Annansi Clothing Co. "Redefines African Style" with new music showcase

To celebrate the launch of its Summer 2005 collection, Annansi Clothing Co. will present Redefining African Style, a showcase of emerging African musicians.

New York, NY (PRWEB) July 2, 2005 -- To celebrate the launch of its Summer 2005 collection, Annansi Clothing Co. will present Redefining African Style, a showcase of emerging African musicians, July 9th at Lava Gina - World Music Lounge (116 Ave C between 7th & 8th Sts) in New York City. Hosted by MC Chosan (Sierra Leone) and featuring The Ambassadoz (Ghana), Sheba (Ethiopia), and the Artkitects, Redefining African Style is the first of a series of showcases which will create a platform for emerging African artists who are truly redefining African musical style for the masses.

Born in Sierra Leone and raised in the UK, Chosan is someone whose talent and unique perspective has helped him build a strong fan base under the radar. With the video for his song Ride on rotation on NYC's Video Music Box, and having been tapped by multi-platinum producer/rapper Kanye West to record additional vocals for his Hype Williams directed Diamonds from Sierra Leone video, Chosan is poised to take the music industry by storm.

Annansi Clothing Co. continues to push the boundaries of traditional African style by encouraging individual expression and definition particularly by those Africans who have traveled extensively or been raised overseas. Annansi Clothing Co.'s focus is on creating conversation pieces which can educate people on the different values and experiences that Africans use to define themselves. Already popularized by Senegalese-born singer Akon, and with customers from Sweden to South Africa, the Annansi Clothing Co. Summer 2005 collection contains numerous must own pieces.

Annansi is in the business of making Africa POP! says Creative Director and Owner G. Kofi Annan. We want everyone to experience our culture and appreciate what makes us unique. There is no better combination than that of fashion and music to serve as a platform for us to express ourselves to the world. Redefining African Style is sure not to disappoint attendees.

**About Annansi Clothing Co.**
Since 2003 Annansi Clothing Co., founded by Ghanaian-born G. Kofi Annan, has sought to create street wear that stylishly represents African icons, art, and culture. With rich color and bold designs featured premium quality garments, the collections reflect a refined urban style. Annansi Clothing Co. pays tribute to the people, places, and images that define Africa's individuality. "Afrique C'est Chic" - Africa is cool, fresh, and fashionable. http://www.annansiclothing.com

**Chosan was born in Sierra Leone, West Africa and moved to Canada and then to London where he first got involved with hip-hop culture. After a freestyle CD recorded in a friends bedroom won him an on-air performance at London's KISS FM, Chosan went on to do numerous shows and warm up for artists such as Busta Rhymes, Jadakiss and Dead Prez. After becoming dissatisfied with the representation of Hip-Hop in the UK, Chosan moved to the Bronx New York. Tragedy struck when he was hit by a truck and spent two months in the hospital and one year in physical therapy. Chosan later recorded his debut "The Beautiful Side of Misery" vol. 1 with money from the accident. Out of passion, struggle, determination and a love for hip-hop music Chosan still stands. http://www.silverstreetz.com

**The Ambassadoz, AKAN (born Franklyn Kwesi Effah) and M.O.A (born Kwame Andah), are a rare and captivating Ghanaian hip-hop group based in Philadelphia, PA USA. Their creation is hip-hop music that can range from hard-core to afro-funk, becoming hard to lock into a specific genre or category. This distinctive hybrid of sound has the ability to dazzle spectators with their 'switching spit' lingo (rapping in English, French, Twi and Pidgin) while commanding the credibility from the hip-hop elite. Their first independently produced album Travelwise hit the stores on the international market under the cdbaby indie imprint, and is enjoying international success. http://www.ambassadoz.com

**The Arkitects' Mik'el, Jersey, Pop, and Resident comprise an ever-evolving spectrum of talents ranging in the complementary lyrical styles of Mik'el and Jersey, the R&B styled melodic textures of Pop and a range of production styles courtesy of Mik'el, Pop and DJ Resident.

A&M Records Still Stands for Artists and Music

Storied Record Label Has Biggest Chart Week in Nineteen Years Under the Direction of President Ron Fair

SANTA MONICA, Calif., July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- For the first time in nearly twenty years, A&M Records accomplishes a double-double: two albums and two singles among Billboard's Top 10 sellers. On the album side, Grammy winners The Black Eyed Peas' massive Monkey Business moves up one notch to #4 while R&B newcomer Keyshia Cole's debut The Way It Is storms in at #6. The Black Eyed Peas global smash "Don't Phunk with My Heart" climbs to #4 on the Hot 100 singles chart and The Pussycat Dolls' infectious "Don't Cha" moves up to #10. These two tracks are also currently #1 and #2 on iTunes.

The last time A&M Records had a "double-double" was the week of May 31, 1986, when Janet Jackson's Control and the soundtrack to Pretty in Pink sat in the Top 10 album chart, accompanied by the singles "If You Leave" by Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark and Janet Jackson's "What Have You Done For Me Lately?"

"A&M has a legacy of success that's based on artist development and dynamic music," stated Doug Morris, Chairman & CEO of Universal Music Group. "And we are thrilled that Ron is building upon this legacy and taking the company to even greater heights."

"Ron has carried through on the promise he has made for A&M. His passion and commitment to his work and his artists is more than I could ever have hoped for," praised Jimmy Iovine, Chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M Records.

"I'm particularly proud of the musical achievements of these diverse acts. Will.I.Am and The Black Eyed Peas have captured a worldwide audience, The Pussycat Dolls have zoomed onto the scene with their global smash, and Keyshia Cole is redefining R&B music in an era starving for musical righteousness and freshness. It's always about the artist, the music, the singer and the song and it always will be," said A&M President Ron Fair.

A&M Records looks forward to upcoming releases from Sheryl Crow (Wildflower), vocalist/guitarist Jonny Lang, British newcomer Vanessa Brown, rock/pop songstress Joanna Pacitti and R&B/hip hop quartet Metro City. Will.I.Am's eponymous A&M-affiliated label will soon offer the solo debut from The Black Eyed Peas' Fergie and a new album from Grammy winner Macy Gray.

Ill Crew Universal Returns - The Worlds Greatest HipHop Organization is Back and Ready to Take the HipHop Entertainment Industry by Storm

The greatest Hip Hop collective is back to serve as the Intensive Care Unit of Hip Hop once more. ICU is determined to restore balance to Hip Hop culture and secure an accurate documentation of Hip Hop culture's progression.

(PRWEB) July 1, 2005 -- This is to inform you about the reemergence of Ill Crew Universal. As you may recall, Ill Crew Universal (ICU) was the largest Hip-Hop organization in the world, with more than 50,000 members worldwide. ICU gained the respect of the Hip-Hop nation and had both the attention of the mainstream media (MTV, Billboard, Rap Sheet, The Source, Vibe, etc) and many recognized Hip-Hop artists of the time, including Xzibit, Gang Starr, X-Clan, The Alkaholiks, Jurassic 5, Black Eyed Peas, A Tribe Called Quest, Jungle Brothers, UMC's, Paris, Hieroglyphics, The Coup, to name a few.

ICU began its journey in the Hip-Hop world in 1995. By the summer of 1996, ICU had the leading Hip-Hop website on the Internet and gained worldwide notoriety. In fact, ICU helped to create the emergence of Hip-Hop on the Internet through its members. By the year 1999, ICU had over 50,000 members and had released 7 compilations of ICU artist's material. The growth of ICU exceeded the expectations of ICU leadership. By the forth quarter of 1999, ICU closed its doors to new members. Due to excessively rapid growth and success of ICU, we felt it was in the best interest of the organization, and the public at large, to go on an indefinite hiatus until we could bring forth our vision when the time called for it. That time is now! ICU is announcing our return to the Hip-Hop world. ICU leadership spent the past 5 years focusing on independent projects, while keeping a low profile in regards to the organization. We have reorganized our effort, added exceptional talent to ICU leadership, and are prepared to take on the Hip-Hop world once again!

New Ill Crew Universal projects include:
1. Summer 2005 release of a new ICU compilation album featuring HipHop artists from around the world.

2. HipHop Artist education and resource programs intended to aid independent artists in the creation, distribution, exposure and promotion of their work.

3. The official Hip Hop Encyclopedia presented by Ill Crew University. This project is our effort to properly document Hip Hop history as told by the HipHop community. Please visit
http://www.hiphopculture.com for more information.

4. Ill Crew Universal membership program which offers services, information and resources to people who wish to ACTIVELY participate in the empowerment of authentic HipHop culture.

Former Multi-Platinum Rocafella Female Artist Amil Is Back

Once with Jay-Z, Amil is now working with Diamonds.

(PRWEB) July 1, 2005 -- Lucy Diamonds is in the studio w/ the multi-platinum recording artist Amil. Amil was featured on many of Jay-Z's songs, including the #1 smash hit, "Can I get a . . ."

Amil and Lucy Diamonds are working with Grammy winning, mega-producer, Easy Mo Bee -- who produced Tupac, Biggie, Puffy and Alicia Keys (etc.). Easy Mo Bee is in LA right now picking up his ASCAP award for song of the year, "Running (Dying to Live)" which was remixed by Eminem. The amazing thing about the duet is that Amil & Lucy are bringing havoc to a "classic biggie beat" that Easy produced for Biggie, and now he has flipped it a little bit for this new masterpiece, tentatively titled, "B@&ches!"

Also, this controversial white female hip-hop artist, Lucy Diamonds, is releasing two singles as Apple iTunes exclusives (on July 7th), days before the "maxi-single CD's" & "special edition" vinyl hit shelves all across the world. The shocking songs, "Sorry Right Number I & II" have hilarious, even humiliating and taunting references to many celebrities.

In addition, Eminem's producer DJ Head (DJ Head has produced/co-produced over 22 songs of Eminem, including his biggest hits) is on board for Lucy Diamonds' highly anticipated debut record, titled, "Poor Dream Redemption."

The production force of Easy Mo Bee, DJ Head and new-comer Sky Michaels have laid the foundation for Lucy Diamonds' making of a classic.

Clear Channel Radio Station and Independent Reality TV Show Tape Unauthorized Concert.

WinYourOwnTVshow.com Presents: The Cipher Show, gets caught in the middle of a Copyright Infringement situation when asked to tape a Clear Channel Radio Station's event.

New York, NY -- (ArriveNet - Jul 01, 2005) A Music Director and an employee of 105.5 The Beat Jamz, A Southwest Florida Clear Channel Radio Station, allegedly authorized an unauthorized taping of a concert event featuring Platinum Rap Star Mike Jones, hip-hop and rap artists The YoungBloodz, Cuban Link, Tone Loc and many others.

According to inside sources, they invited and verbally authorized The Reality TV Show, "WinYourOwnTVshow.com Presents: The Cipher Show" to film the event. The Music Director for 105.5 The Beat Jamz was the person in charge of this concert event. After the concert was filmed and edited, 105.5 The Beat Jamz Management realized they did not have proper clearance from record labels, management or the artists, to tape the event. However, by the time this was realized it had already been broadcast on the internet. As a result, the entire taping of this event became a huge violation of copyright and trademark infringement.

Crowd participants were also filmed, without proper consent. The Cipher Show was caught in the middle of this situation when they were verbally assured all clearance had been taken care of in advance.

A 105.5 The Beat Jamz/Clear Channel Radio Manager and a Beat Jamz Employee are both on tape, hosting The Cipher Show during this event, and in some scenes, even holding the microphone, performing interviews and talking to the camera, while leading viewers through the Concert. Now Clear Channel is demanding possession of the tapes in question.

WinYourOwnTVshow.com Presents: The Cipher Show has recently indicated an edited segment of this concert was leaked online and viewed over 600 times, before they were aware it was not properly cleared. It is likely the video segment was downloaded.

An official statement posted on http://www.WinYourOwnTVshow.com, currently says, "We also maintain that we were given verbal permission to film, indicating the proper paperwork was signed in advance, and Co-hosting support by the authority in charge of the event, thus providing proof the infringement was not our fault. Unfortunately, for a short period of time a large amount of people were able to access and view a short edited version of this event on our website. If you have downloaded the aforementioned video footage in error, please delete it."

LOS ANGELES, June 30 /PRNewswire/ -- It was a night like no other at the 2005 BET AWARDS as the network's annual salute to superlative performances in music, entertainment and sports lit up the Hollywood skyline and the Kodak Theatre on Tuesday. Fans responded accordingly by making that premiere showing BET's most-watched telecast in the network's history with 6.6 million viewers (5.1 rating, 4.1 million households) watching the three-and-a-half- hour program according to Nielsen Media Research. Now in its fifth year, the '05 BET AWARDS will have encore showings on July 1 at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT and July 4 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

The 2005 viewership numbers marked a double-digit increase for the BET AWARDS telecast across all metered categories. Total viewers increased a whopping 16% versus the 5.7 million from 2004; households jumped 12% compared to 3.6 million; and the overall rating climbed 11% against the 4.6 generated in '04. BET again teamed with Cossette Productions, famed producers of the GRAMMY Awards(R) and the four previous record-setting BET AWARDS shows, to handle production of the telecast.

The BET AWARDS post-show THE AFTERSHOCK, hosted by BET News anchor Jacque Reid and Entertainment Tonight's Kevin Frazier, maximized momentum from the awards telecast, too, grabbing 3.4 million viewers (2.36 rating, 2.1 million households). It's now the most-watched BET AWARDS Post-Show ever, increasing its audience by 9% over 2004.

Rapper/producer impresario Kanye West was the evening's big winner, grabbing awards for Best Male Hip Hop Artist and for Video of the Year for his spiritual composition "Jesus Walks." First-time BET AWARDS nominees Ciara and John Legend each walked away with trophies, as Ciara won for Best Collaboration for her tandem with rapper Missy Elliott on "1, 2 Step," and Legend scored as Best New Artist. BET also used the star-studded night to honor music legend Gladys Knight with the network's Lifetime Achievement Award, and Academy Award-winning actor Denzel Washington and his wife Pauletta with the BET Humanitarian Award.

Former B2k phenom Omarion won the coveted Viewers' Choice Award, voted on prior to and in real time on the BET.com website throughout the telecast. This was also the first year that viewers could vote via major wireless carriers. A total of 805,479 votes were cast in the hotly-contested category.

BET's big night exploded with amazing performances and special salutes as Hollywood power couple Will Smith and wife Jada Pinkett Smith served as hosts for the first time. Bringing the audience to its feet from the beginning was a surprise reunion of Lauren Hill and the Fugees with a killer performance of their old school hits including "Ready or Not" and "Killing Me Softly." Hip-Hop Officially Meets Wall Street as Sciax Corp. Appoints Giorgio Costonis President

BAY CITY, Mich. and TORONTO, June 29, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Sciax Corp. (Pink Sheets:SCXC) announced today that multi-media executive Giorgio Costonis who is also president of its subsidiary RMD Entertainment Inc. has been selected to become their new President. He will be responsible for developing the company's new business model. While Sciax once focused exclusively on manufacturing homeland defense products, Costonis is revamping the company by putting the emphasis on products and services that serve entertainment, lifestyle, and technology-based arenas.

Working alongside a team of marketing experts and having access to prolific data collection tools, Costonis has his finger on the pulse of a key demographic that drives the American economy . . . 14-24 year olds. Costonis is focused on modifying Sciax's business philosophy to specifically target this core consumer cross-section by creating a company directed specifically at them.

The development of a strong matrix of products in high fashion and music will be a key focus. Hip-Hop in particular remains the cornerstone of Costonis' plan to transform Sciax. In a recent deal with Bungalo Records, exclusively distributed by Universal Music & Video Distribution, Costonis secured a distribution deal for RMD Entertainment Inc., a subsidiary of Sciax Corp., which guarantees North American circulation of any music-related endeavor that emerges from RMD.

Hip-Hop music has proven itself to be a cultural and economic phenomenon by exceeding the billion-dollar mark in the U.S. Costonis has made it quite evident that he will take successful Hip-Hop oriented business models and use advanced technological and marketing resources to bring them to the next level. Much like Sean "P. Diddy" Combs took Hip-Hop culture and applied it to fashion; Costonis believes that expansive revenue streams are waiting to open up if you apply technology to Hip-Hop.

Costonis said: We are currently in a unique position in that we feel we can compete effectively in both the Hip-Hop Music Marketplace and Technology Marketplace on a global level fairly quickly. Not only will we be generating consistent revenue through our own music releases, we will continue to develop easy to use, interactive formats, which will have the capability to deliver music and video content on a global scale. More importantly, our formats will be very entertaining to the end user. Sciax is now actively pursuing additional partnerships and acquisitions that will assist in this endeavor. It is our belief that this type of business structure is the next step in the evolutionary process of Hip-Hop and the companies that produce it. Furthermore, these same companies will reap additional revenue from the numerous ancillary products that are cross-marketed to the same audience. Our strategy is to add pieces that have the potential for more revenue in the short term, rather than go into a long-standing development stage. "The market is there and has been for quite some time and the technology is constantly evolving, allowing us to become more flexible with distribution systems and our overall marketing strategy. All of the companies that we have in Sciax should complement each other, make each other better, and adhere to an overall philosophy and corporate culture. We want people to look at us as a strong organization, not just a holding company on the stock exchange."

Late Rap Artist Big Pun's Medallion on eBay

By now we have all heard that rapper Big Pun's T.S. tombstone Medallion has been put up for auction on eBay on behalf of the Big Pun's family, the Rios family.

ThugLifeArmy.com Sadly Announces -- (ArriveNet - Jun 29, 2005) --By now we have all heard that rapper Big Pun's T.S. tombstone Medallion has been put up for auction on eBay on behalf of the Big Pun's family, the Rios family. Not only do I report this so people will know about it but, of course to ask where the hip-hop community is today. Too much money to be made elsewhere to stop and give a #### about a legend like Big Pun and his family?

I know, I know, actually we all know how it goes! Hurry up and find your reason for not supporting the mans family but, dedicate your next video to him and shout him out every chance you get. Or tell the world he is your idol and the only reason you are rapping today. Hey, here's an idea wear a t-shirt with his face on it in your next video.

Now the list is to long to get into but all you rap artists out there know who you are and know what you should be doing right now. If I had the funds and the knowledge on how to collect the money I would. To me the ultimate ending would be to see the fans win the auction and give the medallion back to his wife.

At the time I am writing this there is 25 bids the highest so far being $12,100.00, The following is from the auction on eBay:

PRE-APPROVAL NEEDED BEFORE BIDDING, unapproved bids will be removed, email info@bigpunshop.com for approval. This item is being auctioned on behalf of the Rios family. You are bidding on the original iced out Terror Squad medallion worn by Big Pun, the first Latin solo rapper to go Platinum. This is not a duplicate, this is the authentic piece that Big Pun paid over $100,000 to have created.

The Medallion is Yellow Gold dipped in White Gold, roughly 598 grams. There are approximately 1728 baguette diamonds, and approximately 173 round diamonds in the medallion. The winning bidder of this auction will travel to New York (flight expenses will be deducted from the total) where they will receive the T.S. medallion personally from Liza Rios.

The sale of this medallion goes to Big Pun's wife and three children. Since Pun's untimely passing in 2000, Pun's wife has struggled to raise their three children as well as make mortgage payments on their home and other expenses. Contrary to what some believe, the family are far from millionaires, Pun's wife and children do not receive royalty checks for Pun's first two albums, and only one small royalty check was paid for Pun's final album. The family's attempts to get the money due to his children have been unsuccessful to date. By bidding on this piece of Hip Hop history, you are helping the family of a Rap legend, part of the funds will also go towards legal efforts to retrieve any unpaid album sale money the children could receive.

The Fugees Reunite as Surprise Opening Act at 2005 BET Awards Show

Multiple Platinum Hip-Hop Supergroup Returns to Form With Spontaneous Performance at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre

NEW YORK, June 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The Fugees -- Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, and Prakazrel Michel ("Pras") -- took audience members, and television viewers, by surprise when the legendary hip-hop supergroup appeared on-stage at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre as the unannounced opening act for the 2005 BET Awards ceremony on Tuesday, June 28.

To the delight of the audience at the Kodak Theatre and fans watching the ceremony on BET at home, the rejuvenated Fugees performed a jaw-dropping set that included the signature hits "Ready or Not," "Fu-Gee-La," and "Killing Me Softly With His Song."

Lauryn, Wyclef and Pras have been busy working together in New York City creating a new studio album, the long-awaited successor to the Fugees' groundbreaking last opus, The Score, the biggest-selling hip-hop album of all time.

Released in 1996, The Score became that year's best-selling album, taking home two Grammy Awards: Best Rap Album and Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal (for "Killing Me Softly With His Song"). Certified 6x platinum by the RIAA, The Score has sold more than 13,600,000 copies worldwide.

Following the massive international success of The Score, the Fugees went on hiatus with the group's individual members -- Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, and Pras -- each pursuing solo careers.

Lauryn's 1998 debut solo album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, earned the artist five Grammy Awards including Album of the Year, and has been certified 8x platinum by the RIAA.

Wyclef Jean, the first of the Fugees to embark on a solo career, racked up seven RIAA gold and platinum certifications for his solo albums -- 1997's The Carnival (gold, 2x platinum) and The Ecleftic: 2 Sides II A Book (gold, platinum) -- and 1998's smash single "Gone Till November" (gold, platinum). Clef has been in-demand as a producer/mixer (Santana, Whitney Houston, Black-Eyed Peas, Destiny's Child) and is an outspoken social activist and force behind numerous benefit concerts including aid for his native Haiti.

Prakazrel Michel ("Pras") -- who co-founded the rap group Tranzlator Crew (later rechristened the Fugees when Pras' cousin Wyclef joined) with his high- school classmate Lauryn Hill in 1987 -- had a #1 R&B hit with his 1998 single, "Ghetto Supastar (That Is What You Are)," from the soundtrack of Warren Beatty's "Bulworth." Turning his attention to film, Pras played a villain in the 1999 Ben Stiller superhero send-up, "Mystery Men," and starred as a struggling drug-running rap musician in "Turn It Up," a film based on Pras' own "Ghetto Supastar" sagas.

The Fugees gave the first intimidation of a full-fledged reunion when the group made a surprise appearance at a Brooklyn block party thrown by comedian Dave Chappelle in September 2004.

His musical style, as seen on his first single, "MCs Be Killin' Me", is party-oriented but still gives listeners something intellectual to think about.

"My music reflects the two sides in one person. I'm a quiet person because I like to observe. But when making noise is truly necessary, I can make a comment out of nowhere and have the crowd falling out laughing or thinking seriously about something," Storm explains.

He sharpened his stage skills by continually performing at clubs, colleges, and showcases including Showtime at the Apollo, Nuyorican Cafe, the Philadelphia Music Conference, and Motown's Black History Month Conference. Storm could also be regularly found building his MC talents with the Freestyle Union, a D.C. hip hop organization that held monthly ciphers, rhyming workshops, and shows.

Storm's infinite presence in the MD/DC/VA Hip Hop underground has generated a huge local fan-base. Fans credit the artist with spitfire lyrical delivery. Additionally, they praise his style, which embraces the essence of late 80's and early/mid 90's Hip Hop, while at the same time still making it accessible to todays new generation of listeners. His music reminds fans of "a much happier, feel good and conscious Hip Hop", a time when having fun and getting uplifted by hip hop music was part of the norm. The Washington Area Music Association named Storm the 2002, 2003, and 2004 Hip Hop Artist Of The Year. He was also the 2002 and 2003 Hip Hop Recording of the year award recipient given by that same organization.

Storm's music has received praise from XXL, The Source, Elemental and Insomniac magazines as well as the Washington Post, Washington City Paper, and various other print and internet magazines/newspapers. Radio listeners across the country and worldwide have heard his songs on stations such as Hot 97FM in New York and both WPGC and WKYS in Washington, D.C. His previous single, "Get Your Weight Up (Big Girl Anthem)", won the WPGC 95.5 Homejams competition enabling him to open up for their Springjam concert along side Ludacris, Fabolous, Ashanti, and others. The single was released in October 2002 and rose to number 2 on the national college charts. It was followed by Storms first full length AMALGAMATION in February 2003. His latest single, "Yall Know The Name", off the 3 Piece, Extra Mumbo EP rose to number one on both the Rapattacklives and Rapnetwork national college radio/mixshow charts the week of January 24, 2005.

With all his experience and preparation, Storm the Unpredictable is ready for hip hops big leagues. Still, with success just around the corner, he continues to remain humble. "My biggest message is to have fun while keeping things in perspective. We have faults and its okay to have material things, but let's remember the things that are really important, things like God and family", Storm says.

Look for "A2: What Should Have Been" with production and guest appearances from Decompoze (DC), Brainstorm Sounds, DJ Symphoni, Danja Mowf, C. Walker a.k.a. Kokayi, The Unknown, Priest da nomad, and Lonnie B later this year on Ty-She /S.P.P./Domination Recordings. The joint venture between Ty-She Entertainment/Recordings, S.P.P. Waxworks (who will be handling vinyl and some promotional duties), and Domination Recordings will ensure that "A2: What Should Have Been" has a national and international presence in regular retail outlets, chains, mom-and-pop stores as well as online stores. The company's primary goal is to market and distribute quality independent hip-hop releases as well as help to build long-lasting careers for its recording artists.

DCIA Addresses Supreme Court Decision in MGM v. Grokster Case

The Distributed Computing Industry Association (www.dcia.info), which focuses on peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing and last week celebrated the milestone of recruiting fifty (50) Members in less than two years, responded to todays US Supreme Court ruling in the MGM v. Grokster case by committing to redouble its efforts to foster the industrys commercial development.

Arlington, VA (PRWEB) June 28, 2005 -- The Distributed Computing Industry Association (www.dcia.info), which focuses on peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing and last week celebrated the milestone of recruiting fifty (50) Members in less than two years, responded to todays US Supreme Court ruling in the MGM v. Grokster case by committing to redouble its efforts to foster the industrys commercial development.

The DCIA welcomes the Courts refusal to rework the Betamax decision, and is optimistic that the grounds for secondary liability that it announced today will prove to be fair and workable. As the case works it way back through the lower courts, we anticipate clarification of the rules of engagement between content providers and technology suppliers in the digital realm generally, and with respect to peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing in particular. We are confident that todays decision in the MGM v. Grokster case will ultimately lead to the continued expansion of our industry, said DCIA CEO Marty Lafferty in making the announcement.

We urge all affected parties to focus now on deploying new business models for content distribution that are non-infringing and expand the marketplace for digital content, and not to pursue legislative intervention, which would only be counter-productive. The private sector, with added clarity that will result from such lower court outcomes, should manage the process from here, he added.

This ruling provides impetus for the P2P distribution channel to grow and flourish. P2P digital rights management (DRM) technologies and micro-payment services have been proven with computer games, software, and independent music and films. Major labels and studios can avail themselves of these tools to develop marketplace solutions starting today.

We hope the Courts decision will lead to a shift away from conflict and toward commerce, and we encourage everyone to come to the table and develop new business partnerships. The MPAA and RIAA and their powerful members control 90% of popular entertainment content distribution and can now move forward to license responsible P2P companies using this highly efficient and extremely popular channel for the distribution of their copyrighted works to create new markets and revenue opportunities. P2P file-sharing technologies are part of the larger movement to an increasingly distributed computing environment. As the Court affirmed, this kind of technological progress is inevitable embracing it to harness its capabilities will prove to be much more gainful than resisting or trying to stop it, Lafferty concluded.

Representatives of DCIA Member companies and officials of the trade organization are available to comment on todays decision. Please contact DCIA Communications leader Kelly Larabee to arrange interviews.

These DCIA Member company representatives are available to comment: INTENT MediaWorks CEO Les Ottolenghi, RazorPop CE Marc Freedman, Shared Media Licensing John Beezer, and SMARTguard Software CEO Jerald Block.

These DCIA officials are available: DCIA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Marty Lafferty, DCIA Government Relations leader Doug Campbell, DCIA Member Services leader Karen Kaplowitz, and DCIA Best Practices leader Elaine Reiss.

The Pharcyde Continue the Bizarre Ride

Hip Hop Legends Keep Blazin' With New Album, Fresh Video, And Collaboration With The Gorillaz

(Brooklyn, NY June 27, 2005) Lest you thought they had disappeared in a haze of smoke, The Pharcyde have been hard at work and will be unveiling several new projects this summer. First, they will drop their 4th studio album, Humboldt Beginnings, in July on Chapter1 Records (Their own imprint). Accompanying the album will be the lush video for the lead single, "Knew U". Thirdly, Booty Brown recently lent his vocal skills to the upcoming Gorillaz single "Dirty Harry".

It's been over a decade since the young California quartet called the Pharcyde released the classic Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde album. The group has been through a lot since then: 4 studio albums, a line-up change, and the formation of their own label. Summer 2005 finds founding members Booty Brown and Imani in fine form, now music industry veterans who are firmly in control of their own destiny. Humboldt Beginnings gives their fans a trip down memory lane with the same laissez-faire vibe and fertile lyrics from the Pharcyde's past classics while paying homage to their favorite plant (and even providing a recipe for "special" brownies on the inside sleeve of the CD). With a mischievous smile Brown explains, "Some hip-hop is so serious these days. We made this album for people to vibe to."

"Knew U" is the lead single; an atmospheric joint about how the people you think you know best may have another side to them you never thought possible. In true Pharcyde street-hustle style, the video for the single was made using hijacked equipment from the film set of xXx: State of the Union. While the film production broke for the weekend, the Pharcyde moved in and "borrowed" some gear to do a marathon 48-hour video shoot. The result is a clever and compelling video that features Brown and Imani in dapper white suits, beautiful women, and an ending plot twist that will definitely surprise you!

Booty Brown has also been involved in several side projects, most notably with a guest appearance on the latest album from everyone's favorite cartoon band, Gorillaz. Before DJ Danger Mouse was selected as the producer for Demon Days, Brown had made some demos with the infamous producer of The Grey Album. When Danger Mouse sent Damon Albarn (head Gorilla and ex-Blur) some demo tracks, Albarn was immediately taken with Brown's vocals and requested that he be included on the project. Brown then flew to England to drop some rhymes on the upcoming single "Dirty Harry".

With so many new projects, the Pharcyde continue to prove themselves as relevant trail-blazing artists, not just classic hip-hop ambassadors. And don't be so quick to think that this bizarre ride has made them lose touch with their silly side because they have a few things to say to any doubters: Ya mama, ya mama, ya mama.

Hot Karl Finally Delivers The Steaming Goods

The "Other-White-Rapper-Once-Signed-To-Interscope" Set To Drop His Long-Awaited Debut Album, "The Great Escape"

(Brooklyn, NY June 27, 2005) Hot Karl, aka Jensen Karp, will release his (second) debut album, The Great Escape, on Headless Heroes/BBE Records on July 19th, 2005. The album features guest appearances from MC Serch (3rd Bass), Reggie Watts (Maktub) and Ali Abnormal, as well as production from 9th Wonder, She Wants Revenge (Justin Warfield & Adam 12), Ali Dee, Mayru and Jamey Staub.

In 2001, after spending $750,000, Interscope Records shelved what was to be Karl's first album because of alleged complaints from another white rapper on the label (you might have heard of him- some call him Eminem). Three years later, Karl has returned with a completely new album that conveys something different than the pervasive and played out thug/bling theme found on most hip-hop records today. "I'm only going to speak about things I know," Karl explains. "My keeping it real is much different than most other MC's." Karl's trademark humor and witty word play are the unique result of being weaned on early hip hop classics like N.W.A, 3rd Bass, and Slick Rick while growing up as a white middle-class suburbanite. He couldn't relate to the subjects they rapped about, but he grew to love the art form and began writing and rapping at an early age.

In case anyone doubts Hot Karl's legitimacy or credentials as a true hip-hop artist, consider these fun facts: Karl's name was bestowed upon him by ICE-T, after witnessing 13 year-old Jensen Karp destroy another MC in a freestyle battle ("Is this the kid who just shit on that MC?"). Later, Karl was reigning freestyle champion for a record 44 days on The Roll Call competition on LA's KKBT "The Beat" 100.3. After hearing Karl on the radio, Mac-10 offered to sign him with $50,000 in cash from the trunk of his car ("That was all I had on me at the time").

The first single from The Great Escape will be Kerk Gybson, a synthy ode to the 80's that is destined to be a summertime anthem. Get ready for the true voice of suburban America: Hot Karl.

50 Cent is a Crossover Hit in New Reebok TV Ad

For the First Time, the Rap Icon Teams Up with Top Athletes Donovan McNabb, Manny Ramirez and Winky Wright to Promote the Brand's GXT II Cross Trainer

CANTON, Mass., June 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- In a true fusion of music and sports, hip-hop phenom 50 Cent proves he can also play with the best in sports in his new Reebok TV ad "Street Sports" promoting the Gxt II cross trainer. Debuting on June 28th on BET during the 2005 BET Music Awards, the spot showcases 50 Cent paired up for the first time with fellow Reebok superstars including Boston Red Sox World Series MVP Manny Ramirez, Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro Quarterback Donovan McNabb, and WBC Junior Middleweight World Boxing Champion Ronald "Winky" Wright.

Created by New York advertising agency mcgarrybowen, the TV ad, which will run on BET, ESPN and MTV in 30- and 60-second executions, celebrates 50 Cent's versatile athletic ability made possible in part by his Gxt II Cross trainers. Ads will also run on select radio outlets throughout the country, in out-of- home, online and in print executions in the August issue of Vibe Magazine, XXL and Slam.

"Reebok's goal was to showcase the Gxt II cross trainer as a shoe that performs across many sports, yet has a look that is hot on the street -- there's nothing else like this in the cross training category" said Brian Povinelli, Reebok's vice president of global integrated marketing. "50 Cent is not only one of today's biggest artists, he is also a phenomenal athlete. Teaming him up with Manny, Winky and Donovan was a natural way to highlight the positioning for this product."

Directed by renowned music video director Jessy Terrero, who has worked on a number of 50 Cent's music videos, the commercial opens with 50 Cent playing urban stickball with Manny Ramirez. The All-Star outfielder steps up to bat and chants "triala, triala!" before launching a tennis ball onto a building's roof. The commercial continues with 50 Cent shadow boxing middleweight champ "Winky" Wright, and ends with the rap artist playing street football with Eagles star Donovan McNabb. The ad jumps from one sport to the next, showing that the Gxt II cross trainers can be used for a variety of athletic training.

"Filming this ad was a big opportunity for me to demonstrate my passion for sport and show everyone that I can hold it down when it comes to stickball, boxing and football. I never had so much fun at a commercial shoot," said 50 Cent. "Reebok truly understands street sports and the ad brings the concept of the Gxt II to life."

"Over the years, Reebok has been a leader in bringing together sports and music personalities," said Donovan McNabb. "It was a lot of fun playing a little street football with someone of 50's stature and he really is an amazing athlete."

Available in stores on July 1st for a suggested retail price of $90.50, the Gxt II features an old-school cross-training silhouette in sleek leather with micro perferation detailing. The cushioned insole provides comfort and support. The Gxt II also contains DMX micro technology for lightweight support and the sole features a skeletal tread with a pivot point at the in- step to allow for accelerated range of motion. Agency Captures 10 Cyber Lions

First Titanium Lion for Integrated Marketing Caps Best Performance Ever

NEW YORK, June 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Euro RSCG Worldwide achieved its best performance ever at the Cannes International Advertising Festival 2005 with the win of 15 Lions -- 2 Gold, 5 Silver, 7 Bronze, and the first of the Titanium Lions ever awarded for Integrated Marketing.

Highlights of the agency's performance:

* Euro RSCG won 10 Cyber Lions. Euro RSCG 4D Brazil, the marketing
services brand of the company, won 5 Cyber Lions alone and was named a
runner-up for "Interactive Agency of the Year."

* Euro RSCG's Fuel Europe Amsterdam won Gold, Silver, Bronze and the
first of the Titanium Lions ever awarded for Integrated Marketing --
all for client, Volvo.

The Titanium Lion-winning campaign for Volvo's "Life on Board Project"
conveys the company's single-minded approach towards building cars for
real people and real-life challenges. The project documents seven
conversations about life between real people driving in a Volvo. No
actors, scripts, story boards, special effects, or stunts were used. A
Volvo website hosted the full project experience, and it was available
on PDA micro site, DVDs in national press, and in-flight entertainment.
Off-line activities drove traffic to the project hubs.

* Euro RSCG London's Citroen C4 TV commercial called "Carbot" was awarded
a Bronze Lion. In the spot, the car, bristling with electronic
technology, comes alive as a car robot with amazing hip-hop dance
moves. The commercial has received rave reviews and been consistently
ranked as one of the most popular ads in the United Kingdom.

* Euro RSCG Flagship Thailand solidified its hot streak as one of Asia's
most dynamic creative newcomers with the win of two Silver Lions, one
in TV and Press.

Jim Heekin, Chairman and CEO of Euro RSCG Worldwide, said, "Our showing in Cyber Lions underscores the fact that Euro RSCG 4D is not only the world's largest digital and direct network but also an emerging creative powerhouse in the interactive space.

"Our integrated marketing work for Volvo, acknowledged with the Titanium Lion, is a brilliant testament to our Creative Business Ideas(R) with the power to build brands across the communications spectrum."

Gary "Illuminati" Sturgis who wowed audiences in the box office hit, Diary of a Mad Black Woman, as bad boy "Jamison Jackson" now scores big with his debut CD release, "Fahrenheit."

(PRWEB) June 26, 2005 -- Gary Sturgis delivers a show stopping performance as bad boy Jamison Milton Jackson in Tyler Perrys 2005 motion picture release Diary of a Mad Black Woman, which opened at Number 1 at the box office nationwide, earlier this year, and is scheduled for release on DVD on June 28, 2005.

The buzz on Sturgis' performance in "Diary" is growing. Sturgis powerful portrayal of the menacing Jackson captivates the audience and leaves a lasting impression long after he has left the screen. Before his face is revealed, Sturgis ominous voice captures the audiences attention and has them asking the question Who is the man behind that voice? Charismatic and driven, Sturgis began his pursuit into the entertainment industry with the expectation of achieving stardom solely as an actor. However a twist of fate gave him an opportunity to put his voice, called aggressive, sharp, menacing and beautiful all at once, to good use. Sturgis says, I had no idea a living could be made from voice acting, but once I started, jobs began coming in.

Voiceover credits include eight years as the UPN Monday night line up announcer for such shows as Girlfriends, Moesha, The Parkers and The Hughleys." Commercial spots include Ford, Disneyland, AT&T, Dodge, PacBell and Skittles. Motion picture spots include Kill Bill, The Others, Two Can Play That Game and Bones. Animation spots include the voice of Ebon in Static Shock, Batman Beyond, and Scooby Doo and the Phantom Virus. A multi-talented artist, Sturgis' voice-over and acting successes have paved the way for other entertainment ventures.

Now Sturgis releases his debut CD Fahrenheit" as rapper Illuminati. He is the CEO of Predator Records, which currently has five artists on its roster with scheduled fall 2005 releases. In addition Sturgis teaches voice-over classes for aspiring voice-over artists. Gary "Illuminati" Sturgis also has written several films, in which he will star and direct, for which he is seeking distribution.

From the film set to the booth, the saga continues.

About his new venture into the rap world, Sturgis adds, "I'll still be doing films as Gary Sturgis, but my music brand will be Illuminati."

GOTEE RECORDS RECORDING ARTISTS MARS ILL RETURNS WITH THIRD FULL-LENGTH TO BRING A MUCH NEEDED FACELIFT TO HIP-HOP

(Atlanta, Ga- June 24, 2005)- Mars ILLs latest endeavor, PRO PAIN, is an offering that is as diverse as it is consistent in its superior delivery. After building a base that started with local club dates, the group pressed limited edition vinyl and embarked on national tours to support their first and second releases, Raw Material and Backbreakanomics, respectively. PRO PAIN, their third full-length release, remains on Mars ILLs course of continued evolution.

The framework of Mars Ill, the two-piece Atlanta collective comprised of Manchild (emcee) and Dust (DJ) may seem deviant of others in the circuit but the results achieved are in a class of their own. Razor sharp rhymes interact with street-smart lyrics, turntable scratches and free flowing hip-hop rhythms. There is a hearty dose of sweat-stained reality derived from years of slugging it out on the Atlanta scene.

Atlanta is very much responsible for who we are as artists and people, from weekly open mics to working with a community of artists over the years, explains Manchild. This ones about showing the world who we are as artists and taking it to the next level, raising it up one more notch then we were before. I certainly see a lot of guys living a particular lifestyle and Id be an actor if I tried to be like that, admits Manchild. To us its all about the music and making the best quality you can, not about the smoke, the mirrors and the hype. Every time we do something, we put a lot of ourselves into it and seek growth. The goal is to communicate better while still keeping the groove going.

Mars Ill digs deep on PRO PAIN, laying out personal struggles and setbacks while providing a realistic hope Having that no holds barred mentality sets the pair and assigns an instant credibility and relate-ability to the tracks on PRO PAIN. Sonically, the album is marked by progressive pop prodding, powerful production and a delicate balance between underground acceptance and accessibility. A fusion of grassroots beat box experimentation coasts neck and neck with slick lyrical statements sure to captivate longtime followers and capture new observers.

New tracks that up the ante include When Heaven Scrapes, an entrancing neo-soul shuffle, and Effortless, a poetically charged wake up call to stop complaining about catastrophes and how to cut them down to a more manageable stature. Sound Off is equally as potent, signaling a call to arms for people to plug into their communities and increase fellowship.
Mars ILL themselves employ several Georgia locals on the project. Saturday Night Special is supplemented by lightening speed battle emcee Ishues, Write of Passage includes the shimmering saunter of Ben Hameen and J-Mil of Collective Efforts, while More is met with supplementation from Ahmad (part of fellow Gotee act 4th Avenue Jones).

We want to show the world who these guys are, enthuses manCHILD. Theres a lot of incredible talent out there that deserves a platform. By working together, it only helps us all make better music.
