How to Go from Zero to Hero on American Idol : Professional Coach Offers Free Branding Advice for Talent Show Contestants

Professional business coach and media commentator Nancy Marmolejo notices that the majority of contestants on American Idol have no idea what their unique brand style is, nor do they understand how important it is to set themselves apart from the rest. She is offering Idol contestants a branding exercise to help bring them out of obscurity and into the spotlight.

Anaheim, CA (PRWEB) February 19, 2006 -- It takes more than singing talent to win over the judges on American Idol, as 4 previous seasons have already shown. Professional business coach and media commentator Nancy Marmolejo notices that the majority of contestants on the show have no idea what their unique brand style is, nor do they understand how important it is to set themselves apart from the rest. She is offering Idol contestants a branding exercise to help bring them out of obscurity and into the spotlight. She suggests that:

1. Contestants identify their key musical influences and write those names on a big piece of paper. Try for at least 3, preferably more.

2. Brainstorm words that describe these influential artists. Use strong adjectives such as soulful, passionate, sophisticated, down to earth. Use a thesaurus and have some family or friends help. Try to create 10 words for each artist and list them on the paper from step 1.

3. Glance over the list and circle the 15 strongest words that you relate to. Then narrow the list to 10, then to 5.

4. What you have left are 5 strong words that can guide you in everything from song selection to wardrobe. Make sure they ring true for you and describe you to a T.
