SPEED Channel Renews Lifestyle Shows Unique Whips, Build or Bust

Pinks, Texas Hardtails Debut Next Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 22, 2005--SPEED Channel VP of Programming Robert Ecker announced today the network has renewed both Unique Whips and Build or Bust for second seasons.

Unique Whips (Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET), shot on location at the New York celebrity car customizing shop of Will Castro, featured season-one appearances by A-list athletes and entertainers, including tennis great Jennifer Capriati, NY Yankees sluggers Jason Giambi and Ruben Sierra, NBA stars Carmelo Anthony, Marcus Camby and Jermaine O'Neal, NFL standouts Lavar Arrington and Byron Leftwich and hip-hop artists Jadakiss and Fat Joe.

The 12 new Unique Whips episodes planned for season two will give viewers a look at even more stars and their Unique cars, with plans to include appearances by entertainers Jessica Simpson, Pamela Anderson and Busta Rhymes and NBA standout Vince Carter.

Build or Bust, created and produced by A Band Apart's Scott Gillen, also was given the green light on 11 new episodes to begin next spring. The one-hour show takes an average person with an interest in designing and building his or her own motorcycle, matches them up with a renowned master builder and gives them 30 days to build a bike from the ground up. If the job is completed to the master builder's satisfaction within the allotted time, they get to keep the bike. If not, they walk away bruised and empty-handed.

Beginning June 28, Build or Bust moves to Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET, strategically positioning it with SPEED Channel's other motorcycle enthusiast fare, including 2 Wheel Tuesday (7:30 p.m. ET), American Thunder (8 p.m. ET) and the first season of Texas Hardtails (8:30 p.m. ET).

Showtime Heats Up In July With Special Event Programming Every Saturday Night

MTV Networks Music Services to Offer Unprecedented Global Platform for Upcoming Live 8 Concerts

MTV & VH1 Are Exclusive LIVE U.S. Television Partners for Live 8's 'The Long Walk To Justice' Airing July 2 from 12-8pm ET/9am-5pm PT

LONDON and NEW YORK, June 22 /PRNewswire/ -- In an unprecedented global music initiative, MTV Networks services around the world will air customized programming from the upcoming Live 8 concerts being held in multiple international venues on July 2nd, potentially reaching a world-wide audience of more than 1 billion people.

Eagle Rock Entertainment to Represent Death Row Records Outside North America and Canada

"Tupac Shakur: Live at the House of Blues" to Be Released Worldwide in September on DVD, CD and UMD

LONDON and NEW YORK, NY -- (Market Wire - Jun 22, 2005) --  Eagle Rock Entertainment is pleased to announce an agreement with Death Row Records to represent its audio catalogue for the world outside North America and Canada from April 1, 2006, onwards. In a separate deal, Eagle Rock also announces that it has acquired worldwide rights from Death Row for "Tupac Shakur: Live at the House of Blues," which is now scheduled for September 2005 release in North America, Europe and other territories on DVD, CD and UMD. (The UMD format plays on the Sony PlayStation Portable game device.)

Death Row Records was founded by Suge Knight in 1991 and fast became the biggest and most influential hip-hop label of the '90s with releases such as Dr. Dre's solo album "The Chronic," Snoop Doggy Dogg's "Doggystyle" and Tupac Shakur's "All Eyez On Me."

The first fruits of the relationship with Death Row Records will be the simultaneous DVD/CD/UMD release of the never-before-seen, uncensored "Tupac Shakur: Live at the House of Blues," scheduled for a September 2005 worldwide release on Eagle Vision. The show, which took place in Los Angeles on July 4, 1996, also features guest appearances by artists including Snoop Dogg and the Outlawz. The video of the performance is believed to be the last available of Shakur before his death from gunshot wounds later that year. The DVD will also include several of Shakur's music videos as well as an exclusive interview with Knight.

Starz InBlack Launches First Original Stand-Up Comedy Show

Raw and edgy, "1st Amendment Stand-Up" will be shot before a live audience at the Eleven50 Club in Atlanta, Ga. Taping is scheduled for Tuesday, June 28th through Thursday, June 30th.

"Hustle & Flow" Set to Heat Up Summer: Sizzling Hip-Hop Soundtrack Due July 12th

The Paramount Classic/MTV Films release is due in theatres across North America on July 13th.

The summer's hottest hip-hop collection, the "HUSTLE & FLOW" soundtrack features an extraordinary line-up of the coolest hip-hop and urban artists, including T.I. & P$C, Juvenile, Trina, Mike Jones, Paul Wall, Boyz N Da Hood, Webbie, 8Ball & MJG, Lil Scrappy, Trillville, and many others. BET Premieres HIV/AIDS Testing Special Featuring Hip Hop Diva Ciara and Comedienne Mo'Nique

WASHINGTON, June 20 /PRNewswire/ -- On Sunday, June 26 at 3:00 pm ET/PT, BET will premiere OPEN MIC: MY THING, an hour-long special program produced as part of Rap-It-Up, the network's award-winning HIV/AIDS public education partnership with the Kaiser Family Foundation.

Co-hosted by Mad Linx of BET's RAP CITY and hip hop diva Ciara, and also featuring actress/comedian Mo'Nique and R&B singer-turned-actress Eve, the show spans the U.S. for stories about how young people are taking charge to get the word out about HIV/AIDS and the importance of testing. The show debuts on the eve of National HIV Testing Day (June 27).

Four young men demystify HIV testing by taking viewers along as they get tested at T.H.E. Clinic in Los Angeles. In Nashville, the show takes a look at the growing impact of HIV on young women. At Langston University in Oklahoma, the show looks at how the school has made testing a campus-wide priority. And, in Detroit, the show checks in with a young HIV positive man from last year's program about his recent appearance on the UPN network sitcom Eve to get out the word on testing.

Lil' E, the son of late rapper Eazy E, also speaks about his father's death 10 years ago as a result of AIDS and the importance of sharing his personal experience. AIDS is a leading cause of death for African Americans, who have been disproportionately impacted by HIV.

Former Vice President Walter Mondale to Address Asian American Journalists Association Convention August 17-20

Mondale will address the 17th annual national convention of the Asian American Journalists Association, to be held Aug. 17-20 at the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis. The convention, hosted by AAJA's Minneapolis chapter and chaired by Star Tribune television critic Neal Justin, will also feature concerts by rapper and Ruff Ryders recording artist Jin and fusion/new age keyboard player Keiko Matsui. The Twin Cities community will be welcomed at a special town hall meeting examining the relationship between Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, justice and the media.

Mondale to Address Convention Luncheon

Former U.S. Vice President Walter F. Mondale has a record of public service that spans more than 40 years. In addition to his work in the White House, Mondale has been a U.S. ambassador to Japan, a U.S. senator and the Minnesota attorney general. He is now the senior counsel with the Minneapolis-based Dorsey & Whitney LLP law firm, and serves as chair of the firm's Asian Law Practice Group, which focuses on representing U.S. and Asian clients.

As Ambassador to Japan from August 1993 to December 1996, Mondale helped to negotiate several U.S.-Japan security agreements, including a resolution to the controversy about the U.S. military presence in Okinawa. He also helped negotiate numerous trade agreements between the U.S. and Japan, and he promoted the expansion of educational exchanges between the two nations. In addition, Mondale attended the annual APEC (Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation) summit meetings in Seattle, Jakarta, Osaka and Manila.

In 1998, Mondale also served as former President Clinton's special envoy, traveling to meet with Indonesia's president regarding that country's economic reforms.

Community Town Hall on Asian American Pacific Islanders, Justice and the Media

A town hall meeting on Aug. 18 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. will allow community members, leaders and journalists to examine the relationship between Asian American Pacific Islanders, justice and the media.

Several high-profile stories involving AAPIs have made national headlines. An anonymous tip to Homeland Security includes claims of Chinese "dirty nuclear bomber terrorists" entering Boston. Wire services immediately identify four suspects and post artist renderings of them and the alert becomes national headline news; although the tip later proves to be hoax, no apologies are offered to the accused or those who might have been subject to their "profile." A Hmong man is involved in a mass shooting in Minnesota and initial stories imply there is a link between the suspect's cultural heritage and the incident. A Muslim Army chaplain is arrested and charged with espionage and possibly treason, but is later released with all charges dropped.

There has been some perception that these cases are tried in the media. What are the hurdles to justice that AAPIs face? Is there a presumption of guilt when AAPIs are accused of certain crimes? How has the Patriot Act and the War on Terrorism affected AAPIs -- and what does the news media need to know to ensure fair and balanced coverage of the increasing numbers of such cases?

Des Moines Register columnist Rekha Basu will moderate a panel that includes: Minnesota State Senator Mee Moua, former U.S. Army Chaplain Capt. James Yee, Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund co-founder Jaideep Singh and UC Davis School of Law professor Bill Ong Hing.

Additional discussion will be provided by Tram Nguyen, Colorlines Magazine executive editor and author of "We Are All Suspects Now: Untold Stories from Immigrant Communities?", and Steve Montiel, director of the Institute for Justice and Journalism, USC Annenberg School for Communication. Concerts by Rapper Jin and Keyboardist Keiko Matsui

Convention attendees will be treated to a free concert on Aug. 17 at 10 p.m. by hip-hop artist Jin Au-Yeung, the first Asian American rapper to release a major-label record. Jin's new CD, The Rest is History, challenges negative images of people of Chinese heritage in American culture. New York-based Jin won fame thanks to a lengthy and undefeated run on 106 & Park's "Freestyle Fridays" on BET. His success on that show earned him a deal with the rap collective Ruff Ryders. In addition to two singles and a solo album, Jin played a role in the movie 2 Fast 2 Furious.

The concert venue, the famed First Avenue Club & 7th Street Entry, itself has a history dating back to 1937. It's best known as the club featured in Prince's 1984 film Purple Rain and has played host to U2, REM, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Run DMC and countless others.

Fusion/new age keyboard player Keiko Matsui will perform free for convention attendees only on Aug. 18 from 9 p.m. at the Dakota Jazz Club.
