Deal Will Enhance Programming and Syndication Opportunities for REACH Media Inc.

As of January 1, 2006, REACH Media Inc. and Radio One will be solely responsible for syndication of Parr's weekend radio show, On the Air with Russ Parr. THINKfilm Makes 'Awesome' Acquisition

First Feature Film Creation for Beastie Boys

NEW YORK, Nov. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- THINKFilm has acquired all worldwide rights to AWESOME; I F**KIN' SHOT THAT, a cinematic celebration of the hugely popular music group Beastie Boys, it was announced by President and CEO Jeff Sackman. A formally innovative feature film experience, it was directed by Nathaniel Hornblower (a.k.a. "M.C.A," a.k.a. band member Adam Yauch) and produced by Hornblower and Jon Doran. THINK plans to open the recently-completed film in Spring, 2006 following significant festival presentations early next year.

On October 9, 2004, the Beastie Boys handed out 50 cameras to audience members at their sold-out performance in New York's famed Madison Square Garden. These 50 different passionate perspectives shot from the point-of-view of the audience take the viewer deep inside the world of a live Beastie Boys show, prismatically and kinetically capturing the experience of a live musical performance like no film has ever done.

"'Awesome' is the only word that can describe the experience of watching this film," says THINK theatrical division head Mark Urman. "It's totally modern and witty aesthetically, but also fabulous to watch and listen to." The first white rap group of any significance, The Beastie Boys have enjoyed two decades of top-of-the-charts success since their 1986 album "License to Ill" and its hit single, "Fight for Your Right," catapulted them to international acclaim and fame. Their last three albums ("Ill Communication," "Hello Nasty," and "To the 5 Boroughs") were best-sellers, each reaching #1 on the American Album charts. Their latest, "Solid Gold Hits," a compendium of career highlights is about to be released by Capitol Records. In 2000 A two-disc video set with many of the band's videos -- most directed by Hornblower/Yauch -- was created by Yauch and released by The Criterion Collection. It remains the only music-video anthology released by the noted archival brand. The most unique feature of the DVD is the ability to switch audio tracks and video angles in any number of combinations. Yauch intends to author similar features on the AWESOME DVD, which THINK will release next summer.

Beastie Boys Mike D (Michael Diamond) and Adrock (Adam Horovitz), star in AWESOME along with Yauch and guests. The film was photographed, as Yauch says, by "a bunch of untrained camera operators. But that gives the film sincerity. The people that shot it, were feeling it."

Breaking New Ground in Internships Sophist Productions Present Sophist Label Launch

Internship educating College students in music business begins its second semester.

(PRWEB) November 2, 2005 -- When the Sophist Label Launch Internship Program began in Spring 2005, Sophist Productions CEO Reed Baker could not predict the wild success of the program. Ten interns participated in the first internship program, mostly in the New York City area, yet this Fall semester the program jumped to 25 interns in 14 states.

The goal of the Sophist Label Launch is to supply college students with the know-how, support and real-world opportunities needed to launch a record label and release an album in an environment congruent to the city, state or even nation as a whole. The program condenses all the major movements a label goes through in order to release its first project, Baker explains.

Students hit their home campuses hard securing campus radio and newspaper coverage of Sophist events, setting up and managing contact lists to disseminate Sophist happenings and distributing merchandise such as the clever Get your REED on bookmarks. Students are encouraged to set up listening parties and attempt to book members of Sophist Productions at a campus event to interact with students. Skills covered include public relations, marketing, radio promotion, mobile marketing, event planning, and retail promotion.

Candidates are selected from all colleges and universities and there is no major requirement to participate in the program. Internships should not require experience since the primary purpose of such programs is to give an interested participant a foot in the door. All candidates need are a strong interest in the music business - we teach everything else, said Internship Coordinator Danielle Culmone.

Since participating in the program, Sophist Intern Peter Brunwasser, a Communications and Media Arts major at Rockland Community College, has gone on to manage his own hip hop artists as well as found the first hip hop music club on his campus. Why Black Business Must Rebuild New Orleans

November's BLACK ENTERPRISE Examines the Devastating Impact of Hurricane Katrina on Black Businesses and How to Save Them

NEW YORK, Oct. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- One of the biggest casualties of Hurricane Katrina has been black business. In the November BLACK ENTERPRISE special report "Blown Away By Katrina," Features Editor Alan Hughes found that approximately 60,000 black-owned companies along the Gulf Coast had been ravaged by the hurricane. The impact on black businesses in the gulf region will be "dire," says Eugene Cornelius Jr., district director for Louisiana Office, U.S. Small Business Administration. The immediate effects are obvious: the instant devastation of businesses and the complete loss of markets. In Mississippi alone, more than 2,000 black-owned businesses generating sales and receipts of $126 million were severely affected. In Louisiana some 20,000 black companies that generated nearly $866 million were impacted by the storm. In total, black-owned businesses in the region, formerly generating $3.3 billion a year, could be irretrievably lost.

Although rebuilding New Orleans should give the economy a boost, the question at hand for black entrepreneurs is whether African American businesses will get a shot at the billions in reconstruction contracts. "By late September, minority business owners across the Gulf Coast claimed they were being shut out of the rebuilding process and that contracts were being doled out to white business owners who had longstanding connections with federal officials," says Hughes. "Also posing a challenge to business owners is that there are few black enterprises of scale that can handle such daunting projects. It's the proverbial catch 22; black-owned firms need to be large enough to handle these projects but need the business to get to that scale."

President George W. Bush addressed some of the black business community's concerns in his Sept. 15 address to the nation. "What wasn't mentioned were contracting opportunities which would grow black business and in turn, increase the number of black employees and generate higher average incomes in a city that has long been plagued by poverty and crime," says Hughes. "With rebuilding costs estimated at well over $100 billion, African American business participation could provide the stimulus needed to create jobs and bring some of the displaced African American city residents back home. But that's only if the black community is included when contract recipients are decided."

Alden McDonald, president & CEO of New Orleans-based Liberty Bank & Trust Company, who was recently named to the rebuilding commission formed by Mayor C. Ray Nagin (eight blacks and eight whites sit on the 16-member board), is optimistic. "We have our work cut out for us, but black folks have never had it easy. We've always had to work as if there was a Depression." The SBA's Cornelius is also optimistic about opportunities for black business. "I can assure you that we're going to rebuild New Orleans ... and we're going to have good and solid representation of African Americans in those rebuilding efforts."

"Many questions remain regarding the fate of black business in the hurricane affected region," says Hughes. "But without significant representation in the rebuilding process these businesses and the jobs they create will be swept away."

Snoop Dogg, Bow Wow, Parliament Funkadelic featuring George Clinton and Bootsy Collins rocked the house with songs from the roller-skating era to the present in a funk-inspired old school/new school pairing. New Edition -- joined by former member Bobby Brown in a well-received national television performance comeback -- had the crowd reminiscing of the "Candy Girl," days, and Alicia Keys crooned some of the hits that made her an award- winning superstar.

Hip hop soul diva Mary J. Blige joined Method Man in a rare performance of their classic hit duet "You're All I Need," and also world-premiered a performance of her song "Can't Hide From Love." LL Cool J "Rocked The Bells" from the 80's to the present with a hard-hitting set backed by break dancers, and of course, it wouldn't be a BET celebration without singing the praises of gospel music. The gospel medley featured Yolanda Adams, Pastor Shirley Caesar, Kirk Franklin, Donnie McClurkin and our very own Dr. Bobby Jones. By the time Nelly blazed the stage accompanied by Jermaine Dupri, Big Gipp, Paul Wall and Ali in a Dirty South-flavored, bling-laced collaboration of his world premiere single "Grillz," the show was a lock as THE hot topic for 'morning- after' water cooler conversation.

Baltimore, Maryland (10/26/05) - SYNERGY Media Liaison and Baltimore Hip Hop Lives chairwoman, Courtney Love Wheeler is inviting music lovers to join her for SYNERGY. . .And it Don't Stop, Baltimores annual Hip Hop history commemoration celebration. The event will bring together the community from all walks of life to celebrate the true essence and excitement of what Hip Hop was meant to be. The event will take place on Thursday, November 17, 2005 at the 5 Seasons Restaurant and Lounge located at 830 N. Guilford Ave. This years event marks 31 years of Hip Hop and the 2nd year of this annual Hip Hop extravaganza.

For 2005, Baltimore Hip Hop Lives has chosen the theme, And it Dont Stop! At 31 one years young, Hip Hops reach is global. With Hip Hop making its mark in the most unimaginable places during the last few years, it would appear that America has embraced this culture that continues to evolve and morph into new variations daily. This years star-studded lineup of Baltimores very best musical entertainers includes-- Skarr Akbar, E the poet emcee, Plague Up, Sonny Brown, Third Kind and B. Fly of Brown F.I.S.H. Ogun of Real on Purpose Entertainment and the ladies of Rah Energy Promotions will host the festivities.

Hip Hop is not a genre of music; it is a culture. It is a way of life for those that identify with the music, dance, style, writing, etc.the voice. It is the voice of a generation who refused to be ignored because they lack the resources of one that is typically afforded a platform in America. November is a significant month for Hip Hop lovers across the globe. The pioneers, including Africa Bambataa and the Zulu Nation, ask that Hip Hoppers across the world recognize November 12, 1974 as a day of distinction and pay tribute to those who laid the foundation for this revolutionary genre.

DJ's were part of the heart and soulof Hip Hop during its inception. Hip Hop started not with the MCs but rather with the DJ. The DJ essentially was the Master Of Ceremonies; he was the MC. In recognition of this, 2 of Baltimores premier DJs, P-Funk of the Elements Party/Style Warz and WEAA 88.9 Strictly Hip Hop and Baltimore City Papers Reader Poll Best Club DJ 2005 award recipient, Lil Mic, were enlisted to provide the perfect soundtrack for the event. This event is for people that remember when Hip Hop was fun, adds Wheeler. The party is about celebrating our love and admiration for the culture.

Hip Hop Musician Claims Trademark Theft By Twista. The idea of "Chi-Roc Entertainment" doesn't sit well with Faheem Shabazz, a hip-hop artist/ executive producer who goes by the name of "BigFa". So when the Atlantic Recording artist called "Twista" started promoting his own music using the Chi-Rock name, Faheem wanted to let others know about it.

(PRWEB) October 29, 2005 -- The idea of "Chi-Roc Entertainment" doesn't sit well with Faheem Shabazz, a hip-hop artist/ executive producer who goes by the name of "BigFa".

Faheem has been a part of the "Chi-Roc Hip Hop Nation" since he and some of his friends formed the organization back in 1985 on the far south side of Chicago. Twenty years later at age 37 he now serves as the group's president.

So when the Atlantic Recording artist called "Twista" started promoting his own music using the Chi-Rock name, Faheem wanted to let others know about it.

"I am the owner of the registered corporation "Chi-Rock" and also "Chi-Roc", which is documented by the Illinois Secretary of State," Faheem says. "This 'TWISTA' is tainting our legacy. My independent record company is called Chi-Rock Records."

Philip Swint aka "Pacman", who is an original member says the rapper "also has had past affiliation with our hip-hop nation to gain notoriety and cannot say that he didn't know that we existed."

"We've worked hard to build our treasured name. We're especially proud of the image we've cultivated as positive role models in the hip-hop community," Faheem says.

MTV Networks Names Billy Dexter as Chief Diversity Officer
