Hip Hop Press Update: Newsletter & Layout
I'm experimenting with FeedBlitz for my newsletter delivery. It's now the first option in the left column. So, if you've been having trouble getting the Bloglet newsletter or want to help my try something new, please subscribe to Hip Hop Press via the FeedBlitz box on the left.
I've discovered that the layout for Hip Hop Press in Firefox for Mac OS X is all screwed up and that the box to add your email address forces the left hand column's contents down the page to below the level of the main column's text. If you're having that problem, I'm sorry. I'm experimenting with the layout but my efforts so far have encountered odd obstacles.
Feedback? Send it to:
hiphoppress(at)netweed(dot)com
PS - I just tried registering for the feedblitz newsletter. You'll get an email requiring you to clickthrough to confirm your subscription. My Yahoo account put it in the Bulk folder so be sure to check there once you've subscribed.

This year Full Sail is very proud to see the talents of Phil Tan and Andrew Coleman recognized by the industry at large. It must be such an honor to know that the industry you have dedicated your life to has singled your work out as one of the year's best!"

Amoro Management Corp. has been asked to sponsor entertainment icon Snoop Dogg's Snoop Youth Football League (SYFL) by creating and managing an Endowment Fund to raise over $1,000,000 for the league.
Nashville, TN (PRWEB) February 3, 2006 -- Amoro Management Corp. has been asked to sponsor entertainment icon Snoop Dogg's Snoop Youth Football League (SYFL) by creating and managing an Endowment Fund to raise over $1,000,000 for the league.
Amoro will present Snoop with a Seed Check of $10,000 to kick off the national program at Snooper Bowl II on February 4th, 2006, before an expected halftime crowd of 20,000 fans. Snooper Bowl II will take place at the Pontiac Silverdome in Detroit, one day before NFLs Super Bowl XL. Last years Snooper Bowl event was widely considered one of the most successful officially NFL-sanctioned events of Super Bowl week. Proceeds from the endowment fund will go towards funding football programs for youth, possibly even college scholarships.
Amoro Management specializes in large-scale real estate development and redevelopment projects in major U.S. cities. Our investors are used to double and triple digit returns on their investments, said company founder, Ephren Taylor. Individuals who wish to support Snoop Doggs SYFL program can invest in the Endowment Fund, and the returns from their investment will continue to fund the SYFL for decades to come. Even if someone has no funds to spare but has great credit, with our unique Credit-For-Charity program they can use their credit alone to help support Snoop Doggs program, with no cash out of their own pocket.
Taking Kids Off The Street And Into The Stadium
Platinum Artist Snoop Dogg started the Snoop Youth Football League in 2004 to make football more affordable for all kids who want to play. Its too easy for kids to join a gang. I want to make it even easier to play football. I have a passion for teaching youth life skills through football. The NFL helps support the SYFL through various youth initiatives such as the Junior Player Development and Play Safe! Programs. Players have to maintain strict academic requirements to remain eligible.
Snoop Doggs Junior All-Stars will face the Detroit PAL All-Stars, sponsored by Think Detroit Police Athletic League and the Detroit Lions football team. Queen Latifah Pays Tribute to Five National Finalists of National Women's Confidence Awards
Finalists Surprised with News in Hometowns Via 'Confidence Caravan'
NEW YORK, Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, American "royalty" paid tribute to five national crusaders who have selflessly dedicated time and energy to local programs that build women's confidence. In a taped message, Queen Latifah applauded the five national finalists of a nationwide search to recognize women who project the power of confidence, and encourage other women to gain confidence and self-esteem, ultimately helping them live more fulfilling lives. The five finalists include Yvonne Pointer of Cleveland, Ohio; Mattie Palmore of suburban Washington, D.C.; Lorraine Bowman of San Diego, California; Jillian Bullock of suburban Philadelphia; and Kristin Bradfield of Phoenix, Arizona.
The women were taken by surprise at their homes or places of work with a visit by the "Confidence Caravan." After they heard the news, in most cases relayed by the woman who nominated them, they were invited to view a videotaped congratulatory message by Queen Latifah.
The five finalists of the Curvation Project Confidence Awards will be flown to New York City for an Awards Ceremony on February 21st, where they will meet Queen Latifah -- in person -- as well as the national leaders of top women's organizations who joined her in selecting them. The panelists include Peggy Sanchez Mills, CEO of YWCA USA; Joi Gordon, CEO of Dress For Success; Danielle Carrig, Executive Director of Step-Up Women's Network; and Pam Hardee, Marketing Director for Curvation, the line of sensual and liveable intimate apparel which sponsors the program.
"We received more than 350 nominations from around the country, filled with examples of how women are helping others to live more rewarding lives. While the entries were all amazing and we would love to recognize everyone, these five stood out as being both extremely inspirational and deserving of national recognition" said Queen Latifah, the brand's spokesperson, inspiration and creative advisor.
Each of the five finalists will receive a $2,000 grant from Curvation towards the program or cause with which they are affiliated, so that they can continue their work in building women's confidence. Wal*Mart is donating an additional $1,000 grant for each finalist. At the New York ceremony, they'll learn who the panel has selected as the grand prize winner, winning an additional $10,000 grant for her project or program.
"I credit much of who I am today to the confidence I was given as a child and the inspiration of strong, independent women like my mother and grandmother, who showed me the power of believing in myself. So I'm particularly delighted to honor these finalists, who are motivating others in the same way, and look forward to meeting them in New York to share the news of who has won the national honor" added Queen Latifah.
The five Curvation Project Confidence Awards finalists in alphabetical order are:
Lorraine Bowman of San Diego, California, was selected for founding EBEEC, Eugene Bowman Economic Empowerment Center, which is dedicated to helping women and children victimized by crime, by providing counseling services, education, victims' compensation, claim assistance, crisis intervention, and victim's advocacy services. She also founded Girl Talk, designed to motivate, empower, uplift, build self-esteem and teach leadership skills to teenage girls.
The woman who nominated her, Phyllis Lawson, who has known Lorraine for nearly 30 years, says of her: "Being a single parent hasn't been easy... even when she didn't have money for her family's needs... she still reached out to those less fortunate." She also cites Lorraine for being the first African- American woman in Centerville, AL, to own a retail store, mobilizing hundreds of young women to stay in school, and encouraging women to open businesses.
Kristin Bradfield, of Phoenix, Arizona, who was selected for launching GIFT, Growth Improvement for Female Teens, when only 24. A non-profit dedicated to helping young women grow into empowered, confident leaders, GIFT provides training and resources to programs that provide girls with leadership skills and self-esteem building.
In the words of her nominator, Deanna Prevost, Kristin "empowers young women to become advocates," "gives girls the gift of self ... by providing them with programming to enhance and unwrap their potential" and "never gives up ... knowing she's making a difference in their lives."
Jillian Bullock of Upper Darby, Pennsylvania (suburban Philadelphia), who was selected for her dedication to empowering women to be "Victors, not Victims" and for donating 20% of the proceeds from each of her "Fitness & Conditioning Self-Defense for Females" workshops to charities that help combat cancer.
Delayne Powe, the local woman who nominated her, cites Jillian for her "behavior as a role model, her dedication and commitment to serve other women."
Mattie Palmore of Alexandria, Virginia (suburban Washington, D.C.), was selected for running a women's support group for victims of sexual, physical and mental abuse; for encouraging even the most downtrodden to "feel empowered, with greatly improved self esteem and special confidence." Mattie's confidence-building women's support groups welcomes those from all walks of life, including the formerly incarcerated; survivors of rape, molestation and incest; single mothers and working moms, from inhabitants of shelters to corporate executives. Her programs help women transcend the kind of desperate circumstances this mother of four and grandmother of three once experienced.
Lorraine Spencer, says she nominated Mattie for "being confidence personified ... and for helping women realize that they have the power to take control, make positive changes in their lives and be victims no more."
Yvonne Pointer of Cleveland, Ohio, was selected for founding "Positive Plus," whose mission is to motivate women to become responsible and to seize control of their own destiny; being a role model for Cleveland Public School's "Girl Power" program; and for her work building the confidence and self- respect of inmates in women's and juvenile prisons
According to her nominator, Angelique Seals, Yvonne is "Confidence in Motion." More than that, Yvonne turned a heartbreaking personal tragedy into a one-woman quest to empower other women and girls, while making the world a safer place. She established the Gloria Pointer Annual Scholarship Award, funded by the proceeds of her self-published book "Behind the Death of a Child."

Eclectic indie rapper--emcee Hype--releases solo EP, apathy irony agony infinity, an intelligent rap record about hope?
Album summary, sample lyrics, and information on debut solo release from eclectic indie rapper, emcee hype. How can an album called, "Apathy Irony Agony Infinity" be so hopeful? Think "Shawshank Redemption" for hip hop heads.
New Jersey & Pennsylvania (PRWEB) February 2, 2006 -- Eclectic indie rapper, Emcee Hype, returns to the mic with his debut solo EP, Apathy Irony Agony Infinity. This explosive and intelligent EP marks hypes first solo work since his demo tapes in the late 90s. Four LPs from two different rap groups, and several collaborations, span the six years since.
This EP also marks the first time that all of the production and beats were done by Hype. The rapper gathered all of his samples, produced all of the beats on the album, and performed all of the accompaniments: keys, guitars, and turntables.
Apathy Irony Agony Infinity is a fire-cracker-blast of an EP. With no intro track, the album explodes onto the listeners eardrums with the jazz-savvy opener, summer in the city. The album then spans seven tracks and twenty-one minutes worth of non-stop flows, gritty hip hop and unadulterated heart-on-my-sleeve emotion.
On his tongue-in-cheek, youre crazy too, Hype snarls, And its onmy heart on my sleeve on a song A few lines later he revises the former, adding, Im sick? Im only regrettin that shed leave, so I tore up the heart and wore a hole on my sleeve.
Hypes wordplay is dazzling. His machine-gun delivery and dictionary-dense lyrics rattle the mind in your bobbing head, while he paints the canvas of his tracks like a mic-wielding Jackson Pollock.
Its our personal, serpigo, terminal, final descent and if you cycle all the circles to the surface youll know what I meant. You follow through the hollow any way you wantits isotropicIll be waitin by the tree of empty bottles, vice in pocket. (Lyrics, please dont feed the machine)
Hype addresses politics and class on the Bradbury-inspired, burn em to ashes then burn the ashes. Other, more subtle political and social commentaries peer out from behind metaphors and dance in the shadows of the subtext throughout various songs.
Fashion is in and its clearly not the clever that win, its the Beverly-born-into-this-belly-T. (Lyrics, the world on a string)
Apathy Irony Agony Infinity is a collection of snapshots from inside of Hypes mind. He gives you the shattered pieces on each songdaring you to put them back togetheras he ravishes through memories and insights, pits the collective against the individual, and recounts love and loss. The album is dark and brooding, the tracks are eclectic, but the unifying theme is one of hope.
Think Shawshank Redemption for hip hop heads.
On the track youre crazy too Hype tackles depression, and paints a grim picture of his own sick psyche, but hope prevails in the chorus: just put the past on the other side of the river, push the button, blow the bridge in two.
The melodic we all bleed red is an anthem for humanity. Lines like, Vanity vanished the moment I noticed the notion that nothing is normal but people and oceans and mountains and space careen back to the refrain, it seems that were different but listen, he said, we all bleed red.
Apathy Irony Agony Infinity is not just a tight hip hop record; its good music with appeal that transcends genre lines. In spite of the title, this EP has an element rap could really use these days: hope.

Promo Only MPE Adds iPod and Music Video Support to Industry Leading Digital Delivery System
Version 2.0 further distances promo-only MPE from the competition with key upgrades.
Orlando, Florida February 1, 2006 Promo Only MPE today launched version 2.0 of its industry leading digital distribution system. The system features a number of key upgrades including full iPod support, music video delivery capabilities and linear HD audio support. Further distinguishing itself from market competitors, and in keeping with the systems cutting-edge technology, the Promo Only MPE System is the first of its kind to seamlessly integrate the iPod.
New features to Promo Only MPE 2.0 include the following:
Music video delivery users will now be able to watch previews of music videos through the Promo Only MPE System. Promo Only MPE 2.0 now supports Windows Media, QuickTime and RealVideo files.
iPod support users are able to export AAC files directly from their Promo Only MPE player into iTunes. Files can be encoded at a user specified bit-rate ranging from 128 to 320. In addition, Promo Only MPE 2.0 auto-imports supporting graphics and complete song information to iTunes which can then be downloaded to any iPod device.
WMA support users are able to export WMA files to all portable media devices that support Windows Media. Files can be encoded at a user specified bit-rate ranging from 128 to 320.
Linear HD audio support Promo Only MPE 2.0 also supports the full delivery of linear HD audio of every track distributed through the system. The new linear HD format was designed specifically for the needs of satellite providers (XM, Sirius) and the hundreds of future HD radio stations.
Version 2.0 is truly a milestone for Promo Only MPE, said Dean Ernst, Director of Promo Only MPE. With iPod and WMA support, our customers are able to directly transfer music files and graphics straight from the Promo Only MPE System onto their iPods and other portable media devices. Promo Only MPE listened and responded to user requests for such upgrades as music video and linear HD audio and successfully incorporated them in to version 2.0. With these significant enhancements to the players features, we are confident that the Promo Only MPE System will maintain its position as the digital distribution system of choice for the music industry in 2006.
"Promo Only MPE has been highly responsive in listening and meeting the needs of their customers," said Mark Pollitt, Corporate Format Director Pop with Cumulus Media Inc. "Cumulus is excited about the addition of these key system features, especially providing uncompressed HD audio. Promo Only MPE is the one company that stepped up and over-delivered on radio's requests!"
Promo Only MPE has been leading the music industry in digital distribution in the United States since its launch in October of 2004. To date, the system has over 5,600 individual registered users. In excess of 8000 tracks have been distributed through the Promo Only MPE System for labels including Universal Music Group, Sony BMG, EMI Music Group and Warner Music Group. 2005 marked the partnership deal with Mediabase 24/7 monitoring service and the unveiling of the first ever digital distribution system with Spanish language capabilities, allowing it to serve the growing number of Spanish speaking radio stations and Latin label divisions in the United States. In 2006, Radio and Records announced that they will combine with Promo Only as the exclusive sales representative for the Promo Only MPE System.
Promo Only MPE is used and supported by every major broadcaster including Clear Channel, Infinity, Citadel, Cox, Cumulus, Salem Communications, Radio One, Emmis, Entercom, Sirius, Journal, ABC, DMX, CBS, Jones Radio, Yahoo, AOL, Music Choice, Disney, Univision, Westwood One, Regent, Premiere Radio, Next Media and many others.

'80s Rock & Hip-Hop Legends to Field Their Hits at Bodog.com Lingerie Bowl on Feb. 5
WWW.LINGERIEBOWL.COM
HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The L.A. Memorial Coliseum may not sell it at concessions, but there will surely be some delicious "Cherry Pie" on the field during this year's Bodog.com Lingerie Bowl as '80s rock Icon Jani Lane the Original Singer / Song writer Warrant belts out his signature song, joined by those from the biggest collaboration of '80s hip-hop artists including Biz Markie, Whodini, Slick Rick, Doug E. Fresh, Chubb Rock and Rob Base.
Before the "bling" era that refocused rap on Benjamins and BMWs, drugs and thugs, the 1980s nurtured a generation of young artists that defined old- school rap with a sense of humor and musical adventurism. From the "clown prince of rap" Biz Markie to the funk/freak fun of Whodini, from "the first human beat box in the rap world" Doug E. Fresh to the lyrical innovation of Chubb Rock, these nascent artists resonated a feeling of optimism sorely missing from much of today's hardcore rap. Then there's Jani Lane, the Original Singer / Song writer for Multi Platinum recording artist Warrant, "one of the most popular pop-metal bands of the late '80s" (according to All Music Guide), whose multi-platinum album Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich yielded the singles "Down Boys," "Sometimes She Cries" and "Heaven," followed by the even more popular Cherry Pie with its Top Ten hits "Cherry Pie" and "I Saw Red."
"We are thrilled to assemble a once-in-a-lifetime performance by some of the greatest hip-hop artists of the '80s and one of the era's greatest rock bands," stated Lingerie Bowl creator and executive producer Mitch Mortaza, president of Horizon Productions. "This musical lineup offers something for everyone and will bring great energy in accompanying the fashion show that takes place just before our players hit the field for the main event."
The Bodog.com Lingerie Bowl airs Super Bowl Sunday, February 5, from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. EST/PST, offering a 90-minute sports and entertainment extravaganza live on Pay-Per-View, for $19.95 (check with your local cable or satellite providers for availability). The highly anticipated halftime special -- pitting two-time Lingerie Bowl champions Los Angeles Temptation against two-time Eastern regional champion New York Euphoria -- will feature bombshell Jenny McCarthy, supermodel Cindy Margolis, 1985 Chicago Bear greats William "The Refrigerator" Perry and Willie Gault, MTV personality Trishelle Cannatella, "American Idol's" Ryan Starr, model/actress Tamie Sheffield and Fox football analyst Mike Goldberg. Additional celebrities and entertainment components will be announced in the final week. For more information, visit www.LingerieBowl.com.

mtvU Announces Spring Programming Loaded With New Music and Student Productions
First Ever 'mtvU Freshmen Five' Picks Breakout Acts to Watch this Semester
Hit Series 'Stand In,' 'Does This Look Infected?' and 'Fresh Produce' Return with All New Episodes
All mtvU Programming to Now Debut on mtvU Uber Before or During On-Air Broadcast
NEW YORK, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Continuing to deliver as a crystal ball for new music and a creative laboratory for college students, mtvU today announced on-air, online and on campus programming for Spring 2006 -- offering college students unparalleled opportunities to jump start their careers, experience the best new music and affect positive social change. In response to heavy adoption of mtvU's new broadband channel at mtvU.com, mtvU Uber, the network also announced that all shows will now premiere online before or simultaneously with on-air broadcasts. mtvU has grown distribution more than 30 percent since launch in 2004 and enters this year on a number of new campuses, including top schools such as Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Wisconsin -- Madison, Brown, Princeton, Auburn and Georgia State.
"College students are literally shaping mtvU -- from programming their own channel with mtvU Uber, to creating the content we feature, to determining which new artists we play and bring to campus quads -- and we're offering our network as a national forum for their talents and achievements," said Stephen Friedman, GM of mtvU.
Highlights from the semester ahead include:
NEW MUSIC
"mtvU FRESHMEN FIVE" -- College students are the prophets of new music, and starting this semester, the "mtvU Freshman Five" will bi-annually pick the five emerging artists poised to ride on students' shoulders to superstardom. Each will be featured on an upcoming episode of mtvU's weekly series, "The Freshman," (Tuesdays), which runs down music videos from artists fresh on the scene. The inaugural class of the "mtvU Freshman Five" is:
* Arctic Monkeys -- Sheffield-based postpunk band tearing up the UK charts
and gaining major traction on college campuses across the U.S.
* the Federation -- Emerging Bay Area rap group and pioneers of the
Northern California phenomena, "Hyphy"
* Gym Class Heroes -- Signed by Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy, the five piece
hip hop band charts its own path with live instrumentation and conscious
lyrics
* Lady Sovereign -- Wembley-bred 19-year old leading the UK's grime
movement and recently signed by Jay-Z
* MF Doom -- Metal-faced underground hip hop superhero building steam off
acclaimed collaboration with Danger Mouse, "The Mouse and the Mask"
"BREAKING THE VIDEO" -- mtvU has greenlit the new series "Breaking the Video," which features O.A.R. and Damone this semester, and gives college students the chance to produce and direct music videos for hot emerging acts. Artists choose the winning concept for the video and travel to campus for the shoot. Each video -- along with a special behind-the-scenes "making of" -- premieres exclusively on mtvU and mtvU Uber. Episode one features college favorite O.A.R., produced by students at Columbia University. Episode two features students from Brooklyn College creating a video for breakout artist Damone. The series is Executive Produced by acclaimed video director Justin Francis of "The Saline Project" (Eminem, Black Eyed Peas, Weezer, 50 Cent), who will serve as a mentor.
"2006 BEST MUSIC ON CAMPUS CONTEST" -- mtvU will soon begin its annual quest to discover America's most outstanding college artists. For the first time, bands will this year build personalized music pages on mtvU.com, where college students nationwide will browse, listen to, and rate their favorites. The winner will receive a record deal and their video will premiere on mtvU and mtvU Uber.
"CAMPUS INVASION '06 TOUR" -- Back for its second year under the mtvU banner, Campus Invasion '06 brings red-hot up-and-comers Motion City Soundtrack, Straylight Run and HelloGoodbye to twenty college campuses across the US beginning the first week in April. Motion City Soundtrack is fresh off winning "The Breaking Woodie" (Best Emerging Artist) at the 2005 mtvU Woodie Awards, Straylight Run's video for "Hands in the Sky" has been a student favorite, earning heavy rotation on mtvU, and HelloGoodbye took first place honors in the recent MTV2 Dew Circuit Breakout battle-of-the-bands competition. *Dates and campuses for the tour are to be announced. For booking, please visit http://www.mtvu.com/uconnect/campus_invasion_tour/
"mtvU EXCLUSIVE LIVE LEAK" -- Rising reggae star Matisyahu got his start on mtvU nearly a year ago, and now he's back to take over the channel, with an on-air, online, and wireless exclusive first look-and-listen of his debut studio album, "Youth." In the seven days running up to the album's release this March, mtvU Uber will each day premiere an exclusive live performance of a new song from the record. The day "Youth" drops, performances from the "Live Leak" will air every half hour on mtvU, while the album streams in its entirety on mtvU.com and as a wireless download for digital phones. Additionally, beginning February 13th, mtvU will exclusively premiere the self-titled lead video from "Youth" on-air and online, as well as a behind the scenes look at the making of the video. The most recent mtvU "Live Leak" alumnus, Death Cab for Cutie, rode the leak of its 2005 release "Plans" to a best ever debut, landing at #4 on Billboard and #1 on the college charts.
STUDENT GENERATED CONTENT AND RETURNING FAVORITES
"STAND IN" -- A new roster of global icons will surprise college campuses this spring and serve as "Stand In" professors for a day. With mtvU cameras following, each will visit an mtvU affiliate school to guest teach an unsuspecting class. Additionally, in March, MTV will air a half hour special highlighting some of the best moments from the acclaimed mtvU series, which has shocked college students with Stand Ins including Nobel Laureate Shimon Peres, Madonna, Senator John McCain, Marilyn Manson, Tom Wolfe, Sting and Kanye West.
"COLLEGE TELEVISION AWARDS" -- Through a new partnership with the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation, this year mtvU becomes a multi-platform distribution partner for the College Television Awards, which recognizes the nation's best in film, video and digital works. mtvU and mtvU Uber will profile the 2006 awards this March with features on the nominees, winners and a behind the scenes look at the Television Academy Foundation's gala awards ceremony. In addition to industry recognition and cash prizes, the College Television Awards offer student winners exposure to an audience of Hollywood executives, Television Academy members, and now, their peers nationwide.
"mtvU STUDENT DEVELOPMENT DEALS" -- Starting this spring, mtvU will award multiple "development deals" every semester to stand out students who have submitted for any of mtvU's student-generated series or competitions. The first four students to receive mtvU development deals are: Antonio Campos, a senior in NYU's film program and Cannes Film Festival Cinefondation 1st place winner; Andrew Karlsruher, a Boston University sophomore who traveled to Sudan for mtvU's student-produced documentary on the crisis in Darfur, "Translating Genocide;" and Rocky Murray and Matt Gazewood, students at Great Basin College, whose videotaped antics, pranks and stunts have become the most streamed clips from mtvU's series, "Fresh Produce."
"DARFUR GENOCIDE ACTIVISM VIDEO GAME" -- In partnership with the Reebok Human Rights Foundation, mtvU today unveiled the three finalists in its Darfur Digital Activist competition. Developed by students from Carnegie Mellon, U.S.C. and the DigiPen Institute of Technology, the online video games are designed to spread awareness of the genocide taking place in the Darfur region of Sudan and further mobilize college students to help stop the crisis. The finalists are live on http://www.darfurisdying.com/, where students can play the games and vote for the entry they feel represents the best call to action. The winning prototype will receive up to $50,000 towards development and launch into the digital world.
"SPRING BREAK 2006" -- mtvU is taking over Panama City Beach for two weeks this spring, bringing down some of hottest acts making waves on the college music scene. Armor for Sleep, HelloGoodbye, Juelz Santana, Matchbook Romance and Hawthorne Heights are some of the early confirmed bands and more will be announced soon. The mtvU Stage and Village will be on the beach March 5th - 19th, with live concerts, games, prizes, free stuff and more. Those that can't get to PCB can catch live performances on mtvU.com and mtvU and mtvU Uber.
"TAKE ACTION TOUR 2006" -- This year mtvU again sponsors the Take Action! Tour, which benefits the Kristin Brooks Hope Center (operator of the Youth America Hotline 1-877-YOUTHLINE and 1-800-SUICIDE), helps prevent suicide and generates support for federal funding of suicide prevention programs. The tour runs from March 1 - April 23 and boasts a stellar lineup of up-and-coming bands, including Matchbook Romance, Silverstein, The Early November, Chiodos and Amber Pacific. For a full list of bands, dates and cities, please visit: http://www.mtvu.com/music/take_action_tour/
mtvU is the only place where college students can see music videos and programming featuring many of their favorite artists. The channel is a crystal ball for new music, helping to break acts like Fallout Boy, Franz Ferdinand, The Killers and Matisyahu.
"College students are literally shaping mtvU -- from programming their own channel with mtvU Uber, to creating the content we feature, to determining which new artists we play and bring to campus quads -- and we're offering our network as a national forum for their talents and achievements," said Stephen Friedman, GM of mtvU.

Three 6 Mafia Make Academy Award History As First African-American Hip-Hop Ensemble to Receive a 'Best Original Song' Oscar Nomination
Uncompromising Underground Hardcore Rap Group Storms The Mainstream As 'It's Hard Out Here For A Pimp,' from the film 'Hustle & Flow,' Is Nominated For Best Achievement In Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Song) Oscar
NEW YORK, Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences revealed the nominees for the 78th Annual Academy Awards earlier today notably honoring Three 6 Mafia, the Dirty South's most uncompromising hip-hop ensemble, with a nomination in the Best Achievement In Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Song) category.
Three 6 Mafia's track, "It's Hard Out Here For A Pimp," from the highly-acclaimed hip-hop drama "Hustle & Flow" (which won the Audience Award at Sundance), paints an unflinching and indelible picture of the gritty world of grass-roots hip-hop, mirroring in music the blistering inner-city turmoil portrayed in the film. "It's Hard Out Here For A Pimp" features music and lyric by Jordan (Juicy J) Houston, Cedric (Crunchy Black) Coleman and Paul (DJ Paul) Beauregard (aka Three 6 Mafia).
Written and directed by Craig Brewer, "Hustle & Flow" (Paramount Classics, MTV Films and New Deal Entertainment) presents a tough and honest look at the hip-hop underground of Memphis, Tennessee, the birthplace of Three 6 Mafia.
The Academy Award nomination is the latest in a series of triumphs for Three 6 Mafia, who've just become the first African-American rap group in history to be nominated for a Best Song Oscar trophy. It's also a major victory for hip-hop itself as the groundbreaking art form, as represented by Three 6 Mafia, breaks out of the underground and achieves bona fide recognition from the entertainment mainstream. The Three 6 Mafia nomination marks the second time in Oscar history that a hip-hop act has been honored with a Best Song nomination by the Academy. The first was Eminem for "8 Mile" in 2002 (he won).
The latest Three 6 Mafia single, "Poppin' My Collar," featuring Project Pat, is currently in rotation at MTV2 and BET and is the #3 Most Watched Video on MTV2.com. The track, which was a "New Joint" on "106th and Park" on January 26, is currently the #2 Most Added record at Urban Mainstream radio.
The group has several upcoming television appearances scheduled including an episode of MTV "Cribs" (airing Wednesday, February 1) and an MTV "Wild N Out" performance of "Poppin' My Collar" (airing Thursday, February 2). Three 6 Mafia will be featured on MTV's "Jamie Kennedy Show" this spring.
The group's last single, "Stay Fly" is a platinum certified digital single and is currently #2 on the Top 40 Mainstream chart, #19 Top 40 Rhythm and a Top 5 single at Urban Mainstream.
