CHINO XL TO DELIVER "POISON PEN," ISSUES STATEMENT ABOUT THE YEAR TO COME

Hiphop legend Chino XL is slated to finally release his long-awaited Poison Pen album on January 31. The noteworthy, highly inspired, two-disc set has been in the works now for almost two years, during which time, Chino says he has sifted through offers that have been made to him by those including Dr. Dre at his Aftermath label, and from members of G-Unit. Chinos Poison Pen release is comprised of 18 tracks (including 2 bonus tracks), featuring special collaborations with Killah Priest (Wu Tang), the Beatnuts, Proof of Eminems group D-12, and other featured special guests. The two-CD package is available in a Limited Edition Silver Metallic Foil Cover, enhanced with extras that include a music video and two hidden bonus tracks (including the dramatic buzz track Nunca), each one personally autographed with a silver poison pen by Chino XL, himself. A special link is included in the album, wherein CD purchasers may insert their disc in their computer drive, upon which they will receive more extras that surround Chinos sometimes controversial lyrics that are quite often the subject of discussion by hiphop fans. The second disc is a Special DJ MIX version of the album by L.A.s Power 106 Mr. Choc, in which Chino also recounts stories behind the making of the tracks, and the soul searching he did when recording this introspective new album. This is me at my most honest, most heartfelt and most uncompromising when it comes to whats on my mind, says Chino.

Despite the offers he has received from major labels, the New Jersey born Chino says he is proud to be free and independent, and that was a major consideration when releasing the album, which is being released by the Activate label. Poison Pen is a passionately made artistic statement from Chino, who says he refused to be subjected to any outside censorship or control by major label execs. We gave Chino a budget, and let him do his thing, says Jay Warsinske, Activate label head who is releasing the album worldwide. Warsinske adds, Chino delivered an unfiltered, mindbending stream of consciousness statement built on strong songs and hooks.

Comprised of all new songs from Chino, this dramatic, undiluted and daringly bold, essential album includes Wordsmith, Beastin (featuring Killah Priest), which was produced by Carlos Bess, the soon-to-be-neo-classic Even If It Kills Me (about the perils of the rap lifestyle, produced by One Eye (Ice Cube, Ruff Ryders), Dont Fail Me Now (featuring Psycho Les of the Beatnuts, Sin Gutta, produced by Byrd), Cant Change Me, and the leadoff track, All I Wanna Do(Bout Nothin). The limited edition signed collectors package is limited to the first run and will be available January 31, 2006.

Chino says, "I hope that in the New Year, hiphop will regain a certain amount of integrity in the current overly corporate state of affairs. Hopefully, we will be able to focus on the artistry again. The machine should not be larger than the architects who create the music."

Additional background, including booking information on Chino XLs upcoming Poison Pen Tour is available at http://www.chinoxlpoisonpen.com.

The Top 10 Ringtones of All Time

The Cool Ringtones Blog reports on the Top 10 Ringtones of all time.

by Jonathan Bentz
Associate Editor
Cool Ringtones Blog (www.coolringtones.blogspot.com)

Morgantown, West Virginia. (PRWEB) December 21, 2005 -- If you want to stand out in a crowd, the ringtone you choose can be a big step in the right direction.

So you want a great ringtone, but have no idea what makes one great? Follow the advice below and learn where the bar has been raised by the top 10 list below, dubbed the first class of the ringtone Hall of Fame.

Separating great ringtones from the rest of the bunch requires a series of judging criteria. First and foremost, a great ringtone must come from a great song. While it is possible for great songs to yield disappointing ringtones, the opposite is impossible. The ringtone must also be easily recognizable to many people. Everyone wants that ringtone that makes people smile and say, I love that song when your phone rings.

From a musical standpoint, the ringtone must be created from one of three song portions: the intro, the hook, or the solo. The success of these three parts to the musical equation are make or break for hit songs, making them essential to the success of a ringtone. Because of the technology format, songs that make great ringtones also need to have simple layers. Songs with dueling drums or guitars cause a ringtone to sound cluttered, making it difficult to identify by ear. The intros to songs like Stairway to Heaven and A Thousand Miles make great ringtones because they are catchy and easy on the ear.

In addition to coming from a particular section of a song, great ringtones must also feature a strong, repetitious percussion line. Whether that persistent pulse comes from the bass line of Drop It Like Its Hot or from the synthesizers in Take On Me, the ability for many people to recognize a specific song comes from that repetition.

While the final keystones are being cemented into the ringtone shrine, here are the first ten inductees into the Ringtone Hall of Fame:

1. In Da Club 50 Cent
Besides being Billboards inaugural Ringtone of the Year in 2004, 50s first #1 hit has a bass line built for making heads bob. The strings section adds suspense to the song and puts high notes on top of the gutter base line. Having In Da Club as a ringtone means the party is never farther away than your phone.

2. Stairway to Heaven Led Zeppelin
The calming woodwind that accompanies Pages slow guitar picking makes for rock and ringtone heaven on earth. Several portions of this song have been made into ringtones, but the tone depicting the songs introduction is truly a classic.

3. Sweet Home Alabama Lynyrd Skynyrd
Music fans of all ages get a smile on their face at the first sound of this southern-rock classic. Change a partys atmosphere from get together to jamboree by a simple ring-ring. The MP3 version is a required tone for country and classic rock fans.

4. Super Mario Brothers Game Theme
The essential ringtone for gamers. The polyphonic tone is an exact replication of the track from 16-bit Nintendo.

5. Halloween Movie Theme
Perfect custom tone for friends named Michael Myers. One of the most popular ringtones of all time that can outsell pop hits year round.

6. The Next Episode - Dr. Dre
While many hip-hop ringtones sound poor due to the overuse of dull bass lines, The Next Episode features thumping bass and a pulsating G-funk guitar lick, creating the bench mark for multi layered ringtones.

7. Mission Impossible Theme Song
Another incredibly popular ringtone despite its age that will only get more popular as the third installment of the movie franchise begins filming. Perfect as a custom tone for those over-demanding bosses in the workplace.

8. Sandstorm DaRude
Like Super Mario Brothers, a distinct song replica is created by the polyphonic ringtone. A must for fans of techno music and another, sure fire, party-starter tone.

9. Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Theme Song
The only hip-hop song your father can rap over is one of the most recognizable ringtones available. The beat is so contagious that setting it as your default ringer in a public place will cause a room to begin rhyming along as if they were Will Smith.

10. The Jetsons Theme Song
While the Jetsons had a lot of great things in their future world, one thing they dont have is their own song as a phone ringer. We dont have flying automobiles yet, but show off the evolution of cell phone technology with the upbeat polyphonic ditty.

Getting ringtones for your cell phone from websites like MonsterTones (http://www.monstertones.com) or Ringing Phone (http://www.ringingphone.com) has become one of the hottest ways to set yourself apart on todays scene. Any of these ten ringtones will do the trick.

AOL(R) Music Unveils Next Round of Hot New Artists as This Season's Breakers

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 19, 2005--
Six Up-and-Comers, Ranging from Socially Conscious Rapper to Country Singer/Songwriter, Named to Groundbreaking, Online Artist Discovery Program

AOL(R) Music has placed its bets on the new artists poised to make the most noise in 2006 by naming six developing acts to showcase through its innovative Breakers program, which appeals to a vast audience of dedicated music fans on AOL Music (http://www.aolmusic.com).

This season's Breaker artists include Country singer/songwriter Jace Everett, songwriter/performer Ne-Yo, socially conscious rapper/songwriter Rhymefest, Country girl-next-door, and star of AOL Music's "This is Shannon Brown" online reality series, Shannon Brown; singer/songwriter Teddy Geiger; and revered underground rockers Thrice. These artists and their music will be featured in high-profile campaigns, normally reserved for more established hit makers, on aolmusic.com and across the AOL Music and Radio Networks.

The latest round of Breakers builds upon AOL Music's legacy of successfully showcasing emerging artists, including three of this year's Grammy nominees for Best New Artist - John Legend, Sugarland and Fall Out Boy - to mainstream audiences early in their careers. The Chicago alt-rockers Fall Out Boy are the program's latest success story, with their music garnering nearly 7.4 million on-demand plays in 21 weeks, and attracting an audience of over 2.3 million listeners through AOL Radio alone since being named Breakers in June.

"It's been an amazing year, and we really appreciate having the support of AOL Music," said Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy. "Being a part of Breakers has exposed us to millions of new people online."

"We're excited to be able to announce such a strong lineup of artists to the Breakers program," said Jack Isquith, Executive Director of Music Industry Relations for AOL Music. "Music discovery is at the heart of every thing we do, and each one of these acts truly represents new, original music at its very best, across genres."

AOL Music newly named Breakers are:

Rhymefest (J Records/Allido Records): Rhymefest is a mainstay on the Underground and Mixtape circuit and won a Grammy for co-writing Kanye West's smash "Jesus Walks." Hailing from Chicago, and utilizing a powerful blend of music and message, he delivers one of the freshest voices and provocative points of view in Hip-Hop. Rhymefest's forthcoming album, Blue Collar, is heavy on both style and substance, and features guest turns from hip-hop heavyweights Kanye West, Twista, Common, Q-Tip and the late O.D.B.

Thrice (Island): The Orange County, California band is one of America's most revered underground rock acts. Having cultivated a dedicated fanbase and achieved over 125,000 "friends" on MySpace, Thrice is primed to break into the mainstream. With Vheissu, currently in stores, AOL Music declares that Thrice has delivered the rock record of the year.

Jace Everett (Sony Nashville): Country's new bad boy has rich baritone voice, model looks and unconventional worldly perspective that's unique for the genre. Born in the heartland, Everett found his passion in Texas and has experience more in his 32 years than most people do in a lifetime. He's a father, a divorcee, a former hardcore fundamentalist Christian who once pursued life as an evangelist and an expatriate whose gigs across Europe won the hearts of fans in France and Italy. Luckily, his travels landed him back in Nashville, where he weaves his sophisticated brand of Country, Blues and Rock for American audiences. His self-titled debut is currently available digitally, and will be available in physical formats in February.

Teddy Geiger (Columbia): At 17, Teddy is already writing sophisticated songs weathered with insights beyond his years. A fan of many musical genres, Teddy combines cutting edge new school pop with a love and an understanding of the soul of rock's glory days. His warm intimate vocals, candid and conversational, create a sound and sensibility uniquely his own. He plays guitar, piano, bass and drums on his new album, Underage Thinking, set to hit shelves this spring. With a rapidly growing fanbase and a featured role on the upcoming CBS series, Love Monkey, Teddy Geiger's grassroots buzz is becoming a roar.

Ne-Yo (Def Jam): Born in Arkansas, and raised in Las Vegas, NV, this versatile young performer sings and dances with theatrical flair. But separating Ne-Yo from his contemporaries are his exceptional abilities as a songwriter, penning songs for such artists as Mary J. Blige, B2K, Faith Evans, and Musiq, as well as Mario's number 1 hit, and Billboard Award winning song, "Let Me Love You." With sample-free production and gift for storytelling, Ne-Yo creates a unique sound and sentiment for his records. His anticipated solo debut, In My Own Words, is planned for release on February 28.

Shannon Brown (Warner Nashville): This Spirit Lake, Iowa native has powerful vocals and a rebellious attitude that belie her all-American, girl-next-door looks. With rockers "Corn Fed" and "Big Man" and ballads like "Turn to Me," Brown brings a new voice to country music. AOL Music has already been following her path to the big time with its exclusive Web series "This is Shannon Brown," which was recently named the most innovative artist launch of the year by Billboard Radio Monitor. Brown's debut album, Corn Fed, is scheduled for release on February 28.

This bill has got much attention among, not only those in the hip-hop culture and among the fans of the late rap icon Tupac Shakur but also among a lot of the nation.

Congresswoman McKinney takes time to explain how this bill will work and how people can participate in the passing of the bill in her Tupac Shakur Legislative Primer.

Chi-Rock Defeats Twista In Trademark Dispute

The trademark dispute between Carl Mitchell, the Atlantic recording artist known as "Twista" and Southside Chicago musician Faheem Shabazz (BigFa) was resolved over who has the use of the "Chi-Rock" name.

(PRWEB) December 20, 2005 -- The trademark dispute between Carl Mitchell, the Atlantic recording artist known as "Twista" and Southside Chicago musician Faheem Shabazz (BigFa) was resolved over who has the use of the "Chi-Rock" name.

In a letter from Twista's New York attorney, David Gold, the musician agreed to abandon any claims to the Chi-Rock name.

Chi-Roc is a shortened form of Chicago Rocks Shabazz uses on his two websites, www.bigfa.com and www.officialchi-rocknation.com

In his Dec, 7 letter, Gold wrote, "Please be advised that our client has not released any products under the 'Chi-Roc' mark, Chi-Roc Entertainment has already been dissolved and the registration of the URL 'Chi-Roc.com' has expired. We are in the process of abandoning the trademark application."

"I hope the world can see the truth now that we've won the battle," Faheem said, describing himself as "a happy man".

"He can't use the term "Chi-Rock" ever again without being sued. There were a lot of angry Chi-Rock members that are now ready to celebrate our victory. I wasn't after his money or fame even though I was bashed by his supporters in the streets, in news articles and on the internet as being a liar and an opportunist," says Faheem, who is also president of the Chi-Rock Nation.

Faheem claimed victory in a war that was for him an uphill battle: "I found out that it's hard to win against a "star" because the media most often sways their way."

He said many Chicago area radio stations sided with Twista.

In a statement, Faheem thanked those stations and news affiliates who endorsed him: "Chi-Rock Records would like to thank WGCI, Power 92.3, WKKC, WNUR, WHPK, B96, The 'Red Eye' Newspaper, Sun-Times, BET.com, Thuglife Army, Sohh, Allhiphop.com, The Chicagoist and various other media groups for giving a voice To The voiceless."

Faheem is taking his lessons learned to the recording studio. He says he plans to issue a CD "aimed at the fake gangstas in the rap industry featuring Chicago's upcoming rap star, "H20" [the water]"

A federal trademark application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office was filed by Faheem under United States Trademark Serial Application No. 78/751,401 for the mark CHI-ROCK.

Jamster and Warner Music Group Expand Relationship with Commercial Featuring Hip Hop Superstar

Sean 'Diddy' Combs First A-List Celebrity and Label CEO to Record Ringtone Commercial Voiceover - for The Notorius B.I.G. Mobile Music Products

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. and NEW YORK, Dec. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Jamster, a worldwide leader in mobile content and entertainment services and a wholly owned subsidiary of VeriSign, Inc. (NASDAQ:VRSN) , today announced that Sean "Diddy" Combs, founder and CEO of Bad Boy Worldwide Entertainment Group, is featured in a new commercial promoting Jamster-exclusive ringtones created from master recordings in The Notorious B.I.G. catalog. The Notorious B.I.G.'s latest album from Bad Boy Records, The Notorious B.I.G. Duets: The Final Chapter, hits music stores today. Bad Boy Records is a joint venture with Warner Music Group (NYSE:WMG) .

Jamster has successfully worked with WMG for close to a year. Jamster has distribution rights to WMG's mobile personalization products catalog, which allows it to offer consumers ringtones and screensavers by WMG's world- renowned roster of artists.

Earlier this year, WMG's Warner Bros. Records worked with Jamster to provide consumers with early access to Asylum Records/Warner Bros. Records rap artist Mike Jones' Top Five debut album by taking advantage of the popularity of ringtones. Together they created the first artist-endorsed Jamster ringtone commercial in the Americas. A band on WMG's Asylum Records, D4L, created a ringtone called 'Laffy Taffy' earlier this year that has topped the Jamster Top 40 Ringtones chart for nearly three months.

"This relationship with a diverse, global content aggregator like Jamster allows Warner Music Group to literally put our music-based content in the hands of mobile phone users around the world," said Kevin Liles, Executive Vice President, Warner Music Group. "As the mobile phone becomes an increasingly important way for consumers to get their favorite music and entertainment, we're excited to be the first major music company to help fans connect to music they love through Jamster and its network of dozens of wireless providers."

"Warner Music Group provides Jamster with popular mobile entertainment choices that individuals everywhere are using to personalize their wireless experience," said Vernon Irvin, Executive Vice President and General Manager, VeriSign Communications Services. "As labels move into the mobile broadband age, Jamster is helping the music industry give consumers what they want, when and how they want it."

The commercial featuring Diddy can be seen on BET, which is the nation's leading television network providing quality entertainment, music, news and public affairs programming for the African-American audience.

eMusic Amasses One-Million Track Catalogue

Exclusive Live Version of the Pixies' 'Here Comes Your Man' Is the One Millionth Track

The Pixies' Frank Black Sold the First Ever Legal MP3 (on eMusic); Now, He Helps the Pioneering Download Service Celebrate an Independent Music Milestone

NEW YORK, Dec. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- eMusic, the number one independent music service, today announced the addition of the millionth track to its catalogue. The track is a live version of the Pixies' classic "Here Comes Your Man," off of their forthcoming digital-only album entitled "Hey," and will be exclusively on eMusic until January. The significance of this digital music milestone is amplified by the fact that the first MP3s to be legally sold on the Internet were on eMusic in 1998 by Frank Black and the Catholics, whose frontman, Frank Black, was also a founding member of the Pixies. Those two MP3s, "All My Ghosts" and "King and Queen of Siam," were the first in eMusic's catalogue, which is now the largest collection of independent music in the world.

To celebrate the addition of the millionth track, eMusic has launched Pixies Week-a week celebrating the famed independent band and tracing the history of their music from their formation in 1986 through today. For Pixies Week, eMusic will post a new "Review of the Day" exploring a new Pixies title each day of the week; and its "New and Noteworthy" homepage will be loaded with the music of the Pixies and Frank Black.

Since its original inception in 1998, eMusic has claimed the number one position among independent music services-and today, it is second only to iTunes among all music services, selling more than four million downloads monthly. eMusic has consistently led the industry in features designed to enhance the consumer experience-compatibility, channels to discover great music and consumer ease-of-use, while striking groundbreaking content deals with leading independent labels across all genres.

* Innovation in Compatibility
eMusic's commitment to compatibility is rooted in the fact that it was
the first digital music service to deliver music in the universally
compatible MP3 format. It remains the only major service to offer its
entire catalogue in MP3s-without digital rights management (DRM), which
limits consumer usage and listening behavior. eMusic's flexibility
allows its subscribers unlimited CD burning along with the ability to
transfer MP3s to multiple computers and multiple devices. MP3s are the
most popular and versatile digital file format and play on virtually all
digital audio players-including Apple Computer(R)'s iPod(R), along with,
literally, hundreds of devices, including mobile phones, home stereos,
PDAs, car stereos, DVD players, televisions and even cameras.

* Innovation in Discovery
eMusic's commitment to pioneering innovative ways for users to discover
music is one of its most unique features distinguishing it from other
music services. With a team of award-winning music curators and critics
producing a magazine with fresh, insightful editorial content updated
daily, industry-leading search tools and a passionate community of music
lovers consistently engaging in the eMusic community, subscribers are
equipped with a set of unrivaled human and technological navigational
tools to help guide them through the greatest independent music
catalogue ever assembled.

* Innovation in Ease-of-use
eMusic's success is underscored by a commitment to ease-of-use. To
facilitate music discovery, eMusic has created the most powerful search
and browse function of any music service. Subscribers can search for
specific artists, albums, labels and song titles. In addition,
subscribers can browse by genre, style, region, era, most-downloaded
albums, live shows and much more. In addition, eMusic uses
sophisticated personalization technology developed by ChoiceStream, to
enable users to easily find other users who share their tastes and
interests in music.

* Unparalleled Breadth of Content
eMusic's matchless scope of independent content stems from its
commitment to embrace the work of artists unwilling to compromise the
integrity of their music just to meet the tastes of major labels
interested only in producing a top-40 hit. Partnering with thousands of
independent labels across all genres from has led eMusic to become the
number one destination for consumers of independent music and music
aficionados alike. From jazz, blues and hip-hop to classical, reggae
and pop, eMusic's collection of music is unparalleled.

"No other online digital music service has one-million iPod-compatible MP3s," said David Pakman, CEO of eMusic and a managing director of Dimensional Associates, the private equity arm of JDS Capital that owns eMusic, The Orchard and Dimensional Music Publishing. "Along with indie music luminaries like Frank Black and the Pixies, eMusic has pioneered the music space since the beginning of the digital revolution. Our catalog is the largest, most important, and most well-curated collection of independent music in the world. We're honored to have the Pixies deliver our millionth track as we continue to innovate how digital music is discovered and enjoyed."

About eMusic

Bay Area Hip-Hop Label Familia Inc. Announces Debut Releases From Premiere Artist Roster

December 16, 2005, Los Angeles -
San Francisco Bay area hip-hop label Familia Inc is set to make their initial mark on the hip hop community with the release of their premiere artist releases, both set for March 2006 street dates.

The first release will come from premiere artist, L Matik, with the release of his debut, Still On The Block, to be released on March 14, 2006. Still On The Block, was produced by Anthony Ant Banks and will contain the forthcoming radio single, Ima Stay Ghetto.

L Matik has a rapping style all of his own, but occasionally there are comparisons to some of the greatest rap artists of all times. Possibly due to his aggressive, in your face lyrics such as on the track, Task Force is Haulin, or even on the spiritual side of Holy Raindrops, the resemblance is there to some people but to L Matik its purely coincidental.

L Matik recruited one of the top pioneers of Bay Area Rap, Too $hort, to make a special appearance on the forthcoming single, Weekend Hoez, which will be released soon. Still On The Block, has 17 singles and not one weak link in the chain from start to finish creating one of the cleanest start to finish releases to come out in years.

Familias second release will follow two weeks later with the debut from the artist Global and his release, Global Warning, set for a release date of March 28, 2006. Global Warning was produced by Heat Rocks and contains the future smash hit, It Aint Personal.

It is said by many bay area rap industrializes that Global is the hottest Bay Area prospect to come out in years with his upcoming singles, It Aint Personal, Anytime, featuring Cozmo, and the new Bay Area Anthem, Yadadamean. This album is pure fire, and the hottest ensemble to hit this side of the globe in years.

To find out more information about Global or L Matik, please visit the official Familia Inc website at http://www.familiainc.com or to hear sound clips, please visit Familia Incs Myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/familiainc .

NEWSWEEK COVER: 'Who's Next' 2006; 'The Da Vinci Code'

Cast and Crew of 'The Da Vinci Code' Give First Ever Interview, Open Up About Filming at the Louvre and Including Controversial Elements

Director Ron Howard: There Will Be 'No Placating ... It Would be Ludicrous to Take on This Subject and Then Try to Take the Edges Off. We're Doing This Movie Because We Like the Book'

Virginia Pols, MySpace.com Founders and Olympics-Bound Snowboarder Among Newsweek's Picks for the Top Newsmakers of 2006

NEW YORK, Dec. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Filmmaker Ron Howard says that the upcoming movie based on Dan Brown's mega-hit novel "The Da Vinci Code" will not soften the story's more controversial elements. There will be "no placating," he tells Newsweek in its annual "Who's Next" double issue, which names the up-and-comers in politics, business, science, sports and the arts that will make headlines in 2006. "It would be ludicrous to take on this subject and then try to take the edges off. We're doing this movie because we like the book," he says.

(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20051218/NYSU002 )

Since "The Da Vinci Code" was published in 2003, the book has become a global industry, spawning everything from critical documentaries to reverential bus tours. It has also been condemned by the Vatican for disseminating falsehoods about the Roman Catholic Church. The cult of "The Da Vinci Code" will reach new heights with the release of Columbia Pictures's $125 million film version, starring Tom Hanks and an international cast led by Jean Reno and Audrey Tautou. In their first interview for the movie, director Howard, producer Brian Grazer and the cast open up to Senior Writer Devin Gordon in the December 26-January 2 issue cover story "The Da Vinci Code" (on newsstands Monday, December 19) about filming at the Louvre, responding to the story's critics and preparing for the anticipated international media frenzy upon the film's release in May 2006.

Howard and Grazer describe one of the more unusual visits they paid to secure rights to film at the Louvre: the office of French President Jacques Chirac. "We thought it was going to be a five-minute thing, like a trip to the Oval Office -- a photo and a handshake," says Grazer. But Chirac asked them to sit down and get comfortable. Coffee was poured. They ended up staying close to an hour. Chirac insisted that his guests alert him if their request to film at the Louvre hit any snags. Not only that, he offered some pointers. He suggested they cast his daughter's best friend -- an actress of some acclaim in France -- in the role of Sophie Neveu, the elegant young cryptographer at the heart of the book's mystery (the part ultimately went to Tautou). And he wondered aloud, half seriously, if they could sweeten the paycheck for Reno. "That was hilarious," says Howard. "Fortunately the deal was already closed."

Six months later, Howard and the rest swarmed into the Louvre and set up shop for a week of night shoots. Paris in July offers, at most, seven hours of true darkness -- from about 10 p.m. until 4:30 a.m. -- so there was little time to stop and gape at the treasures. But everyone made sure to take a moment. "The clock's ticking, I've only got so much time to get a lot done, but even still, every once in a while, I would stop in front of, say, John the Baptist's severed head, and for just a second, I'd let myself remember where I was working," says Howard. "That was nice." Hanks's trailer was parked on a street outside the museum, requiring him to hike through countless silent galleries to reach the set. "It was a great walk to work, I'll tell you that," he says. "You're walking past 'The Coronation of the Empress Josephine,' 'Leonidas at Thermopylae' -- just one masterpiece after another."

This year's additional picks for "Who's Next" in 2006:

* Virginia's Democrat Gov. Mark Warner and Republican Sen. George Allen,
who each hopes to head up his respective party's 2008 presidential
ticket.

* Gordon Brown, Great Britain's chancellor of the Exchequer who is poised
to take over the role of prime minister from Tony Blair sometime before
the next election, expected in 2009.

* Tom Anderson and Chris DeWolfe, founders of MySpace.com, a social
networking site that has become one of the fastest growing properties on
the Web.

* Joseph Canizaro, a real estate and banking mogul with close ties to the
Bush administration who is now arguably the most powerful man on the 17-
member commission charged with rebuilding New Orleans.

* Lisa Randall, a Harvard professor who has been making a name for herself
as one of the most promising theoretical physicists of her generation.

* Seth Westcott, a world snowboarding champion and Olympic hopeful in the
newly introduced event snowboard cross, in which competitors race
towards the finish line simultaneously.

* Bill Paxton, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Chole Sevigny and Ginnifer Goodwin, the
cast of HBO's upcoming series "Big Love," about a polygamist family.

* Doo-Ri Chung, a fashion designer who, after only four collections, has
captured the imagination of everyone from Vogue's Anna Wintour to buyers
at big-time stores like Nordstrom's and Nieman Marcus.

* Saigon, a hip-hop artist who eschews thuggery and misogyny and is poised
to crack the mainstream with his major-label debut, "The Greatest Story
Never Told" (out in March).

The special "Who's Next" issue also features the annual "Perspectives" roundup, a review of the year's best cartoons and quotes, and the year-end Conventional Wisdom.

MBADC Women's Music Industry Workshop Website to Relaunch at New URL January 1: 'This Ain't No Shoe Site!'

Lesson Number One in the music business: Never be afraid to take a risk. Lesson Number Two: Never be afraid to make changes, reinvent yourself, and come out with something even better. MusicBizAdvice.com is taking its own advice and relaunching its sister site, The MBADC Women's Music Industry Workshop at a new URL on January 1 at http://mbadc.tripod.com/. The MBADC Women's Music Industry Workshop is an online magazine highlighting issues of interest to women in the music business, such as sexual harassment, women's health, and safety tips.

Burbank, CA (PRWEB) December 17, 2005 -- Lesson Number One in the music business: Never be afraid to take a risk. Lesson Number Two: Never be afraid to make changes, reinvent yourself, and come out with something even better. MusicBizAdvice.com is taking its own advice and doing just that as it relaunches its sister site, The MBADC Women's Music Industry Workshop at a new URL on January 1.

The MBADC Women's Music Industry Workshop is an online magazine highlighting issues of interest to women in the music business, such as sexual harassment, women's health, and safety tips. The MBADC Women's Music Industry Workshop launches on January 1 at http://mbadc.tripod.com/ . It was formerly an iVillage site with very different content.

Says MusicBizAdvice.com Founder / Editor-in-Chief Randi Reed, who also owns the MBADC Women's Music Industry Workshop: "We got hits at the old URL and were fairly well-received, but I never felt comfortable with the image and content of the old site. Carrying stereotypical women's content isn't our style, so I pulled the site and decided to start from scratch."

Part of that reinvention includes bumping up MusicBizAdvice.com staff writer Darcie-Nicole Wicknick to Managing Editor of The MBADC Women's Music Industry Workshop. "Darcie is great for the MBADC Women's Music Industry Workshop," says Reed. "When we were first discussing the possibility of a relaunch and came upon the tagline 'this ain't no shoe site' together, I knew she was the right person for the job." Wicknick, founder of "...Ask Darcie" music business consulting firm, is a Berklee College of Music graduate with a degree in Music Business and has been writing for MusicBizAdvice.com's main website since 2003. She is also an R&B artist.

Says Wicknick, "My personal hope for the WMIW is that it will offer diverse perspectives for women (and men) in the music industry. We're aiming for this site to serve as an outstanding resource with content for all. If we broaden cultural and social horizons in the process, even better."

But that doesn't mean without a sense of humor, and it doesn't mean anti-male. "We'd love to have guys read the site, and we want them to feel welcome," says Reed. "Male-bashing is just as bad as chauvinism, in our opinion, so you won't see it here." As for the shoes? "We like shoes just fine, but we do it on our own time. If were to cover shoes, it would be with a twist."

The MBADC Women's Music Industry Workshop launches on January 1 at http://mbadc.tripod.com/ .

About The MBADC Women's Music Industry Workshop: The MBADC Women's Music Industry Workshop is an online music industry magazine which also highlights issues of interest to women in the music business, such as sexual harassment. It is the sister site of MusicBizAdvice.com.

About MusicBizAdvice.com: MusicBizAdvice.com is an online magazine published by music industry professionals experienced in booking, artist management, and concert promotion at the national level. It is read in 66 countries worldwide and debuted in 1999, moving to its permanent URL in 2003.

Celebrities and Family Members Reflect on Life of Richard Pryor in BET News Special Salute

Comedian Dave Chappelle Breaks His Controversial Silence to Celebrate Pryor's Influence and Address Issues Around His Own Career

BET News Special 'Richard Pryor: The Funniest Man Dead or Alive' Premieres Monday, December 19 at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT

WASHINGTON, Dec. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Richard Pryor's ground-breaking, irreverent style of comedy created hysterical laughter laced with race, sex, drugs, adult language and controversy. Before his death last week at age 65, Pryor inspired multiple generations of comedians who have pushed the envelope of their art form in his image. BET will honor the memory of Pryor in a celebrity-filled BET News special 'Richard Pryor: The Funniest Man Dead or Alive' premiering Monday, December 19 at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT with an encore showing at 11 p.m. ET/PT. BET News personality Jacque Reid hosts this poignant salute to the talented comedian and actor.

In a BET News exclusive, comedian Dave Chappelle breaks his controversial silence to honor Pryor's legacy, and to address speculation on the status of his own career in the aftermath of abruptly leaving his hit series on Comedy Central for a season. Chappelle's interview on his career will run during BET News interstitial news briefs and in longer form at www.BET.com.

On Richard Pryor: Funniest Man Dead or Alive, Chappelle joins fellow joke masters Chris Tucker, Dick Gregory, Wanda Sykes, Paul Mooney, Mike Epps, Tracey Morgan, Mo'Nique, Charlie Murphy, Alex Thomas, Steve Harvey and Saturday Night Live Executive Producer Lorne Michaels in paying homage to Pryor's greatness. Pryor's wife and caregiver Jennifer Lee Pryor, former wife Flynn Pryor, children Stephen Pryor and Kelsey Pryor and former bodyguard Rashaun Khan will also share rare and personal anecdotes, along with special reflections by Rev. Jesse Jackson.

BET will further extend its salute to Pryor with a showing of one of the comedian's most critically-acclaimed films Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life is Calling, which premieres Thursday, December 22 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

The following are excerpts from comments about Pryor featured in Monday's BET News special:

Dave Chappelle:

"The hardest thing to do is to stand up and talk in front of people. People equate that to death. It might be second only to death as far as fears of people. But he did it in a way that was so courageous and left himself so vulnerable that you couldn't not like a person like this."

Chris Tucker:

"Richard Pryor was a big part of my life. He influenced me in a lot of ways. Growing up and watching him on TV as a little kid and then in the movies, he inspired me to do standup comedy and eventually do movies. I remember watching him in 'Stir Crazy.' And I couldn't wait to see him on the screen. When he was walking down in the prison scene saying "we bad," I used to go crazy. I said 'when I do movies,' I want to come on screen like that. I want to make sure the audience can't wait until I'm on screen."

Dick Gregory:

"He told jokes but it came out of the Black experience. Even if he told about the White House, about the President, it would come out the way a black person talking in the tavern or in the bar. He did not try to relate to white folks from a white vernacular . . . He brought something to that venue. From his childhood. From growing up. It could have been from experiences of marriage. And he was frightened. He was so bashful and timid -- until that light came on. But you watched him develop and develop from just a comic to a good comic and then that genius just exploded."

Jesse Jackson:

"He would curse not because he had limited material but because it was a form of punctuation and it's the kind of stuff that people would cringe at in public and then go buy the record. It was the Redd Foxx tradition . . . He was on the edge and I can not tell you the risk he took as a comedian. All great comedians for the most part, take those risks pushing the envelope."
