Alabama Artists Dominate Atlanta's Hottest Producers Battle
The My Beats Are the Illest producers battle brings the best producers along the east coast to battle for bragging rights, street credibility, and a cash prize. Masterminded by Tyrik of World Premiere, and Hotep of Skinnymen Productions, this battle proves to be tough and entertaining battle for battle. It's held the last Thursday of every month, and consists of three rounds of sonic battle. This battles organizers equate this event to the 8 Mile for producers.
Like Hip-Hop itself, fashion, and all things considered cool, the producers battle was originally dominated by producers from Northern areas. However, in January, Sam Addams from Woodshed Studios in Tuscaloosa, Alabama proved that his beats were definitely the illest. Continuing what producer Sam Addams calls the takeover, his protg, M16, also from Woodshed Studios in Tuscaloosa, won the producers battle for February.
Sam Addams says, "Man! It feels damn good to finally get some respect. People just assume for some reason that if youre from Alabama, you're slow, and that you can't be a part of Hip-Hop. Like everybody else in our generation, we love Hip-Hop, and embrace the culture. You can believe that we're going to make our mark, and go down in Hip-Hop history. Our main goal right now is to put Alabama on the map."
M16 and Sam Addams both say they won't enter the battle again, because they are now saving those good beats to sell and not display. They admit there is yet another producer coming from their studio to enter the battle next month. Who it is remains a mystery. They are both working and negotiating with well known artists and record labels, and looking forward to working with more artists in the near future.
