Queen Latifah Launches CURVATION PROJECT CONFIDENCE AWARDS with Free Mini Concert

- Over a Thousand Attend Concert at Wal-Mart to Welcome Queen Latifah Home -

SECAUCUS, N.J., July 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Grammy Award winning musician and Academy Award nominee Queen Latifah launched the CURVATION PROJECT CONFIDENCE AWARDS last night with a free mini-concert in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart in Secaucus, NJ. Backed by a full band, Queen Latifah performed a variety of her hits.

(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20050715/NYF030 )

"It was exciting to offer a free concert in my home state, so close to where I grew up, for a cause that's so close to my heart: encouraging women to project confidence and to share the gift of confidence with others," said Queen Latifah.

The CURVATION PROJECT CONFIDENCE AWARDS is a nationwide search to recognize women who personify and project the power of confidence. Queen Latifah is the inspiration, spokesperson, and creative consultant for VF Intimates' CURVATION(R) brand of intimate apparel for today's curvaceous women.

"I encourage you to nominate women who have inspired you to feel more confident, or who have been instrumental in creating or participating in programs that help women embrace the power of confidence," Queen Latifah told the crowd.

To nominate inspiring women for the awards visit http://www.curvation.com/ or mail in a completed entry form, available by calling 1-800-505-2378 and at select Wal-Mart and Kmart stores during Curvation Confidence Days. Forms will also be available at the Sugar Water Festival -- Queen Latifah's first national tour in eight years, also featuring Jill Scott and Erykah Badu. The tour is being sponsored by the CURVATION(R) brand.

Five finalists will be chosen by Queen Latifah and a panel of experts. The finalists will receive a $2,000 grant towards the program or cause with which they are affiliated, so that they can continue their work in building women's confidence. The panel will choose one grand prize winner who will be awarded an additional $10,000 grant to support her project or program. All finalists will be honored at a luncheon hosted by Queen Latifah in early 2006.

"I credit much of who I am today to the confidence I was given as a child," Queen Latifah told the crowd. "Strong, independent women like my mother and grandmother showed me the power of believing in myself and now I want to pass this message on. I know that if we can help women build their confidence, we can help them live more fulfilling lives."

The CURVATION PROJECT CONFIDENCE AWARDS is part of the multi-year, multi-part CURVATION PROJECT CONFIDENCE initiative, which in turn is part of the extended partnership agreement between the Curvation brand and Queen Latifah announced by VF Intimates on June 16. CURVATION NATION, another component of CURVATION PROJECT CONFIDENCE, is an online community where women who have embraced the power of confidence can inspire and share their ideas with an ever-widening community. Women can find CURVATION NATION at http://www.curvation.com/, where they can also opt-in to receive CURVATION(R) product and event updates, including details surrounding the Sugar Water Festival where Queen Latifah and Curvation will further spread the CURVATION PROJECT CONFIDENCE messages.

Hip Hop Brand Becomes The "New"-Scents In Air Fresheners

Hip Hip Air Fresheners starts to take off with sales of over 75,000 units i think we have some sort of fad on our hands

Atlanta, Georgia (PRWEB) July 15, 2005 -- The newest hip-hop trend of the summer comes not from the hottest clothing designer, instead it finds itself in the form of an automobile air freshener.

Hot new fragrances like Gangsta Lean Cherry, Hot Boy Vanilla, and Keep It Pimpin Spice are just a few of the aromatic offerings developed by Urban Air Fresheners, Inc., an Atlanta-based firm.

The concept was the borne of CEO and native New Yorker, Tarik Edmonson, a self-proclaimed lover of hip-hop whose vision has come to life.

There is always a market for any product with hip-hop influence, he remarks. Our customers are young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 who wanted something that represented their hood and we are giving it to them.

It has become clear that Edmonson is correct in his viewpoint. These sharp looking and great smelling accessories are popping up in a number of Atlanta neighborhood retailers.

Weve shipped 60,000 units to Atlanta within the last three days, says Marceau Lasada, of Lasada Ltd., a North Carolina distributor, and weve received additional orders from a number of other national retailers.

We only met with Lasada Ltd two months ago. They were very enthusiastic about our product, and were anxious to work with us. If sales continue at the current pace as indicated by the Atlanta market, says Edmonson, we can expect to move as much as 275,000 units before summer ends.

Urban Air Fresheners, Inc. the maker of hip-hop auto air fresheners is currently enjoying the favorable buzz that has been generated as a result of recent exposure in Sister 2 Sister magazine. Their products are available at local Atlanta retailers.

Now Available to Entrepreneurs Worldwide, Online Music Stores Mirroring ItsFun.com

PHOENIX, July 14 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- ItsFun.com, the innovative online digital music store, and a subsidiary of Sounds 24-7, Inc. (Pink Sheets:SDSX) announced it is selling mirror images of itself. For a minimal investment of $495, entrepreneurs can secure a turn-key operation, wherein they can market music in any or all genres, just as ItsFun.com does.

New store owners will get to keep 25% of the music sales, 50% of new artist sign up and 50% of advertising sales from their stores -- and they won't have to wait three months for their money. ItsFun will pay them every week.

As of this writing, 53 ItsFun.com online digital stores are already in place. Current ItsFun.com Store Owners include a 17 year old high school grad, club DJ, radio station owner, musician, pizza store night manager, aspiring actress, single mom, school teacher, financial advisor, college student, active military and a nurse. Through an aggressive marketing campaign, ItsFun.com expects to sell an additional 500 to 700 stores by years end.

Each of the stores, for an additional fee, can be customized with a different look and feel such as; hip hop, rock, country and religious music. J.R. Williams, spokesperson for ItsFun.com commented, "This is a great way to broaden the market for our artists and to give individuals with an entrepreneurial spirit a way to get into the music business."

"This market is vast. Our concept has enabled us to join the ranks of Ted Mack's Original Amateur Hour, Star Search, American Idol and others. We are promoting and marketing talented and motivated emerging artists of tomorrow," said Williams. There are an estimated 8 million unsigned independent artists and independent labels which presently have no cost-effective way to market their products to a national and international audience. By aligning themselves with ItsFun.com's family of stores, they will be able to create an audience and generate income with minimal effort and expense on their part.

Furthermore, recent statistics estimate there are more than 888 million Internet users throughout the world. These users contributed 11 billion dollars in revenue in 2004 for the digital distribution of music, video and games. More exciting is that this market is expected to expand to 73 billion dollars over the next 5 years. Even better for the industry is that illegal downloads may finally come to an end. The Supreme Court has held that file sharing of these products is illegal and the companies providing the software platforms can be held liable. The future is bright for ItsFun.com and its storeowners.

ItsFun.com changed the way the music industry operates. ItsFun.com provides independent artists of all genres a vehicle for distributing their music to the public, and allows music lovers of all types legitimate access to that music at prices established by the artists and or their labels. ItsFun.com allows musicians to benefit financially from their creative endeavors while offering the public unprecedented access to the newest, freshest music at reasonable prices set by artists.

RMD Entertainment Finalizes Contract With Groove Mobile; Expands Distribution in Booming Ringtone Market

BAY CITY, Mich. and TORONTO, July 14, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- RMD Entertainment Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Sciax Corp. (Pink Sheets:SCXC), finalized a ringtone distribution agreement in which Groove Mobile will distribute RMD's entire music catalogue. Groove Mobile works in affiliation with 5 of the top European ringtone resellers which include Orange of the UK, Eurotel for the Czech Republic, Telenor from Norway, Pannon from Hungary, and PTC from Poland.

"A ringtone is an audio clip that signals an incoming cell phone call. People are looking for a way to show their individuality and ringtones give them the ability to do that. One's ringtone, after all, says a lot about a person's taste in music, sense of humor and other personality traits. For years, mobile phone users have been replacing their standard ringers with popular music, television theme songs, comedy routines and funny quotes and sounds," stated Giorgio Costonis.

Although ringtones are not new, they have just recently hit their peak. According to BMI, a U.S. performing rights organization, American ringtone sales reached $245 million last year, up from $68 million in 2003. This year's U.S. sales are projected to top $500 million. The European market is even larger than the U.S. market because ringtones were introduced earlier to mobile telephone subscribers.

Leigh Harty, Content Manager of Grove Mobile said, "We are very excited to work with RMD Entertainment. Their existing catalogue is extensive, including established artists such as Freedom Williams of C&C Music Factory, as well as a tremendous group of new artists set to launch later this year and early 2006. Our plan is to synchronize release schedules of Grove Mobile and RMD's European distribution arms to maximize their profile and revenues in the market."

Giorgio Costonis, CEO of Sciax Corp. and President of RMD Entertainment, added, "We are continuing to pursue the 14 to 24 year old market internationally. Groove Mobile allows us to establish a substantial foothold in that target demographic revenue base throughout the European territory. Hip Hop has become an international phenomenon and we feel that it was imperative to tap into all global markets in every arena available as technology continues to develop."

About Sciax:

Hot Workwear Brand Dickies Helps Make Public School Uniform Codes More Palatable for Teens

FORT WORTH, Texas, July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Parents like them and kids hate them -- school uniforms, that is. But with nearly one in five U.S. public school students now wearing mandatory attire, finally there's a choice that makes fashion sense too, just in time for the first bell.

(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20050714/NYFNSJ13 )

Dickies, a powerhouse global workwear brand known for durable, functional clothing, now offers a complete line of school uniform tops, shirts, shorts, skort, pants, sweaters, hoodies and jackets for male and female students from Kindergarten through High School. See http://www.dickies.com/ .

Because the Dickies brand is hugely popular among teens, whose idols like Jay-Z, Blink 182, Avril Lavigne, Ashlee Simpson, Big Boi, Simple Plan and Adam Brody ("The O.C.") are often photographed wearing them, Dickies' affordable new school apparel line is expected to make uniform compliance more appealing and easier on kids, parents and schools.

New for back to school 2005, girls and junior's staples like white blouses, khaki pants and navy skirts are available in a stretch twill for better fit and comfort, plus have a style edge that won't make Teacher loose her cool.

For example, Dickies khaki twill skirt is dressed up with a wide waist band that looks sassy with this season's favorite tie-back interlock top. The line also includes a twill kilt skort, an inverted pleated skirt, walking shorts, a long carpenter skirt, basic walking shorts, polo tops and flat-front pants.

"Design-wise, Dickies juniors are an apparel trifecta. They're hip enough for kids; they have value and durability for parents; and they meet most public school uniform guidelines," says Jon Ragsdale, Vice President of Marketing & Merchandising for Williamson-Dickie Mfg. Co.

For high school boys, Dickies makes the grade with a wide variety of pants (including the popular zip-off pants that quickly convert to shorts), shirts and jackets that they're already wearing to work and other activities. The only modification is that most schools require logo-free garments, so the classic Dickies logo is on the inside instead.

Dickies also offers a way to help ease funding crunches for cash-starved schools with the Dickies School Uniform Curriculum program. Participating schools earn points for each Dickies uniform purchase, which can be redeemed for educational materials, athletic equipment or free uniforms for low-income students, which schools are often required by law to provide.

Public school uniform programs starting making news decade ago, when the Long Beach Unified School District in California became the first urban district in the nation to adopt a mandatory school uniform program.

Since then, dozens of major school districts, including in cities like New York, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Miami, Chicago, Houston, Dallas, New Orleans, Memphis and Cleveland, have implemented similar programs consisting of basic solid color pants, skirts, skorts or walking shorts paired with white or other solid colored, collared tops.

"Our audience has grown up with Nick Cannon, from his days at Nickelodeon to his current status as a music and movie star," commented Tony DiSanto, Senior Vice President of Production Development & Animation for MTV. "With 'Wild'n Out,' they'll get to see a whole new side of Nick as he flexes his improv and sketch comedy skills alongside this great cast he helped assemble. We're thrilled to be in business with Nick, and to bring our viewers comedy and hip hop in a fresh new way."

In the premiere episode of the series, sketches include a fashion show with the improv teams offering hilarious style commentary as members of the audience are chosen to walk the "runway"; and each team captain playing a club bouncer trying to guess which celebs the other improv team members are impersonating -- and deciding whether to let them into a hot club. Guest stars include comedian Orlando Jones and rap legend Biz Markie, with a musical performance from Cassidy. As always, the show closes with the 2 teams locked in a freestyle rap battle to the DJ's beat, as points are awarded for every funny punch line.

"I created this show to be the desired destination for true fans of both comedy and hip hop," added Nick Cannon. "Wild'n Out has all of the elements of ground-breaking programming, in the same vein that In Living Color and Def Comedy Jam affected a generation. MTV is the perfect home for this program as they have become an institution for today's young tastemakers."

In addition to Cannon's involvement in every episode, artists like Kanye West, Ying Yang Twins, Common, and Christina Milian will stop by to participate or perform in each episode. Also, DJ D-Wrek, Nick Cannon's DJ, will be behind the 1's & 2's trying to keep the order - and keep the music pumping.

Tony DiSanto and Tony DiBari serve as MTV's Executive Producers for "Wild'n Out," and Karen Frank serves as Co-Executive Producer. Liz Gateley is the Development Executive. Rod Aissa is the Senior Vice President of Talent Development. Andrew Hoegl, Jonathon Singer and Michael Goldman also serve as Executive Producers. Nick Cannon is the creator and Executive Producer of "Wild'n Out."

Cannon was last seen in a cameo role alongside Jennifer Lopez & Richard Gere in the film Shall We Dance. On August 5, 2005, he will be seen starring in the feature story he created and also exec produced for Miramax titled The Underclassman. Later this Fall, Nick will be seen in FOX's romantic comedy Roll Bounce, which hits theatres September 23rd. Nick has also completed filming on the highly anticipated crime drama Even Money, starring opposite Kim Basinger, Danny De Vito, Ray Liotta and Forest Whitaker. Currently, Nick is lending his voice to the animated feature Monster House with Kevin James.

"G-Phoria" is the nation's original videogame award show that celebrates the year's top games, stars, music and trends that define the videogame lifestyle. Presented by EB Games, Jeep and Mountain Dew, "G-Phoria" will take place on Wednesday, July 27th at 7:00 PM PT at the Los Angeles Center Studios and will air Tuesday, August 9 at 8:00 PM ET/PT on G4.

More than 1,000 celebrity and VIP guests are expected to turn out to "G-Phoria" where they will play the year's hottest videogames and celebrate winners in categories ranging from "Favorite Character" to "Best Voice Performance." Over 25 new videogame titles will be playable to the public for the first time at the event, including a variety of games from Microsoft's next-generation console, Xbox 360(TM), launching this holiday season.

"G-Phoria" 2005 is being produced by Robb Wagner in conjunction with Dempsey Productions, Inc. A television veteran, this marks Wagner's third consecutive year producing "G-Phoria." Wagner's recent creative credits include the "77th Annual Academy Awards," "2004 MTV Video Music Awards" and "VH1 Big in '03."

"Pop culture icon Wilmer Valderrama is a true gamer and a talented performer who brings familiarity and credibility as host of "G-Phoria," a show that breaks the mold of traditional award shows," commented Wagner. "'G-Phoria' will be kinetic, fast paced and sweeping with a diversity of talent covering every corner of our spectacular outdoor venue."

"Our goal is to make 'G-Phoria' 2005 the hottest party of the summer with the best that videogames and Hollywood have to offer," said Green. "With the help of Robb's vision, "G-Phoria" will be as much fun to watch as it will be to attend."

Best known for his role as 'Fez' on the hit Fox series "That 70's Show," Valderrama is also active in feature film work and theater. He recently wrapped production on his starring role in the indie film "El Muerto," directed by Brian Cox and based on the successful comic book created by Javier Hernandez. Wilmer also has a supporting role in "The Darwin Awards," an independent film directed by Finn Taylor, starring Winona Ryder and Joseph Fiennes. Other feature film credits include "Party Monster," and the Warner Bros. film, "Summer Catch." In addition to acting, Wilmer is producing and hosting a new reality show for MTV called "Yo Mama's So Fat."

Grammy Award winners The Black Eyed Peas, who recently released their much anticipated fourth album "Monkey Business," have been garnering worldwide attention with their unique hip-hop sound since 1998. It was their third album, "Elephunk" and the addition of band member Fergie in 2003 that vaulted the band to a level of success unparalleled by any other hip-hop group. Now, with over 7.5 million albums sold, four Grammy nominations and one Grammy Award, The Black Eyed Peas bring their magnetic spirit to the 2005 "G-Phoria" audience.

New York-based electro rock group The Bravery, named "10 Artists to Watch" by Rolling Stone and Spin Magazine's "Next Big Things" for 2005, bring their synthesizer-laced rock music to "G-Phoria." The Bravery, who have been generating buzz with their hit single "Honest Mistake," recently released their acclaimed debut self-titled album in March, have been selling out shows and winning over hipsters and critics alike with their brand of melodic post-punk influenced dance-rock.

Nominees for "G-Phoria" are chosen by a panel of videogame industry experts. All eligible games have release dates that fall between March 31, 2004 and April 30, 2005. Fans will choose the "G-Phoria" winners by voting both online as well as by text message. To vote online and to see a complete list of all 2005 "G-Phoria" nominees, go to www.g4tv.com/g-phoria.

"G-Phoria" - The Mother of All Videogame Award Shows premieres Tuesday, August 9 at 8:00 PM ET/PT, with the pre-show broadcast starting at 7:30 PM ET/PT.

Write On Point announces media partnership with Phuturehypes Female MC / Rapping Finals Competition

London -- (ArriveNet - Jul 12, 2005) --UK based black music magazine Write On Point, today announced that it is to become a media partner for the second annual Phuturehype Female MC / Rapping Finals, set to take place in Londons East End on the 17th September 2005.

Founder / Editor-In-Chief of Write On Point, Janice Spence said I did not hesitate in saying yes when Denise (Phuturehypes Founder / CEO) approached me to become a media partner for this event. She is doing great things here in the UK to help promote unsigned female talent, and I am happy to support her cause.

Phuturehypes CEO, Denise Destini is now single handily taking on the male dominated world of hip hop, by organising the annual Female MC / Rapping Competition. When asked about her decision to take on such a task, she simply says I wanted to show that females can spit lyrics as well, and some times even better than males. I also wanted to give females an outlet to express their talent, especially those who had only ever performed in front of their bedroom mirrors.

The first competition took place in May 2004 and generated immense media attention. So much so, that the British weekend entertainment show T4 featured the finals in the documentary, Chancers which also featured Fat Man Scoop, Damon Dash and Wyclef.

Phuturehype has also helped to launch the career of last years runner up Lady Sovereign, who signed a four album deal with Universal / Island Records.

Media partner Write On Point, is an informative and dynamic online publication, dedicated to giving its visitors up to date news and information, from within the world of black entertainment on both sides of the Atlantic. It also aims to give maximum exposure to up-coming home grown UK talent, and information on showcases / events taking place throughout the year.

Hip-Hop, Rap, P-Funk artist Shock G aka Gregory E. Jacobs has announced he is retiring from music

Along with Chopmaster, Shock G formed the Digital Underground hip-hop and rap group with its unique sound in 1987.

(I-Newswire) - Hip-hop, rap, P-Funk artist Shock G aka Gregory E. Jacobs has announced he is retiring from music. Shock is also an accomplished artists and writer.

Along with Chopmaster, Shock G formed the Digital Underground hip-hop and rap group with its unique sound in 1987. The group was bizarre, funky and unique in the genre that was being dominated by hard core rappers and gangsta rap groups, but they flourished and survived.

Shock G had many alter egos, the most famous was Humpty Hump.
Being born on the east coast and finally settling in the Bay Area, Shock G has made an impact of the music industry worldwide.

One of his accomplishments was introducing the world to the late rap icon Tupac Shakur. Leila Steinberg became Tupac's first manager. Tupac formed the group Strictly dope with 5 other members including rap artist Ray Luv. Later Steinberg introduced Tupac to Shock-G of Digital Underground and Tupac traveled with the Digital Underground, and when Shock gave him his chance on Same Old Song the world of hip-hop and rap music would never be the same.

Shock G was on many of Tupacs songs. Some are I Get Around and F**k The World. Shock has worked with almost everybody, from hip-hops Richie Rich to funks George Clinton to pops Prince.

Shocks latest work is his Fear of a Mixed Planet CD. A great album and it stands as a testament of what the music world has lost with the announcement of Shock Gs retirement from the music field.

More recently Shock has been touring and he spoke at the Grand Opening of the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts in Stone Mountain, GA on June 11th.

Since this email from Shock was first posted in forums on the net, we wanted to wait and make sure it was in deed from Shock G and that the information was correct.

We have contacted Shock Gs people and it is confirmed that this is the way Shock G is feeling at the present. I am told he is fine and healthy and we wish Shock all the best in what ever he does. Our thoughts and prayers go with him and hopefully he will receive many blessing for all the blessing he has given all of us over the years. Shock is truly a legend and he will surely be missed in the studio.

Here is the statement from Shock G:
"I'm retiring from all forms of studio work and song writing."

THE PROJECT
Kenyan Hip-hop was initially regarded as a passing fad. Hip-hop was eagerly dismissed by the media outlets and the general public during its shallow inception in the early ninety's. Hip-hop today has firmly gained its roots in Kenya, while fusing its traditional music and drawing major influence from America. This fusion has led to a new entity-the birth of Genge Music.

Filming the documentary in Kenya,Producer/Director Michael Wanguhu, enjoyed collaborative efforts from top-notch Kenyan producers, and reigning hip-hop acts past and present, seeking to expose a culture
they have whole-heartedly embraced. The film is also punctuated with footage of engaging live concert events. HIP HOP COLONY richly ties key elements of hip hop, flexibility and talent which continue to increase its dominance around the World one colony at a time.

About Jermaine Dupri: Even before making hits with his own So So Def Records, the Atlanta-based rapper-producer-songwriter-record mogul was guiding the careers of the quadruple platinum Kris Kross. Dupri's success with Kris Kross set the stage for his groundbreaking work with Lil Bow Wow, Jagged Edge, Da Brat and Xscape on So So Def, as well as a host of work with such artists as Usher and Janet.

In 1998, Dupri branched out and released his debut album, Jermaine Dupri Presents Life In 1472. Chock full of hits such as "Money Ain't A Thang" and "The Party Continues," the collection went platinum and further buttressed Dupri's substantial musical legacy.

With his second album, Instructions, Dupri has crafted another sonic masterpiece, one that seems destined to rule the charts. He intends for the collection to serve as a glimpse into his long-running career as a top-tier record maker and world-class baller.

Dupri's boat has been moving at mach speed, as his So So Def Records has earned more than 20 gold and platinum certifications since emerging in the early 1990s. With a steady string of hits, Dupri and his company have established themselves as ground zero for artists seeking chart-topping hits in the fields of rap, R&B and bass.

Noted Hollywood Filmmaker Reginald Hudlin Joining BET as New President of Entertainment

Pioneer Brings Experience as Writer, Director and Producer to the Network

WASHINGTON, July 12 /PRNewswire/ -- BET President and CEO Debra L. Lee has made a strategic addition to her senior executive team, today announcing filmmaker Reginald Hudlin as President of Entertainment for BET. Hudlin joins the network immediately, and will divide time between BET programming and production hubs in Los Angeles and New York, and company headquarters in Washington. He becomes chief programming executive in charge of BET's music, entertainment, specials, sports, news and public affairs, film and program acquisitions, home entertainment and programming development units.

(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20050712/DCTU056 )

"At a time when original programming is a strategic priority for BET, I am thrilled to have one of Hollywood's brightest and most creative minds join us," said Lee, who was named as BET Founder Robert Johnson's successor last month after 20 years with the network. "Reginald joins us at a point when BET is celebrating its 25th anniversary; distribution is at an all-time high; and our viewership continues to grow. It's the ideal circumstance to which an executive with his track record can bring additional creativity and vision."

"There is no media property with greater growth potential than BET," said Hudlin. "I'm grateful for Debra, Bob and Tom's (Freston, Co-President and Co- Chief Operating Officer of Viacom) confidence in my ability to shape the creative future of the network. I look forward to working with them as we guide BET to the next step in its evolution with a wide range of original programming."

Hudlin is regarded as a pioneering and influential catalyst behind the modern Black film movement, exploding on the scene with older brother Warrington in 1990 with production of the comedy "House Party." His filmography also lists "Boomerang", "The Great White Hype", the first Black animated feature "Bebe's Kids" and "The Ladies Man" among his producer and directorial credits. Hudlin's most recent film, the Paramount Pictures romantic comedy "Serving Sarah" in 2002, featured former Friends star Matthew Perry, British actress Elizabeth Hurley and comedian Cedric "The Entertainer."

Hudlin's experiences have provided him the opportunity to work with other noted actors such as Chris Rock, Samuel L. Jackson, Eddie Murphy, Halle Berry, Will Ferrell, Jeff Goldblum, Bernie Mac, Martin Lawrence and Steve Harvey among others.

Television has already been fertile ground for Hudlin's knack for success, including "Cosmic Slop," an award-winning science fiction anthology for cable network HBO. Hudlin also won a BET Comedy Award in 2004 for his directing and producing work on Fox Network's The Bernie Mac Show. Prior to joining BET's executive ranks, Hudlin signed to direct Chris Rock's new sitcom Everybody Hates Chris for BET's Viacom-owned sister channel UPN. In addition, he will also serve as executive producer on the new animated adaptation of the edgy comic strip The Boondocks, which premieres on Cartoon Network in November.

A passion for comic books -- more than 50,000 in his private collection -- led Hudlin to write his own ground-breaking comic resurrection of the world's first Black superhero The Black Panther last February. This project led to the coveted job of writing the new Spider-Man comic book series for Marvel Comics. Also on his writer's dossier are the books Birth of a Nation, a comic novel penned in 2004 about Hudlin's hometown of East St. Louis, Illinois; and One Nation Under a Groove, based on the music and cosmic antics of funk musician George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic slated for release next year.

Hudlin comes to BET at a time when the network is riding high from the mega-success of the '05 BET AWARDS, which set an all-time network audience mark with 6.6 million viewers on June 28 to become cable television's #1 program for that week. Current BET signature shows like 106 & PARK: BET'S TOP 10 LIVE, BET BLACK-BUSTER CINEMA, COMICVIEW, BOBBY JONES GOSPEL and reality genre hit COLLEGE HILL are strong contributors to the network's recent ratings success.

New programming additions on BET's schedule for the Fall '05 season -- including a hard-knock reality series for business mogul "wanna-bes" starring hip-hop entrepreneur Damon Dash called ULITMATE HUSTLER -- will give Hudlin exciting tools in his new role. Also in the works at BET is a new physical body and inner spirit make-over show called REMIXED; and a revamped approach to news coverage that features hourly news briefs, issues-driven news specials, a weekend news magazine show and interactive news content delivery via BET.com.

The First Multi-Platform Digital Entertainment Company for Live Programming

NEW YORK, LOS ANGELES and WASHINGTON, July 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- In a groundbreaking joint venture that capitalizes on the huge potential of multi-platform live entertainment programming, AEG, a world-leading sports and entertainment presenter; America Online, the world's leading interactive services company; and XM Satellite Radio, the nation's leading provider of satellite radio, have joined with entertainment and technology veteran Kevin Wall to create Network Live, an AEG, AOL, XM company. Wall, who most recently served as Executive Producer of Live 8, is the Chief Executive Officer of the newly formed joint venture.

(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20000724/XMSATLOGO )

On the heels of the record-setting broadcasts of Live 8 by AOL and XM, and building on the success of the popular AOL(R) Music LIVE! series, Network Live will produce a rich slate of live programming focusing on music and comedy performances -- many originating from AEG owned or operated venues worldwide, such as STAPLES Center. The programming will be promoted to AOL's web audience of more than 100 million* and to more than 4.4 million XM Satellite Radio subscribers. The company will also leverage the expertise of AEG's live entertainment division, AEG LIVE, one of the world's leading concert promoters. Network Live programming will add to AOL and XM's own popular original franchises, such as AOL(R) Music Sessions, which has featured many top recording artists, and XM's Artist Confidential and Then...Again...Live!

"This is a network of the future, delivering digital programming to consumers who are hungry for live programming," said Kevin Wall, Co-Founder and CEO of Network Live. "We're thrilled to enter this market with the unique opportunity to immediately tap into AOL's vast audience, AEG's relationships with the most popular performers in the music industry, and XM's growing subscriber base. This will enable us to quickly establish the brand as the place where people can access and interact with live entertainment over digital platforms, guaranteeing the same excitement, energy and immediacy traditionally found when experiencing the event in person."

"This joint venture will produce an enormous variety of live, original entertainment programs," said Hugh Panero, President and CEO of XM Satellite Radio. "Live music has always been an essential part of the XM listening experience, and we look forward to producing more live content for XM, as well as an even broader audience working with AOL and AEG."

"Clearly, content has become a high priority for our company," said Timothy J. Leiweke, President & CEO, AEG. "As one of the largest content providers of live sports and entertainment, we are constantly exploring new modes of distribution as well as the technology and partnerships to help create the model. AOL and XM not only give us the right platform for distribution and future growth, like us, they understand the importance of managing content and its delivery -- which ultimately most benefits the consumer."

Leiweke added, "Our goal and ambition, and the goal and ambition of this new partnership is focused on the creation of a 24-hour platform for live entertainment 7 days a week/365 days a year. An ambitious vision but clearly a doable and realistic one due to the resources and expertise that each of the three organizations possess."

"As Live 8 proved, this is a new era for live entertainment on the web," said Jon Miller, Chairman & CEO of America Online, Inc. "This venture taps into the immediacy of the Internet for live shows and live shows on demand. Network Live will enhance the standout video programming lineup that we are now providing free on the web through the AOL.com portal."

AOL.com(R), the new free portal, is accessible to anyone on the web, making it possible for millions of non-AOL members to experience the breadth and depth of AOL's programming offerings for the first time. The Live 8 concert broadcasts and individual performances from Philadelphia, London, Rome, Paris, Berlin and Toronto are available now through September 5, on demand and in their entirety, at http://www.aolmusic.com/.

With a career spanning four decades, Kevin Wall, formerly Vice Chairman of iXL Enterprises, has been named to the post of Chief Executive Officer of Network Live. Mr. Wall's extensive experience in music promotion and production, live television, the Internet, and venture capital investments in convergence technologies have established him as a visionary who has consistently led the way in discovering new niches in entertainment. Mr. Wall has produced and/or distributed over 400 live events including Live 8, and has worked with such entertainment powerhouses as Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd and the Three Tenors, among many others.

CLSA Hosts International 5 City Event on Korean Culture ''The Korea Wave''

From Fad to Phenomenon, Asia's Coolest Country Drives up Domestic Consumer Confidence

LONDON and SEOUL, South Korea, July 12 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- Asia's leading brokerage house CLSA is hosting a 5-city international event starting today which showcases its new report CLSA's Korea Wave, a look at the explosion of Korean cultural exports in the past five years across Asia. The report has been written to help investors understand the impact of this cultural phenomenon and the investment opportunities within Korea and the region.

In this special report, CLSA's Korea Wave, expects the trends stemming from Korean entertainment cultural -- from TV dramas to action movies to hip hop boy bands and innovative online games -- to pose a tipping point in turning around a sustained period of low domestic confidence over the next three to five years.

While CLSA's Korea Wave provisions that the direct economic impact of the music, movies and melodramas that make up this phenomenon may be small relative to the Korean players, the collateral effects of Korea Wave champions and spokespeople are critically influential in spreading the image of Korea and its products. Of recent years, the Korean Wave has boosted tourism, increased interest in the country and granted Korean consumer-product manufacturers a catchy Korea-based platform from which to promote their products.

James Paterson, Head of CLSA's No.1-ranked Korea research team, said, ''The rising success of Korean cultural exports -- combined with the advance of domestic powerhouses like Samsung, Hyundai and LG -- will have two main impacts in Korea. First, it will bolster direct investment and capital expenditure. Second, the accelerated development of a domestic equity culture will drive a continued market rerating.''

He continued, ''This proliferation of interest in Korea could potentially have an effect on the spending habits of Asian households with Korea's hi-tech consumer products and brands."

Kicking off today in London, the CLSA's Korea Wave event will be held over the next 10 days in other cities New York, Boston, Hong Kong and Singapore. The Korean-inspired evening features three guest speakers: Martin Roll, author of ''Asian Brand Strategy'' and CEO of strategic branding advisory firm VentureRepublic; Jonathan Kim, Chairman of the Korean Motion Pictures Producers Association and President of Hanmac Films; and Max Minsuk Yang, CEO of YG Entertainment, Korea's largest and most influential music producer in the hip-hop and R&B genre.

''The Wave is sparking confidence in Korea and boosting Korean brands around the world. As the Wave continues to proliferate, the positive implications for corporate Korea will be sizeable,'' said David Cotterchio, CLSA's Korea Country Head.

Sizzling Atlanta Rap Star To Cook up Catchy Hip Hop Concoctions on Straight Out Da Pot Tour

After sizzling' the airwaves and marinating the streets with summer singles Go Sit Down and Nextel Chirp, Big Cat Record's rising hip hop star Maceo, will serve critics in Atlanta, New Orleans, Houston, New York, Miami, Charlotte and other select cities on his Straight Out Da Pot Tour in late July.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) July 11, 2005 --After sizzling' the airwaves and marinating the streets with summer singles Go Sit Down and Nextel Chirp, Big Cat Record's rising hip hop star Maceo, will serve critics in Atlanta, New Orleans, Houston, New York, Miami, Charlotte and other select cities on his Straight Out Da Pot Tour in late July.

The Big Cat Records release is hip hop gumbo with the right amount of heat and all the ingredients of a top-selling album. Dubbed the Omarion of Rap, attractive newcomer, 19-year old Maceo Barnes has already whipped up a batch of loyal female fans, yet holds down the fellas as he reps the eastside of A-Town, opening a window into the old soul of a young player.

Garnering extensive radio play from the Southeast's top stations, the LP's 1st release Go Sit Down is a fun club song that playfully orders obnoxious females to give him space and tells ALL dime-pieces to make themselves comfortable in the VIP section along with Maceo and his friends.

A young but serious artist, Maceo simmers with rhyme bravado on hits Buck Wit It and "I'm Sick. While his short-order humor and recipe for infectious catch-phrases is evident on the popular 2nd single Outta Here.

Although Straight Out Da Pot is a bona fide tribute to the Southern Rap genre with undeniable CRUNK-ABILITY, it also establishes Maceo's storytelling skills, diverse appeal and the LP's marketability on all coasts. Says Mel Breeden, Big Cat Records President.

The album's bounce, vast array of sounds, quality content and fresh production make it pleasing to any ear!

The early September release of Straight Out Da Pot will heat up the beach, street and poolside with new hip hop concoctions and that will serve as a year-round soundtrack to satisfy the even the most scrutinizing music palate.

MACEO BIOGRAPHY

Often times called the Motown of the South, the city of Atlanta has played an instrumental role in igniting todays southern rap explosion. Making party people move their feet for almost two decades with booty shake anthems from pioneers like DJ Smurf, Tag Team, and Success-N-Effect, the A-town has produced their own batch of underground kings as well as platinum-backed chart toppers like Outkast, Lil Jon, TI and Ludacris.

Following in the same footsteps of his hometown heroes is 19-year-old newcomer Maceo Barnes. Already sizzling down-south clubs and radio with his rowdy, angst-filled lead single "Go Sit Down," the baby faced game rhyme-spitter has quickly made a regional name for himself. Gearing up to set his own mark in the rap world with heavy radio play for the riot-inciting single, the emerging emcee proves that he is definitely on the fast track to superstardom with the September 2005 release of his Quick Flip/ Big Cat Records debut Straight Out Da Pot.

With a charming yet rugged demeanor, Maceo has appeal with both the young women and the streets. Clearly defining his lyrical prowess on the backbreaking second single "Outta Here," Maceo perfectly melds complex street commentary with thunderous 808 drums and snares. He puts chumps to shame while solidifying his own mainstay status in the rap game. On the semi-autobiographical testament "The Struggle," the chameleon-like rapper switches styles once again to gaze at the man in the mirror. Weaving sincere sentiments atop soulful, mid-tempo production, Maceo shares his experiences from surviving the trap to trapping in the vocal booth. "I got a unique sound," he explains. "But I'm more like T.I., Jadakiss and Jay-Z with how I how I come off the mind. I got a crunk side, but all of it is mixed. I give a little bit of everything."

Born the fourth of six children, Maceo was reared in eastside Atlanta's rugged Zone 6. Caught up dead in the middle of his family tree, he was raised by an older brother. Still just a baby himself, the young man with the wisdom of an old soul had two younger siblings to bring up himself. Because his pops was a no-show and his mother was battling a crack addiction, the youngsters were forced to fend for themselves and rarely saw either of their parents. "We really raised ourselves. My momma smoked, and my daddy did whatever he did," he remembers. "My brother Mario was the backbone of my family. My momma has got straight now. That was back then.

However, trouble always seems to follow the ghetto youth. After picking up the pieces and attempting to patch up their lives, the family was dealt another staggering setback. Maceo's brother was recently indicted for drug trafficking and is now awaiting trial in Dekalb County Jail. With his eyes squarely fixated on his goals of taking over rap, he never lets his bleak situation overpower him.

"People go through stuff like that everyday. It's plenty more people like me thats been through the same thing," he says. "I just tried to come up out of it. Im blessed with the talent to do something else besides messing up."

The talent was first tapped just two years ago when Quick Flip CEO Jermon Fats Tomlin heard the juvenile rhyme slinger freestyle with friends. Impressed by Maceo's impromptu performance on the mic, Jermon suggested that he take his craft more seriously and pursue a rap career. After months of convincing, the teenage verbal titan finally decided to give it a go and quickly learned the craft of building rhymes and creating records.

Since then, he has captivated the streets with two underground projects-Bussin On Them Vol. 1 and 2 which are only the beginning of a prosperous career. Despite his bleak past Maceo remains full of optimism. "Everybody else has capitalized out of Atlanta. Everyone gets their chance. I'm trying to capitalize to the fullest extent," Maceo expresses. "I done been through so much. I look at it like success must have been meant." True indeed.

Fusion Flash Concerts is a fresh, interactive take on the underground "flash mob" phenomenon. Flash mobs are instant gatherings of large groups of people who are notified via emails or text messages just prior to the event taking place, and simultaneously converge on a set location. In this case, fans will converge throughout the summer to see amazing live musical performances.

Starting today, music lovers nationwide can visit http://www.fusionflashconcerts.com/ or text "Go" to 35274 (Flash) on their mobile phones to register as an "Insider," to find out if their favorite artists will be performing at a park, club, pier or parking lot near them. Insiders receive up-to-the-minute e-mails as well as "Flash Alerts" (text messages) powered exclusively by Cingular, which reveal details on the artists, cities, venues and show times. Cingular Wireless subscribers receive added perks for registering, including early "Flash Alerts" and premier viewing area access at the concerts.

The Fusion Flash Concerts website also features exclusive video, a tour blog, concert reviews, a "mash-up" remix contest hosted by ACIDplanet.com, 10 music downloads provided by connect.com, and the chance to win prizes including an all-new 2006 Ford Fusion sedan, Sony consumer electronics and VIP access to the shows.

In addition, plans are in the works to release a compilation disk of participating artists in the Fusion Flash Concerts that will be available for sale exclusively at Target retail locations at the conclusion of the Fusion Flash Concerts series.

"We're really excited to get this summer-long party started in New York," said The Roots' ?uestlove. "With our music fusing together an audience of hip hop, rock, jazz and funk fans, we're a perfect fit for this one-of-a-kind concert series."

"There's a spontaneity factor unique to this concert series," said Jermaine Dupri, multi-platinum-selling solo artist, songwriter and producer. "The last minute release of show details and ongoing interaction with fans really builds energy and excitement."

Consumers can also visit http://www.fordvehicles.com/ to "fuse" their own photographs with other uploaded photos from music fans around the world, to create an entirely new, standalone image.

Ford Motor Company is sponsoring Fusion Flash Concerts in a grassroots effort to amplify the street buzz surrounding the debut of its much- anticipated 2006 Fusion sedan this Fall.

"This is all about challenging people to break free from their reality TV shows and office cubes, and inviting them to come out and play with us," offered Marty Collins, General Marketing Manager, Ford Division. "We're committed to building trusted, lasting relationships with music lovers over time vs. 'marketing to' them," he added.

Gospel Music Channel today announced audition and programming details for "Gospel Dream 2005," the newest addition to its line-up of inspirational and entertaining programming. The announcement was made today by Charles Humbard, president and CEO and Brad Siegel, vice chairman of Gospel Music Channel, the nation's only 24/7 cable television network dedicated to all styles of gospel music.

"Gospel Dream 2005" will reach out to a broad audience of gospel music fans, bringing performers from all over the U.S. and from all gospel styles - including traditional and contemporary soul, pop, rock, and R&B - to compete for a chance to be signed by a major label. Created and executive produced by Elvin Ross, CEO of SONHO Entertainment, "Gospel Dream" will showcase the best in emerging gospel music talent with auditions in seven cities, culminating in a semi-final round and season finale that will both be held in Atlanta, GA. Beginning in August, auditions will take place in the following markets: Atlanta (August 12-13), Dallas/Fort Worth (August 19-20), New Orleans (August 26-27), St. Louis (September 9-10), Chicago (September 16-17), Detroit (September 23-24) and Memphis (September 30-October 1). These auditions will air exclusively on Gospel Music Channel beginning October 5 at 8 p.m. Eastern, with weekly episodes leading up to the November 30 semi-finals and December 1 finale. On November 23, Gospel Music Channel will televise a marathon, recapping the entire season thus far.

Registration for the talent search will take place online at www.gospelmusicchannel.com. Organizers are expecting hundreds of applicants at each event, and in order to ensure orderly registration, the first 200 registrants in each market will be guaranteed an audition.

The show will be hosted by Jonathan Slocumb, famous for bringing clean, cutting-edge stand-up comedy to venues ranging from a recurring role on "The Steve Harvey Show," to appearances on "Def Comedy Jam" and as an opening act for gospel greats such as The Winans, Kirk Franklin, Aretha Franklin, Take 6 and others. Each episode of "Gospel Dream 2005" will feature Slocumb, as well as three national judges from the music industry: R&B singer/songwriter Kelly Price, whose recordings regularly go platinum, freelance writer/music critic Andy Argyrakis, and Max Siegel, president of Zomba Gospel and senior VP of the Zomba Label Group. These three, along with local judges that will include gospel and Christian radio personalities from each market, will narrow each audition down to three contestants, who will then go to Atlanta to compete in the semi-finals. The 21 semi-finalists will be narrowed down to ten, with the "Gospel Dream 2005" winner being revealed in the season finale.

"'Gospel Dream' offers these talented performers a chance to gain national recognition with fans around the country," said Mr. Humbard. "This entertaining, inspirational series will connect with our viewers on many levels, and we look forward to having this show as an anchor to our fall 2005 primetime line-up."

To capture the excitement of this national event, Tangible Vision (www.tangiblevision.com) has been hired to produce "Gospel Dream." This award-winning film and video production company has produced over 250 hours of national programming to date, including "CMT Outlaws: The Dirty Dozen, with Dennis Hopper," "CMT 100 Greatest Songs of Country Music," and bio-documentary series "Inside Fame."

Gospel Music Channel is establishing a multi-platform marketing initiative to support the show. This initiative will include marketing partnerships with local radio stations and churches, advertising spots during Gospel Music Channel's primetime line-up, a direct mail campaign, and a strategic local and national public relations campaign.

The company has reached a Foundation Marketing Partnership agreement with The Ford Division of Ford Motor Company. As part of this agreement, Ford will be the lead sponsor and exclusive automotive advertiser for "Gospel Dream," and will have a presence during the program's auditions in seven U.S. markets, as well as the Atlanta-based semi-finals and season finale. This will include integration of a Ford vehicle into the programming, with additional opportunities to be announced at a later date. Also part of Ford's Foundation Marketing Partnership with Gospel Music Channel, the company will be the exclusive automotive advertiser for the cable network's Wednesday night programming which features Soul Gospel from 7 to 11 p.m. ET.

"Ford has shown a strong commitment to the future of Gospel Music Channel and understands the power of gospel music's passionate and loyal fanbase," stated David G. Baker, Gospel Music Channel's vice president of national advertising sales.

Additionally, Gospel Music Channel has announced that Black Radiance will be the official, exclusive cosmetics sponsor of "Gospel Dream 2005." As part of this deal, female contestants that make it to the semifinals will receive makeovers prior to their performances. Footage from these makeovers will be integrated into the final episodes, advertising spots will run during the program, and Black Radiance will have a presence on Gospel Music Channel's Web site.

"We are delighted to partner with Gospel Music Channel as the exclusive cosmetics sponsor for this year's Gospel Dream competition," said Shawn Haynes, senior vice president, marketing for Markwins (owners of Black Radiance cosmetics). "Black Radiance is proud to be able to help the semifinalists put their best face forward as they compete to make their gospel dreams come true."
