Poetry competitions like the RBWC are becoming increasingly popular in a time when so many feel voiceless and crave a grassroots, literary alternative to the endless stream of pop fare served by major music and television outlets. Since its inception the RBWC has met with resounding public support and has quickly became a highly anticipated annual gathering not only for poets and poetry enthusiasts, but also for activists and community organizers. This year, as in previous years, attendance is expected to be upwards of 1000 people.

Host and producer of the RBWC is NC agit-poet and Hip Hop journalistMonte Smith(www.33Third.com/monte), author of Don't Shoot the Hostages: Poetry and Social Commentary for the New World Survivalist, Volume 2.
