got a great way of making suggestions while letting the artist keep their creative control and momentum."

Additional backing comes from a strong collective of vocal contributors. "In developing this project, I've been fortunate to be able to work exclusively with friends -- other artists whose talent I respect and who share [with me] a creative vision," says Shinoda. One of the first MCs he spoke with was Common: "I remember asking him about doing a song on the record -- I started playing what I had done so far, and after every track, he said, 'I want to be on that one!'" The excitement about the resulting collaborations ultimately inspired the album's title. Shinoda adds, "From the well-known artists on the album, like Black Thought and John Legend, to the up-and-comers, everyone is performing at the very top level. They are all so hungry and excited for what the future brings with this album. That's why I decided to name the record 'The Rising Tied.'"

The 14-track effort, currently being completed in Los Angeles, pairs this lyrical diversity with innovative instrumentation. "I wanted to make sure this album has a unique identity," explains Shinoda. "Part of that identity is an organic sound -- less keyboard, more instruments." To that end, Shinoda wrote and played virtually every note on the album, giving it a thick, rhythmic sound that's been driving the music from day one.

Having worked on the album for almost a year, Shinoda is eager to unleash the results. "My band-mates [in Linkin Park] have encouraged me to share this music with the world," says Shinoda. "And now that the record is almost finished, I can't wait."

Outspoken: An Open Mic Nite at Five Spot in Philly

PHILADELPHIA, April 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The hottest underground and up-and- coming artists in the Hip-Hop scene, security officers, and students from the campuses they guard will be part of Outspoken, an Open Mic Nite at the Five Spot in Philadelphia Sunday, May 1 from 9 p.m. to midnight. Lady Alma will host the event and special guests like Mums of HBO's Oz, Def Poetry Jam and Chappelle's Show are scheduled to perform as well.

Outspoken is a partnership with First Alert, a campaign by security officers in Philadelphia to use different art forms to bring attention to the lack of good jobs available to inner city residents and companies which exploit workers from poor neighborhoods.

Security, once considered a job for ex-police or ex-military, nowadays is a job many African Americans with high school diplomas are forced to take because of high unemployment in black neighborhoods. The jobs security companies provide don't give officers enough to live on, don't offer affordable health insurance, or a way for officers to get ahead. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual pay for security officers is $18,600, which is below the federal poverty line.

Officers are saying enough is enough and coming together to fight for justice. Officers who guard Temple University, Community College of Philadelphia and the University Of Pennsylvania are uniting to fight for raises and affordable health benefits. If officers are successful in pushing security companies to do what's right for the community, millions of dollars could flow into poor neighborhoods. If officers were provided with salaries and benefits similar to what unionized janitors earn, $28.7 million could flow into North Philly neighborhoods.

The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is helping bring officers together in Philadelphia and five other cities -- Boston, New York City, Washington, D.C., Seattle, and Los Angeles. SEIU, the nation's largest union with a membership of 1.8 million, is a union of nurses aides, child care workers, janitors, and personal aides.

Outspoken is being produced by the Movement and Groove Gumbo, a creative arts organization based in Washington, D.C. OKAYPLAYA is a promotional partner.

WHAT: OPEN MIC NIGHT, MAY 1st 9 p.m. to 12 midnight

HOST: Lady Alma, "the heart and soul of Philadelphia's soul scene" Lady Alma's mother is a union member with SEIU. Her band will keep the energy high.

PEFORMERS: Mums of HBO's Oz, Def Poetry Jam and the Chappelle's Show, security officers, students from campuses that officers guard, community members

Akon Finds It's 'Lonely' at the Top

'Lonely' #5 Two Weeks in a Row on Hot 100 Singles Chart in U.S.

'Trouble' Ranks #2 on European Albums Chart

NEW YORK, April 26 /PRNewswire/ -- SRC artist Akon continues his unprecedented global success both here and abroad with his chart-topping hit, "Lonely," from his platinum-certified debut album Trouble. Both the song and album have become success stories in the U.S. and internationally, dominating radio airplay and sales charts: "Lonely" is currently #5 on Billboard's "Hot 100 Singles" chart and is also #5 in Japan; Impressively, Akon's album continues to rise on the European Albums chart making a remarkable jump from #22 to #11 in just one week, and climbs into the Top 20 this week on the domestic albums chart.

Such hit-making prowess has given the versatile singer/songwriter a well earned reputation as one of the music world's more formidable new talents, as Akon finds himself one of the most in-demand rising stars abroad with sold-out performances confirmed in Norway, Spain, Germany, France, and the UK. The Senegalese sing/songwriter will also perform in parents' homeland, Senegal for two sold-out shows on June 6th and 7th.

Akon's previous single, the mesmerizing "Locked Up," ignited his incredible momentum, becoming a Top 5 single in France and the UK, and continues to maintain a consistent Top 10 status throughout Europe. The inaugural single from the critically acclaimed Trouble also made a huge splash here in the States, establishing him as a credible singer in the hip-hop community.

Akon's roots in music can be traced back to his father, the legendary percussionist and jazz musician Mor Thiam. Exposed to many forms of music at an early age, Akon gravitated towards hip-hop as a teen-ager, but he is a true musician who refuses to be limited. The charismatic performer has collaborated with a diverse range of artists that include: Baby Bash, Jesse McCartney, Brian McKnight, Styles P and Bobby Vinton- whose "Mr. Lonely" inspired Akon's current hit "Lonely."

Libertad Music Festival 2005 Uniting the Diverse Sounds of the Latin Hip Hop Movement

Fat Joe at Helm as Executive Producer; Aims to Build a Presence for Emerging Latino Artists

NEW YORK, April 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Catalyst Entertainment, (CE), an entertainment marketing firm specializing in creating original properties that target multicultural and youth consumers, in conjunction with platinum recording artist Fat Joe, announced the founding of the Libertad Music Festival 2005, the first national music tour that unites Latin Hip Hop artists from different genres, and tours them together across the nation.

Libertad 2005 will launch this summer in New York, and then tour to Miami, Los Angeles and Chicago. As an annual concert series, next year Libertad will extend its reach to 10-12 markets nationally and 3-5 internationally.

Celebrated Hip Hop artist Fat Joe co-founded the concept with CE in an effort to help emerging Latino artists further develop a fan base. Fat Joe's presence will be felt throughout the tour: he will ensure that the series truly reflects the scope of Latin Hip Hop sounds from across the country, and he may even hop on stage.

Consumer Brands Supporting the Movement

Libertad 2005 will not only promote up-and-coming Latin Hip Hop artists, but will also help consumer brands connect further with Latino youth. With more than 16 million Hispanics between the ages of 12-34 and an anticipated swell by 2020 to 22 million, this demographic could potentially change the positioning of brand leaders in the future, as the preferences and choices of Hispanics shift from the minority to the majority.

"As the Hispanic market evolves, brands are looking for a way to connect with Latino youth through a medium that is relevant and evokes passion," said Girard Hunt, Vice President of Marketing with Catalyst. "In the Latino culture, music is an intrinsic part of life. And to second and third generation Hispanics who listen to popular American music and relate to the sounds of Latin rhythms, the Latin Hip Hop movement is their home."

The Libertad Music Festival marks only the beginning of the partnership between CE and Fat Joe, which aims to bring many relevant and unique Latin music properties and platforms to mainstream America.

Fat Joe's 6th solo album, "All Or Nothing" will be released June 14th on Terror Squad/Atlantic Records. The first single, "Get It Poppin'" features Nelly and the video is being directed by Chris Robinson.

The Search for Americas African Idol is On!!

(Atlanta, Georgia) (May 01, 2005)- C.C. Ryder,
Executive Director of Americas African Idol, LLC,
proudly announces the launch of the reality television
show, Americas African Idol to begin airing in
October 2005. Auditions for talent will begin in
August 2005 beginning in Atlanta, Georgia and
continuing in thirty-one (31) additional cities across
the United States. Pre-registration begins
immediately

States Mr. Ryder, After reviewing reality shows being
broadcast on television, I saw African-American talent
not only being neglected but also somewhat mistreated.
African-American music has three (3) separate
categories-Hip-Hop, Gospel, and Rhythm & Blues-with
divisions for both single artists and groups. The
great thing is that the two (2) groups will not
compete against each other! I feel that not giving
each of these groups their own competition put
potential recording artists at an unfair advantage in
seeking to further their career-thus, after two (2)
years of laying the foundation, I am proud to now
announce the launching of Americas African Idol !
I am looking forward to seeing the multitude of talent
being showcased on a fair basis.

In additional to the three (3) categories, there will
also be a Youth Division for talent ages eight (8)
years to seventeen (17) years in order for them to
compete against their peers.

All winners in each city, region, and finals receive
cash prizes with the ultimate Americas African Idol
receiving not only a cash prize of $5000.00 and a
record recording contract, but also an expense paid
trip for two (2) to Africa.

Persons wishing to work with the show as Community
Talent Partners or as Celebrity Judges are urged to

The Source Magazine Hit With Employment Discrimination Claims By Former Top Women, announces Thompson Wigdor & Gilly LLP

[Earlier release posted for reference at ProHipHop]

Monday April 11, 11:26 am ET
- Former Editor-in-Chief and Vice President Accuse Owners of The Source of Subjecting Women to Gender Discrimination, Sexual Harassment and RetaliationEEOC Charges Filed on Behalf of All Current and Former Female Employees

NEW YORK, April 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Earlier today, two of the highest-ranking former female executives of The Source magazine, the self-proclaimed "Bible of Hip Hop," filed charges of discrimination with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission accusing co-owners David Mays, the Chief Executive Officer, and Raymond "Benzino" Scott, the Chief Brand Executive, of committing gender discrimination, sexual harassment and unlawful retaliation against women at the Company.

The charges were filed by Kimberly Osorio, who was the first female Editor-in-Chief of The Source, and Michelle Joyce, who was the Vice President of Marketing. According to the charges, female employees were consistently discriminated against on the basis of their gender in favor of male employees, particularly with respect to hiring, promotions, compensation and benefits, working hours and discipline. The charges also allege that:

* Raymond "Benzino" Scott has taken virtually complete control over The
Source from David Mays, and has placed many of his male associates from
Boston on the payroll who performed no meaningful work and/or did not
adhere to the same rules, policies and procedures that all female
employees were required to follow.

* Scott and Mays have fired or forced out of the Company without cause
many competent, dedicated and hardworking female employees and have
replaced them with men.

* David Mays yelled and cursed at female executives at The Source, whereas
he would not treat or talk to comparable male employees in such a
manner.

* Scott and Mays allowed another male employee to openly utter profanities
at Ms. Osorio, degrade her and threaten her with physical violence
without being punished for his actions.

* Women at The Source were repeatedly subjected to degrading acts of
sexual harassment.

* The sexual harassment was so severe and pervasive that the former
Managing Editor at The Source would often hide in her office and avoid
walking through the corridors out of fear of being sexually harassed.

* The Source engaged in a gender-based smear campaign against Hot 97 radio
personality and recording artist Angie Martinez.

"After dedicating five years to The Source, I could no longer endure the blatant gender discrimination and harassment so I spoke up, but it only hurt the situation because I was fired shortly thereafter. Unfortunately, discrimination and harassment in the workplace is very common and now I must speak out for all women who have been victims of this same type of treatment," said Ms. Osorio. "I chose to take a stand for women of the Hip Hop generation and for all women who quietly endure such treatment for fear of retaliation and for those women who have suffered in silence and quietly surrendered," said Ms. Joyce.

"Ms. Osorio and Ms. Joyce have shown extraordinary courage in coming forward, and we will fully vindicate their rights at trial," said Kenneth P. Thompson, their attorney and a former Federal Prosecutor who prosecuted the Abner Louima federal civil rights case. "All women should be treated fairly and with the utmost respect whether they are in the world of Hip Hop or not and we will prove that in this case," said Thompson.

According to the charges, both Ms. Osorio and Ms. Joyce complained about the discriminatory treatment against women at The Source, all to no avail. Instead of taking prompt action to end the discrimination, they allege that Messrs. Scott and Mays unlawfully terminated them despite their outstanding work performance. In fact, Ms. Osorio alleges that she was fired shortly after she refused to give in to Scott's and Mays' repeated demands that she rescind an email that she sent to Human Resources complaining about the unlawful conduct.
