Snoop Dogg's Aunt, Daz Dillinger's Mother Launches a Campaign to Save the Hip Hop Generation

Hip Hop Blue-Blood Mother of Daz Dillinger, Aunt of Snoop Dogg Dr. Varnado makes a campaign to help reform the Hip Hop community. The question that Dr. Varnado asks every time, "Before Kanye was it popular to rap about Jesus? After Kanye West will someone else dare to do it?"

Los Angeles, Calif. (PRWEB) February 24, 2006 -- Super Producer Daz Dillinger's mother Dr. Varnado makes a pledge to help the Hip Hop community. Dr Varnado is committed to helping those artists who have "broken spirits" to receive the peace of mind of having faith in a higher being. Dr. Varnado explains, "My generation has to get out of the church and into the community. We can't turn our noses up at this generation we have to help them, we should be committed to helping them." Dr. Varnado continues, "I know that it is a struggle but I am committed to help those who are in need who have been molested, who have been abused, who have been peer pressured into a gang and so forth."

Dr. Varnado is committed to helping raise the esteem of the Hip Hop generation especially. Dr Varnado explains, "I listen to these lyrics and it's basically stemming from self-hatred. We have to stop this self hatred and it comes from us as Black people not believing we are beautiful." Dr. Varnado reveals, "So I started a 'Because I don't look like you doesn't mean I am ugly campaign". Stacey Reynold explains, " I totally believe in what Dr. Varnado is doing because our children watch videos in the hip hop industry and half of those people have tons of make up on or are airbrushed and it is simply not realistic and then they go to school and their peers judge each other based on that unrealistic standard." Reynolds continues, "There are plenty of people who have murdered, stolen, abused another simply because they believed the damaging words that their parents or peers have told them. At that point ones self esteem is totally shot. You can't expect a clear picture out of damaged lenses".

The question that Dr. Varnado asks every time, "Before Kanye was it popular to rap about Jesus? After Kanye West will someone else dare to do it?"

Dr Varnado is a powerful speaker and spiritual guide for the youth. Dr. Varnado's fiery testimony and wonderful singing can also be found on Gods Army Reserves. Join her as she helps fill the void in so many lives who were challenged by adversity: child molestation, rape, terminal illnesses, abuse, emotional turmoil, low self esteem. Her teachings her words are so commanding so powerful that you walk away feeling refreshed and more connected to the Creator. She helps you align to that power that you have within you. She could be considered a Hip Hop blue blood. Her son is the multi-platinum artist producer Daz Dillinger and her nephew is rap star Snoop Dogg. She is also no stranger to the music world, as she has worked for phenomenal stars such as Bobby Blue Bland. Dr. Allean Varnando is an evangelist, singer, author, songwriter, Bible instructor and a true instrument for delivering the power words that God so often tries to tells us but we choose to ignore.

While often times ministries can be She has such a hip spirit to connect and relate to young people all over the world. She has the quick wit of any comedian and the ability to go beneath the surface of any circumstance to heal you with the power of God. Her quick wit, creativity and humor keeps the youth laughing as she ministers and reveals new methods and ways to find the right connection with the Creator. She makes it clear that God is not some far away thing but a reality that all of us have access to. Her many years of experience in the Juvenile Court System in California and Psyche Counselor in Oklahoma with youth has given her the insight on various issues that plague teenagers that adults often time forget after they reach a certain age. Dr. Varnado has appeared in Sister to Sister, Philadelphia Newspaper, Trinity Broadcasting Network, and countless other television and media outlets to share a step by step program to adhere to having a better sense of self. Is the past robbing you from the ability to receive goodness in your present? Are you unknowingly being peer pressured? Do you want to remove yourself from negative elements and people but need just an encouraging word and testimony to help? Dr. Varnado has the answer.

The question that Dr. Varnado asks every time, "Before Kanye was it popular to rap about Jesus? After Kanye West will someone else dare to do it?"

Digital Rights Agency Condemns Sprint for Failure to Include Independent Artists in Music Service

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Digital Rights Agency, the leading worldwide digital music distributor, announced today it has sent a letter to Sprint Nextel Corporation CEO Gary Forsee, strongly condemning the company's failure to include independent record label catalogs in its recently launched full-track download service.

Digital Rights Agency represents more than 250 leading independent labels, including exclusive digital rights for the multi-platinum Daddy Yankee title Barrio Fino, the Billboard #1 Latin album of 2005, and key titles by gold and platinum recording artists Chamillionaire, Lil Jon, Snoop Dogg, Death Cab for Cutie, Yellowcard, Smokey Robinson, Count Basie and many others.

"More than three months after launching the service, and after advertising on the Super Bowl and Grammy Awards, it's simply unacceptable that Sprint continues to exclude independent labels from its full-track download service," said Digital Rights Agency Managing Director Tuhin Roy. "It's difficult to understand how Sprint will compete with services like iTunes or Verizon's Vstream, if 25% of the time, it will be unable to deliver the music than its subscribers are looking for."

For two years, DRA has attempted to initiate direct negotiations with Sprint for a license, and has been repeatedly told that Sprint does not have the resources to carry independent labels. However, DRA and several large independent content owners including the Beggars Group and V2 Records have licensed their catalogs and delivered content to Groove Mobile, which back-ends the Sprint service. As a result, the inclusion of thousand of independent label catalogs in the Sprint service is currently as simple as Groove Mobile 'flipping a switch.' However, Sprint has refused to take deliveries of independent content from Groove Mobile or to negotiate direct licensing deals with independent labels. In contrast, Verizon has been extremely supportive of independent record labels and has included thousands of independent label catalogs in its Vstream service.

"Not only do independent labels represent 25% of the music sold in the United States, but they are the engine that keeps the industry vital and growing," added Roy. "DRA's mission is to ensure that independent labels have fair access to digital music services, and we sincerely hope that Sprint will reverse its current policy of excluding the talented and popular artists represented by indie labels."

DRA has over 185,000 tracks available for digital distribution from record labels in the U.S, Canada, Mexico, Spain, France, U.K., Italy, Germany, Korea, India and Russia. DRA's catalog is available on more than 200 digital music services worldwide, including iTunes, Napster, Rhapsody, Yahoo, eMusic, Verizon, Virgin Mega, T-Online and mobile carriers in more than 40 countries, including O2 and Orange in the UK and KDDI in Japan.

Ashlee Simpson, Carmen Electra, Hoobastank, Ying Yang Twins and Benji Madden Rocked Exclusive Party to Launch New Hard Rock Condo-Hotel in San Diego

Unrivaled Event Helps Boost Interest in Condo Sales

SAN DIEGO, Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- On Thursday, February 16, 2006, San Diego proved it's ready to rock. Hard Rock Hotel San Diego, the city's first branded condo-hotel kicked off condo sales with an evening sure to keep San Diego buzzing. Ashlee Simpson, Carmen Electra, Hoobastank, the Ying Yang Twins and Benji Madden led the evening's festivities at a high-profile, all-out event held in the heart of San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter.

Simpson and Electra led the red carpet scene in front of a hoard of screaming fans and the world's top media. They both served as the party's hosts and introduced the incredible line-up of talent to roaring applause from the crowd. The chart-topping show opened with a selection of party favorites from Atlanta's rap duo, the Ying Yang Twins. Hoobastank, the platinum-selling rock band, followed and treated Hard Rock Hotel guests to an exclusive preview of their hot, new music. This was their first live performance since the release of their third album. Benji Madden, lead guitarist of the band Good Charlotte, was on the turntables playing a selection of 80's, hip hop and rock to a fashionable and energetic crowd of the young and young-at-heart. Other guests that came out to party included celebrities Macy Gray, Shane West, Andrew Keegan, Vincent Young, Ryan Key of Yellowcard, Duff McKagan, Matt Sorum and Dave Kushner of Velvet Revolver, Kassim Osgood and Shawne Merriman of the San Diego Chargers.

The party's hosts were so impressed with the party that they are both in talks with Hard Rock Hotel San Diego to design one of the 15 rock star suites. Each to be fashioned by a different celebrity designer, Ashlee Simpson mentioned that her suite would be a "Surfer Chick" theme, complete with bamboo accents, tiki torch lights and a personally-signed surfboard hanging on the wall. Carmen Electra, on the other hand, has plans to create a "Rock Star Goddess" suite filled with lots of candles, sexy satin sheets, a heart-shaped bath tub and a stripper pole for the late night seductress.

Filled with Hollywood's elite and San Diego's top influentials, the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego offered first-class, VIP treatment to all 1,500-plus guests that attended its private celebration. Remaining faithful to its long-standing corporate motto "Love All, Serve All," guests enjoyed an explosive atmosphere with flowing signature drinks, custom ice sculptures, and attentive model-like wait staff dressed in edgy, Hard Rock gear. The Hard Rock Hotel San Diego captured the appeal and excitement of the music industry's best known icon by transforming a large, popular nightclub into a sleek, sexy party space, giving party-goers a taste for what's to come.

"We want to bring a whole new level of entertainment and style to San Diego," said Greg Casserly, President of Tarsadia Hotels, the operator. "The party featured the same trademark rock 'n' roll attitude and impulsive energy for which Hard Rock Hotels are famous. We are extremely excited to make our initial mark in this city with an unforgettable, jaw-dropping event."

Since that night, the sales center has been flooded with condo reservation requests. The 12-story, 420 unit condo-hotel, is currently under construction and expected to open in Spring 2007. Like the event itself, the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego will define modern standards of luxury and cool. Located in the heart of the party scene, at the corner of Fifth Avenue and L Street, the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego will offer both owners and hotel guests a unique experience combined with 24/7 service and high-octane nightlife yet scene in Downtown San Diego.

Units for sale will range from studios to rock star suites, with prices starting in the $400s. Designed to make it easy to work hard and play hard, each condo will have a hip, electric vibe, with stunning, modern furniture and state-of-the-art lighting and electronics. Owners will also enjoy the hotel's various amenities including 24-hour concierge service, a world-class spa and fitness center, a high-tech screening room, a landscaped rooftop pool deck with private cabanas, a 7,000 square foot live music venue, a world-class restaurant operated by Nobu and chic lounge and pool bar by Rande Gerber.

Jukeboxes Go Digital with Promo Only MPE

Promo Only MPE to provide content to digital jukeboxes; owners able to download tracks immediately upon release.

(PRWEB via PR Web Direct) February 22, 2006 -- Promo Only MPE (www.promoonlympe.com), the leading label-endorsed digital distribution system in the United States, today announced that it will provide digital jukeboxes with music exclusively from the Promo Only MPE System. With the aid of Promo Only MPE, jukebox owners will now be able to download tracks immediately upon release, ensuring that their systems are constantly provided with only the freshest content specifically targeted to their respective demographic markets.

The new MAX FIRE jukeboxes, distributed exclusively by SML Entertainment, will feature touch screen technology and the capacity to hold over 50,000 songs. Promo Only MPE will digitally deliver music to these jukeboxes via its safe and secure delivery system, alleviating fears of industry piracy.

Operators who own jukeboxes in multiple locations will be able to move individual tracks and video content to each box via a single centralized computer. The MAX FIRE jukeboxes are wall mounted and operated using a bill and coin system, making them ideally suited for use in bars, clubs and restaurants. The campaign will roll out in Canada first, debuting in additional markets shortly thereafter.

After evaluating a number of alternatives available to us, the Promo Only MPE System was the hands-down favorite, said SML President Tony Fisher.

Promo Only MPE has already established itself as the clear choice in the music industry. We are pleased that the jukebox industry has now chosen to jump on board and take advantage of this tremendous innovation.

Music sent digitally to a jukebox via the Promo Only MPE System ensures that it is able to reach new audiences in a secure and controlled way, said Dean Ernst, Director of Promo Only MPE. The ability to pick and choose which tracks will be added to your jukebox provides owners with great command and guarantees a musical selection that is highly targeted and meets the needs of their clientele.

Promo Only MPE has been leading the music industry in digital distribution in the United States since its launch in October of 2004. To date, the system has over 6,200 individual registered users. In excess of 9000 tracks have been distributed through the Promo Only MPE System for labels including Universal Music Group, Sony BMG, EMI Music Group and Warner Music Group. 2005 marked the partnership deal with Mediabase 24/7 monitoring service and the unveiling of the first ever digital distribution system with Spanish language capabilities, allowing it to serve the growing number of Spanish speaking radio stations and Latin label divisions in the United States. In 2006, Radio and Records announced that they will combine with Promo Only as the exclusive sales representative for the Promo Only MPE System.

Promo Only MPE recently announced the availability of a MAC version of its digital distribution system as well as the release of version 2.0 featuring a number of key upgrades including full iPod support, music video delivery capabilities and linear HD audio support.

Promo Only MPE is used and supported by every major broadcaster including Clear Channel, Infinity, Citadel, Cox, Cumulus, Salem Communications, Radio One, Emmis, Entercom, Sirius, Journal, ABC, DMX, CBS, Jones Radio, Yahoo, AOL, Music Choice, Disney, Univision, Westwood One, Regent, Premiere Radio, Next Media and many others.

Kevin Epps - Director/Producer of "Straight Outta Hunters Point" Gears Up to Release Latest Film "Rap Dreams"

Kevin Epps, acclaimed digital filmmaker and founder of Mastamind Production, LLC will release his latest production "Rap Dreams", in movie theatres, on DVD, and Podcast, all simultaneously. This film contrasts the subjects' bling bling dreams with reality.

(PRWEB) February 23, 2006 -- Kevin Epps, acclaimed digital filmmaker and founder of Mastamind Production, LLC will release his latest production "Rap Dreams", in movie theatres, on DVD, and Podcast (downloadable for $1.99), all simultaneously. Set to release on March 10 of this year, Rap Dreams will be screened at select Bay Area theaters. Theaters include the Roxie Cinema in San Francisco, the Parkway in Oakland, CA, with other cities, LA, NY, Chicago, Atlanta, and Philadelphia, to follow.

"Rap Dreams", Epps latest follows the lives of three upcoming rappers, Kev Kelley, Hectic, and Oakland's own Mistah FAB, as they journey thru the underground of the San Francisco and Bay Area independent hip-hop scene and follow their dreams of becoming rap superstars. This film contrasts the subjects' bling bling dreams with reality.

Epps who recently received "Favorite Independent Filmmaker of the Year Award" 2005 at the Northern California Film Production Community is excited and optimistic about this new method of multiple distribution channel releases at the same time, especially for the independent filmmakers who often struggle with finding distribution, digital media and technology. "We now have a global audience, via the internet. You can go to the movies, buy the DVD, download it to watch on your iPod, it's the viewers choice," says Epps. The likely benefactors of this form of distribution are the independent filmmakers who don't have the backing of major Hollywood production companies.

About his recent partnership with Current TV, Epps had this to say "This is a great opportunity for me as an independent media maker to have access to 20 million viewers hourly to see my work and hear my voice, about a very important, relevant and current story. This is the digital revolution and I'm a part of it."

"Rap Dreams" is not the only upcoming work that Mastamind Productions, LLC. www.mastamind.com has to boast about. Along with Rap Dreams, Mastamind Productions, LLC has the following working titles tight under their belts: The Black Rock (blackrockfilm.com), a documentary film about the untold story of the African-American experience at Alcatraz and is also being developed into a feature length screenplay. Preparing Legends, a workout DVD by world renowned fitness trainer Raymond Ferris, who has trained and worked out with Barry Bonds, Jerry Rice, Eddie George to name a few.

Epps who has received many accolades including Best Documentary Award (2003) Pan African Film Festival for creating Straight Outta Hunters Point (SOHP) (2003), an award-winning film that garnered critical acclaim and launched Epps into the spotlight. SOHP has been described
as "a raw uncompromising film about the evolution of a black culture dealing with very complex social, economic, environmental and gang-related violence issues.

The "Straight Outta Hunters Point" (SOHP) DVD is available online direct from the director at www.mastamind.com. The site also features other independent titles such as "Sydeways" and "Caubamor". "Sydeways" is a documentary filmed in Oakland, CA, where they call it "The Sideshow"...the newest illegal street sport. "Cubamor" brings viewers
to a colorful and spiritual world, mixing magical realism, surrealism and the immediacy of cinema verite.

In addition to being a devote documentary filmmaker, founder of Mastamind Productions, LLC Epps works with many organizations including Conscious Youth Media, Film Arts Foundation, BAVC, and is a frequent speaker at many forums on digital filmmaking.

Calling All Media, Educators and History Enthusiasts!

Documentary on America's First Black Town Premieres February 28, 2006 in Durham, NC

RALEIGH, NC February 20, 2006 -- The documentary This Side of the River: Self- Determination and Survival in the Oldest Black Town in America premieres Tuesday, February 28, 7 pm in the Performance Hall of the Hayti Heritage Center, 804 Old Fayetteville Street in Durham, North Carolina. The screening is free to the public.
A production of North Carolina Language and Life Project (NCLLP) filmmakers Ryan Rowe and Drew Grimes, This Side of the River tells the inspiring story of Princeville, North Carolina, an almost century-and-a-half old stronghold of Black resistance founded by freed slaves in 1865 and its against-all-odds struggle to rebuild after a flood nearly destroyed the town in the wake of 1999s Hurricane Floyd.

Princeville, built by African-Americans who transformed swampland unwanted by their former owners into livable terrain, is the oldest town in America chartered by Blacks. Since Hurricane Floyd, third in the history of Americas most destructive hurricanes (with 1989s Hurricane Hugo at second and Katrina being first), the historic town triumphantly fought an attempted FEMA buyout which would have wiped Princeville off the map, and is making believers out of naysayers who, wary of the towns ability to survive, publicly rallied against Princeville in favor of the buyout.

This Side of the River also reveals the towns struggles to survive before the flood through decades of racial prejudice and economic hardship. Incorporating interviews with Princeville residents and North Carolina historians, the film offers a rare glimpse into the religious, political and economic culture of one of Americas few remaining all-Black communities.

All media, educators, history buffs and the general public are cordially invited to discover this untold piece of American history. With support from local businesses, community leaders and North Carolina State University entry is free, however donations will be accepted to raise awareness and financial support for the construction of an African-American history museum in Princeville.

The event will open with music by Princeville-area bluesman George Higgs, a Music Maker Foundation artist. Higgs appears on the films score, along with NC Hip Hop heavy hitters Cesar Comanche, L.E.G.A.C.Y. and Median of the Justus League who contributed the films theme track This Side of the River. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with historians and Princeville citizens.

NCLLP is a part of the NC State University Humanities Extension, and is an umbrella organization for carrying out research and educational programs in communities in North Carolina and elsewhere. This Side of the River is the most recent NCLLP production in a series of acclaimed documentaries on the rich culture and heritage of North Carolina communities.

Filmmakers Ryan Rowe and Drew Grimes are immediately available for print, radio, internet and television interviews. Your media support will aid NCLLP in advancing knowledge of important African-American history seldom taught in schools.

For media and other inquiries contact Ryan Rowe at rdrowe@ncsu.edu or 919-515-4151. Broadcast journalists may copy this PSA. Press photos available upon request. To learn more visit about This Side of the River visit TalkingNC.com or Hayti.org.

Wordsmith...The Nu Revolution in Hip Hop and Rock!!!

Wordsmith...The Nu Revolution in Hip Hop and Rock. Nothing but vintage Hip-Hop,Wordsmith's music has a classical, yet early 90's feel while his rock is a garage bands worst nightmare...

Baltimore, MD (PRWEB) February 21, 2006 -- If you grew up a fan of such artists like Eric B. & Rakim, A tribe called Quest, Black Sheep, Public Enemy, Gangstarr, and Nas...then WORDSMITH is your fix. His unreleased debut albums, Classic Material and Rockstrumentals, will be dropping on the same day in two separate genres of music when a record label situation is secured. The Hip-Hop album, Classic Material, is somewhat of a throwback to the golden era of hip-hip (92-96) with its lyrical nature (Rakim), its revolutionary sound (Public Enemy), and storytelling roots (Slick Rick). The rock side of the album, Rockstrumentals, is a new age experiment between Rock and Hip-hop. Run-DMC may have done walk this way in the late 90's with Aerosmith, but this album takes a real MC and puts his lyrics to hardcore rock beats. Currently, Wordsmith is releasing his official mix album, Statements & Stipulations sponsored by DJ 730 from HipHopgame.com.

Statements & Stipulations is considered a mixtape; mix album and studio album all rolled into one. Building off of Wordsmiths love for storytelling and old school cartoons, he put himself in the shoes of a rap super hero called Wordsmith tha Great. Through 4 episodes on the mix album; he has the task of saving the rap game from 3 MCs poisoning Hip-Hop with the Pop Rap of today. Word battles the likes of MC Arsonist, who is responsible for burning all the greatest old school records ever created, MC Ginsui, who is the master of off-beat flows/rhymes that make no sense and have no concepts, and MC Wisdom, who has ties to Wordsmith and is the mastermind behind replacing the essence of Hip-Hop with Pop Rap.

18 original tracks deep, this project is very experimental by the variety of tracks touching the east coast/party heads (Ode to tha Pioneers & Pleasure Palace), west coast lifestyle (Hydrolic Theory), and down south crunk (Countdown). It is not in Wordsmiths repertoire to do some of the tracks on this mix album, but the opportunity to touch the many places hes lived was a welcomed challenge. Noticeable, Wordsmith is using this mix album as a platform to show the industry that he can create mainstream bangers along with potent album tracks. Continuing with the title of the mix album, Word also chose the title, Statements & Stipulations, as a means to make statements and place certain stipulations on the game with each and every track. Stocked with 3 to 4 legit singles, Wordsmith would like to set a new bar for DJs and MCs dropping mixtape projects in the future. Moreover, Words love for classical beats and 90s era hip-hop are not prevalent on this project, but his diversity and capability to do music that define a certain culture are in the forefront.

The Biggest Names in Music Sound Off on the Industry in New Documentary, 'ALL WE ARE SAYING'

Premiering March 8 at 8 P.M. on SHOWTIME

David Crosby, Peter Gabriel, Gwen Stefani, will.i.am & 50 Other Music Icons Discuss State of Industry, Inspirations & Life Behind the Mic

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Nearly 55 of the biggest names in music deliberate on the current state of the industry, work/life balance, and their personal inspirations in the revealing new documentary ALL WE ARE SAYING, premiering on SHOWTIME on Wednesday, March 8 at 8 p.m. PT/ET. The film is actor/director Rosanna Arquette's follow-up to her widely praised directorial debut, SEARCHING FOR DEBRA WINGER, which premiered on SHOWTIME in 2003 and featured Jane Fonda, Salma Hayek, Sharon Stone and others, discussing ageism in the mostly male-dominated entertainment industry.

(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20060131/SHOWTIMELOGO )

In ALL WE ARE SAYING, which premiered to acclaim at last year's Tribeca Film Festival, Rosanna Arquette uses her accessible, reverential interview style to provoke brilliant insight from an eclectic mix of artists. Revealing moments include:

* David Crosby on how A&R reps at the present handful of media
conglomerates " ... wouldn't know a [good] song if it flew up their
nose(s) and died."

* Steven Tyler discussing how internet downloading has greatly diminished
the Aerosmith catalog value.

* Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders on wearing a nursing bra while rocking
out onstage.

* Jimmy Iovine, Chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M, on why hip-hop has
trounced rock 'n' roll, and how Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg are today's Mick
Jagger and Keith Richards.

* Joni Mitchell reveals why she feels one of her biggest hits as a
songwriter, "Both Sides Now" (made famous by Judy Collins), is a
failure and how contracting polio compelled her to become an artist.

"I love music and wanted to sit down with some of the people I admire and discuss what keeps them going -- the balance between art and life, the state of the art of music today and what inspires them," said Arquette. "Most true artists care about music as a pure, passionate art form, but can get caught in the trap of the business which, sadly, has now become more important than the artist or even the music itself."

Best known for her star-making turn opposite Madonna in 1985's DESPERATELY SEEKING SUSAN, Arquette has acted in nearly 80 films, including Quentin Tarantino's PULP FICTION (1994) and John Sayles' BABY IT'S YOU (1983). In 1999, she starred in Alison Anders' SUGAR TOWN, a look at the tarnished lives of struggling L.A. rockers. The self-professed music addict even had two hit songs penned about her: the 1989 Peter Gabriel classic, "In Your Eyes," and Toto's 1982 number one song, "Rosanna." Currently, she is guest starring on Season 3 of SHOWTIME's provocative series THE L WORD(R), and on the upcoming ABC series, WHAT ABOUT BRIAN? She is a third generation member of the famous acting family that includes her grandfather (Cliff), father (Lewis), and younger siblings (Richmond, Alexis, David and Patricia).

ALL WE ARE SAYING is executive produced by Freddy DeMann and Pilar DeMann for DeMann Entertainment, and produced by Rosanna Arquette for A Flower Child Production, and Kristina Birkmayer. Representing SHOWTIME in the negotiations were Executive Vice President, Program Acquisitions, Planning & Distribution, Matthew Duda, Senior Vice President Film Acquisitions, Gary Garfinkel, and Vice President Program Acquisitions, Larry Greenberg. Tom Hansen and John V. Meigs Jr. of Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren & Richman, L.L.P. and Kent L. Sevener, Senior Vice President and Counsel, Entertainment, SHOWTIME, served as counsel to DeMann Entertainment and Showtime Networks, respectively.

Miss Urban Beauty Pageant

There is a new pageant in town, but its unlike any other, The Miss Urban Beauty Pageant! This pageant features women who have full-figured physiques, community-oriented outlooks with the smarts to build successful careers in Corporate America and they love the hip-hop culture.

Hip-hop has become one of the most popular, profitable music genres and lifestyles in the marketplace today. The hip-hop culture is the basis of billions of dollars in annual sales of clothing, accessories, fragrances, automobiles, spirits, movies and more. A large part of hip-hops appeal is the beautiful models featured in music videos, magazine layouts and other aspects of the culture. Shannon Anderson, founder of the Miss Urban Beauty Pageant, would like to bring urban models to the forefront in a different, more positive light. She says they contribute significantly to the marketability and power of hip-hop, but are usually seen as just a group of pretty girls with glossy lips and voluptuous hips.

We are taking urban models and placing them in a more mainstream setting. The Miss Urban Beauty pageant is designed to break the barriers and stereotypes associated with urban models by giving them more mainstream appeal while still maintaining the integrity of being an urban model. This pageant will be Miss America meets Americas Next Top Model and the Apprentice, Anderson says, and with the expected release of the calendar, DVD, and submission to television networks this pageant is definitely setting the path for major success!

This years Atlanta pageant will be held at the Rialto Theater on Sept. 9th,2006. For more information about the Miss Urban Beauty Pageant, log onto www.MissUrbanBeauty.com.

Music Technology Pioneer Seeks Participants for Education Pilot Program - Midisoft Focuses on Educational Market, Music Education and Technology Tools

Midisoft Corp., a pioneer in the field of music technology, seeks schools for its music technology pilot program, teaching kids about music and technology through an innovative new curriculum.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) February 20, 2006 - Midisoft Corp., has long been a pioneer in the field of music technology and developers of award-winning music software for both the novice and professional musician. Now, the company expands its commitment to develop tomorrows musicians and creative minds through its pilot program for under-funded schools and at-risk youth.

Many music, arts, and technology programs are being cut in public schools today; however Midisoft hopes it can reach those who know that combining music with technology benefits children by cultivating their creative minds, critical thinking skills, and both left and right-brained thought processes. Midisoft is currently looking to donate music technology curriculum suites to schools and organizations that are committed to these endeavors.

The Quickstart Music Series, Midisofts music technology curriculum for school and home use that teaches children to not only about musicology and literature, but also how to play the piano, compose music, and even sequence, record, and share their compositions.

"Students at traditional schools, homeschools, as well as after-school programs and clubs can benefit from working with music and technology," said Monika Martin, Midisofts Director of Music Education Technology. "Participation in music learning activities has a positive correlation with critical thinking, problem solving and long-term memory retention."

More and more schools are moving toward computer-based education and the use of technology in the classroom is expected to explode in the coming years, so its a natural progression to combine both arts and technology instruction. Yet, today music technology has only begun to scratch the surface as a learning, teaching and productivity tool. As teaching tool, music technology will reach more students in schools with limited lab or musical equipment.

"Working with music through computers enhances the students ability to effectively utilize technology and translates to other areas of learning as well. But you dont need a whole huge laboratory to work with your students. One computer is all you need," said Martin.

Quickstart also serves as a resource for educators. While teachers do not need to be musicians, for those who are For teachers who currently construct lessons for band and orchestra using hard copy sheet music and hand entering notes for different parts or creating variations, Quickstart as notation software saves them hours of preparation and editing work for each class and each session.

"It is one of the easiest programs to use and yet it contains many sophisticated bells and whistles that allow us to literally work in any sound medium and make changes quickly so as not to loose the editing momentum," said Linnea Smiths of Whistlewood Studio in Kirbyville, Missouri.

Midisoft recently expanded its educational offerings to include I Read Music with Music Theory software and Peter and the Wolf DVD. Both teach about music while entertaining students and encourage a lifelong love of the musical arts. I Read Music with Music Theory is an innovative two-CD software suite for children, which teaches them the basics of music through interactive games. Peter and the Wolf introduces children to music and the orchestra through Sergei Prokofievs timeless story, complete with colorful animated characters that bring Prokofievs narration to life.

"Children can use music technology and interactive platforms to learn the fundamentals at their own pace and experiment on their own through structured lessons devised by their teachers. Their ability to create motivates them, helps them believe in themselves, and encourages them to take initiative in other areas of their lives. The benefits are invaluable," said Martin.

Schools and organizations who would like to be considered for the Midisoft pilot program should contact Monika Martin at 310-602-5000 or toll free 1-866-MIDISOFT.

In addition, Midisoft is workshopping Quickstart throughout the country. Interested educators can contact Ms. Martin at the information provided above. Teachers can also visit Midisoft at these upcoming conventions: California Association for Music Education Conference, March 2006; and MENC National Convention, April 2006

ST. LOUIS, Feb. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- You may dream of a break-out album going gold like that of Run-D.M.C. in 1984. You may even title the debut album "Already Platinum" like Houston rapper Slim Thug in 2005. Now there's a chance to be the first to go -- titanium?

The Energizer(R) e2(R) Titanium Technology(R) Freestlyin' Music Contest is giving one rising talent the chance to meet Slim Thug at the DUB Auto Show & Concert in Miami, Fla., on April 23, 2006. The AAA Alkaline battery proven to provide more minutes of music than competitive Alkaline batteries in digital audio devices now wants to showcase the music created by the listener.

Between now and March 24, 2006, individuals can test their freestlylin' abilities by visiting MySpace.com/Energizer to enter the online music contest. To enter, contestants need to download the beat, record their original lyrics and upload their completed song. The entry should be no longer than two minutes and no larger than five mega bytes.

Starting April 3, five semi-finalists will have their songs featured on the contest site for their peers to vote down to the top two finalists. The grand prize winner will be selected by celebrity judge, Slim Thug, on April 12. Slim Thug's debut album features Pharell, T.I. and Bon B., while his baritone style has recently appeared in current chart-topping hits of Beyonce and Gwen Stefani.

"I started out by freestylin' over different beats," said Slim Thug. "Energizer's providing an opportunity for other underground talent to prove they have what it takes to, in this case, go titanium. From there, you never know what can happen."

Jennifer Aniston and Diddy: Best Friends?

Friendsation.com a web to mobile social network community recently polled over 20,000 members on which celebrity they would most like to have as a best friend. The winner was America's Sweetheart Jennifer Aniston garnering nearly 33% of the vote. In a close second, Mr. Bad Boy himself Diddy received 26% of the votes.

Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) February 20, 2006 -- A recent European survey has revealed that people will clock up a staggering 363 friends during one's life - but only six of them will be your true friends!

It seems women are more sociable - seeing their friends every 3.5 days, while men catch up with their mates every five days.

What exactly makes someone an absolute best friend over others? Is it there willingness to stand by a person's side at all times?

Friendsation.com a web to mobile social network community recently polled over 20,000 members on which celebrity they would most like to have as a best friend. The winner was America's Sweetheart Jennifer Aniston garnering nearly 33% of the vote.

No data was given as to why Jen was the favorite but given her recent struggles it seems quite possible that people look for someone they feel an emotional connection with when choosing a friend.

Rapper Sean "P. Diddy" Combs came in 2nd with 26% of the vote. Rounding out the list were Gwen Stefani, Courtney Love, Pamela Anderson, her on again off again hubby Tommy Lee, and motocross star Carey Hart.

Based on the members votes, it seems most people wanted a best friend who was down to earth, friendly, not married to Brad Pitt or Jennifer Lopez, and above all loyal when life gets crazy.

How to Go from Zero to Hero on American Idol : Professional Coach Offers Free Branding Advice for Talent Show Contestants

Professional business coach and media commentator Nancy Marmolejo notices that the majority of contestants on American Idol have no idea what their unique brand style is, nor do they understand how important it is to set themselves apart from the rest. She is offering Idol contestants a branding exercise to help bring them out of obscurity and into the spotlight.

Anaheim, CA (PRWEB) February 19, 2006 -- It takes more than singing talent to win over the judges on American Idol, as 4 previous seasons have already shown. Professional business coach and media commentator Nancy Marmolejo notices that the majority of contestants on the show have no idea what their unique brand style is, nor do they understand how important it is to set themselves apart from the rest. She is offering Idol contestants a branding exercise to help bring them out of obscurity and into the spotlight. She suggests that:

1. Contestants identify their key musical influences and write those names on a big piece of paper. Try for at least 3, preferably more.

2. Brainstorm words that describe these influential artists. Use strong adjectives such as soulful, passionate, sophisticated, down to earth. Use a thesaurus and have some family or friends help. Try to create 10 words for each artist and list them on the paper from step 1.

3. Glance over the list and circle the 15 strongest words that you relate to. Then narrow the list to 10, then to 5.

4. What you have left are 5 strong words that can guide you in everything from song selection to wardrobe. Make sure they ring true for you and describe you to a T.

Nancy Marmolejo is the President of Comadre Coaching, a professional service designed to connect creative people to success in work and life. Since 2003, Comadre Coaching has helped hundreds of people turn creative ideas into accomplishments through personal coaching, workshops, articles, podcasts, and other resources. Nancy Marmolejo has appeared in numerous magazines, newspapers, websites and television programs as an expert on creativity, life balance, and success.

Hip Hop Press Newsletter Transfer to FeedBlitz is Complete

As previously stated, starting on Monday you'll be receiving your hip hop press newsletter from hiphoppress(at)netweed(dot)com. The From name will be Hip Hop Press and the subject line will simply be Daily Press Releases.

You do have an option to receive the text version but I think the html version will generally be more enjoyable.

The Bloglet feed has been discontinued.

When I transferred to FeedBlitz from Bloglet (very smooth), two groups of email subscribers were removed in the process:

Anonymous subscribers were removed because we don't know who you are. However, you can register anonymously with FeedBlitz for the new service.

Emails that start with info@ were removed by the FeedBlitz system. I'm not sure if you can reregister using those emails or if you'll have to use a different one. This is all new to me.

I've made the design really simple and will gradually complicate it if I think that's necessary! I haven't viewed my test emails on a Windows system, so I don't know how that will look yet. Although I'll be checking that out this week, please do let me know if any glitches occur and be sure to check your junk/bulk mail if you aren't getting the new newsletter.

As always, contact me if needed:

NEWSWEEK: Kevin Federline Says There Will be 'Shock And Awe' Over his Rap Career

But 'They've Already Said So Much S--t about Me, It Can't Get Any Worse'

Didn't Have Wife Spears Sing on the Album; 'It's, Like, Respect Me First, Then I'll Show You What I've Done with My Wife'

NEW YORK, Feb. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Britney Spears' celebrity husband Kevin Federline tells Newsweek that there will be the "initial shock and awe" over his brand-new thankless role: white-boy rapper. "But they've already said so much s--t about me it can't get worse. 'He hates his children, he treats his wife like dirt, he gets high all day.' If I was that bad, you think anyone, let alone Britney, would put up with it?"

(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20060219/NYSU004 )

Federline has already released his first single "PopoZao" (he calls it "a Brazilian a**-shaker") on his Web site, Kevinfederline.com and it got 2 million hits in eight days. "If my album has even half that attention, watch out," Federline tells Senior Writer Lorraine Ali in the February 27 issue of Newsweek (on newsstands Monday, February 20). "That means everybody out there who loves me still loves me, and everyboy out there who hates me -- well, they're secretly buying it, too."

Federline plans to release his debut -- deal or no deal -- by this spring. And he chose not to have Spears sing on the album. "We have collaborated," he says. "But I'm not gonna put the songs on this album because it's, like, 'Respect me first, then I'll show you what I've done with my wife'."

He also seems less bothered by most of the public scrutiny on him or Spears than he does when the paparazzi focus on his son. "The day we came home from the hospital," he says, "we had 40 cars behind us, and there were another 50 lining the side of the Pacific Coast Highway, all trying to get a shot inside the front window. It felt like they put a ransom on my child. OK, they didn't take my child, but they did put a price tag on his head."

Though he still manages to get out once in a while with the wife, Federline says it's not like it used to be. "Everybody crowds around. I don't have the freedom to run out on the dance floor. When my wife's there, she doesn't care. She'll run out there and she'll be, like, 'Come on!' But it's a display now. It's like, ugh, give me a bottle of Jack Daniel's and let me think about it."

Fedd Hill - Under New Management

Providence, RI, January Fellow business school graduates Thomas Hynes and kyle b. jones have recently joined forces with Fedd Hill, Rhode Islands most energetic and authentic hip-hop act. The Providence-based entrepreneurs met while studying at the Wayne Calloway School of Business and Accountancy at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. With honors, accolades and achievements pouring off their resumes, Hynes and Jones had no shortage of job-offers upon graduation. Even in the recessed economy, the investment banks and accounting firms came calling. Nevertheless, the young men had their hearts set on seeking out job opportunities that offered creativity and flexibility.

After hearing a demo tape of the Providence hip-hop group Fedd Hill, Jones knew that he had found his calling. Fedd Hills demo CD was just lying around the house. I think someone was using it as a coaster or something. I popped it in the player to see what it was and I was astounded by the integrity, loyalty and ambition that came through on each verse. Hynes tracked down the group on the internet to set up a meeting and the rest is history, or at least history in the making.

The new Fedd Hill co-managers estimate that they collectively spend a minimum of 100 hours a week working on behalf of the group. Hynes states, Right now we are helping to build the foundation of a successful business enterprise. We take all the concepts that we learned at Wake Forest University and apply them to the music industry. Jones adds, It is a lot of hard work. Visualizing our long-term rewards motivates us and helps us to persevere when we face adversity, but you learn very quickly that Blood, Sweat, and Tears is not just a group of funky white guys from back in the day.

In fact, the co-managers try to do just as much dirty-work as the rest of the Fedd Hill team members in an effort to show leadership and confidence in the group. Jones elaborates, I really enjoy the challenge of selling CDs out on the streets. You have to really believe in your product to get blown off 100 times in a row and still hold out hope that the next person might be a true hip-hop fan. Even if pretentious people on Thayer street wont stop to hear my spiel, there is something uplifting in knowing that my 1500 SAT score and cum laude honors from a top 25 school paid off since I have a job that I love. I hope that the same comes true for them. Jones social commentary seems loosely veiled, but so too does his passion for Fedd Hill, for hip-hop and for the success that he knows will come. Thomas Hynes and kyle b. jones say that they have given up money and stability in order to work with the Providence hip-hop group Fedd Hill, but perhaps the new co-managers receive much more in return.

Former Cash Money Star B.G. Set to Release "The Heart of Tha Streetz Vol. 2 (I Am What I Am)" on March 21, 2006 on Chopper City Records/KOCH Records

B.G. Reunites With Producer/Friend, Mannie Fresh, on the Explosive New Single, "Move Around" -- Video Set to World Premiere on YAHOO MUSIC! on Monday, February 20th -- Video Airplay Will Start on B.E.T. & MTV Jamz Shortly as Single Explodes at Radio

NEW YORK, NY -- (Market Wire - Feb 17, 2006) -- Former Hot Boy B.G. is set to release his new album, "The Heart of tha Srteez Vol. 2, (I Am What I Am)" on Chopper City Records/KOCH Records on March 21st, 2006. On the album, B.G. decided to get back to his roots by teaming up with former Cash Money producer Mannie Fresh for the hot single "Move Around." The single is already at 1000 spins at Urban Radio and is the fastest growing B.G. single in years.

After establishing himself as one of hip-hop's most visible acts, B.G., virtually disappeared from the scene to battle his personal demons. Focused and recharged, the man whose "Bling Bling" song became a national phenomenon and whose tremendous success as an independent artist helped secure Cash Money Records' landmark deal in the 90's with Universal Records, reunites with Mannie Fresh and returns with his strongest album to date.

A video for "Move Around" featuring Mannie Fresh (shot over 2 days on location in Atlanta and hurricane-ravaged New Orleans) will officially World Premiere on YAHOO MUSIC! this Monday, February 20th. Peep it here: http://music.yahoo.com/promos/premieres/. Concurrently, the video was immediately added to B.E.T. and MTV Jamz where it's expected to start shortly after the Yahoo Music World Premiere. The video was co-directed by Dayo & The Green Room (a.k.a. Gil Green) whose credits include Lil' Jon, Tony Yayo, Akon and many more.

Now, co-CEO of Chopper City Records along with partner and co-CEO, Carol Dorsey, the original Hot Boy, who started his career in his teens, is now a man. "Everything that I've been through qualifies me to be the heart of the streets. Everybody knows my history and my background, so I've got the right to call myself the heart of the streets. I've been in the game since I was 14. This is my tenth solo project; nine solo albums, three Hot Boys albums, and gang of underground discs. I ain't but 25 and I'm already a legend."

With sales of over 7 million albums to his credit, he remains an indomitable figure and a household name especially in the Dirty South, where he is a huge fan-favorite.

While signed to Ca$h Money, B.G. released a string of albums, including "True Story" (1993), "Chopper City" (1997), and 1997's "It's All On U (Volumes 1 and 2)." He further bolstered his status by becoming member of the now legendary Hot Boys (Juvenile, Lil' Wayne, and Young Turk). B.G.'s "Chopper City in the Ghetto" (released in April of 1999), debuted at Number 1 on Billboard's Top 200 Charts. But what really put him on the map was the album's anthem, "Bling Bling," which catapulted B.G. to superstardom. He became a part of history when the term, "bling, bling" used to describe diamonds was added into The Oxford Dictionary, a testament of hip-hop's effect on modern and pop culture.

After releasing his sixth solo album, "Checkmate," B.G. walked away from Ca$h Money and launched his own imprint, Chopper City Records distributed by KOCH. "The Heart of tha Streetz Vol 2 (I Am What I Am)" is the rapper's 4th album with KOCH. It follows "The Heart of Tha Streetz," "Life After Cash Money" and "Livin' Legend" (which is Gold).

B.G. keeps the music of New Orleans alive by reuniting with Mannie Fresh, who is featured on and produces the first single, "Move Around." "I worked with a lotta different producers and most of them are the same producers who I've used before like Mannie, Smurf, KLC, KIDD, Bass Heavy, COE, Law, Mouse, Hush, and Howard. I had to get down with Mannie Fresh on the first single, because he's been a really big part of my success and he's still family." B.G. didn't stop at Mannie, he hit a few other friends on their Sidekicks resulting in collaborations with Paul Wall, Webbie, and The Chopper City Boyz.

Although he now calls Detroit his second home, B.G. still reps for the 504, the area code of his beloved city, New Orleans. If you think he's forgotten where he's from after stackin' that paper, he reminds you on the hook of "Move Around," that "I'm from the ghetto homey, I was raised on bread and baloney," keeping his heart and lyrics straight from the heart and in the streets of the Valence & Magnolia and 13th Ward sections of New Orleans. If you think New Orleans, is down for the count, B.G. emphatically says, "Let it be known that Chopper City is here!"

Lushlife doesnt share your Hip-Hop is dead sentiment. Maybe because hes listened to Illmatic so many times lately that the record has been reduced to dust; but more likely because the last decade or so has been a series of grand obsessions over his own output. Since the early nineties, Lush has honed his craft with an almost monastic drive. His pre-teen years being spent hovering over turntables for hours a day, perfecting a precocious mixing and scratching style that spanned a wide array of genres and would later become emblematic of New York Citys downtown lounge culture.

True to classic Hip-Hop progression, as a teenager in the mid-to-late nineties, Lushlife flowered from downtown New York record selector to prodigious producer and beat-smith. His early instrumental work covered at least as much ground as his DJ sets, deftly shifting between genres as singular as Downtempo, House, Hip-Hop and Doo-Wop.

Lushs sizeable musical reach is as much a by-product of the lessons learned train-wrecking beats for eager audiences, as it is a result of a strict and formal musical education. He has 13 years of classical piano training, having studied from the age of 5, along with an intense 7-year course in Jazz kit drumming. Along the way hes arranged for Jazz combos and performed on street-corners, at Manhattans prestigious Steinway Hall and everywhere in between. Lush went on to study music at university, where after a year spent crestfallen and destroyed, he got out of bed to turn Hip-Hop out.

At the age of twenty, Lush found his voice. Unable to find emcees to suit his vision, he put his teenage lunch-table flowing ability to the test by writing rhymes to his own beats. What came out was a natural flow, a testament to a decade-plus love affair with hip-hop.

Not content with just producing his own tracks, Lushlife kept us entertained with an intricate reworking of the Beach Boys pop classic 'Pet Sounds' alongside the multi-platinum vocals of hip hop's MVP Kanye West, aptly titled, West Sounds. This mash up mix was hailed as the seasons 'Grey' album, having had over 250,000 online downloads (and counting) in just over a month after its release.

Lushlifes debut single, No Foundation was a tasty, summer time slice of East Coast rhythm making and the talented producer serves up the easy flowing flavour in 2006 with this self-produced, self-written highly touted debut LP, Order of Operations. The full-length, which Lush thinks of as his teenage symphony to Hip-Hop, blurs our sense of time by evoking emotions that we tie to Hip-Hops past whilst making a small step towards Hip-Hops future.

Written, produced, and performed entirely by the artist himself, Order of Operations reveals Lushlifes optimistic vision of Hip-Hop.

Some words of praise for Westsounds:

Enthralling example of the DJ/producers art Independent.
The result is as soothing as a Hawaiian shirt flapping in the breeze. Times Knowledge
Academic exercise that bridges the cultural divide Daily Mirror
Unlikely but brilliant The Sun

New York (PRWEB) February 18, 2006 -- Thirteen-year-old Young Jinsu, the next teen king of Hip Hops royal kingdom joins Jay-Z and other top celebrities in a live performance during The Roc La Familia All-Star Lockdown 2006 on Saturday, February 18, 2006 at Houstons George Bush Convention Center.

Invited to join music industry ALLSTARS during The Roc La Familia All-Star Lockdown 2006 with Jay-Z because of his tight lyrics and rambunctious stage performance, Jinsus infectious energy is impossible to ignore.

Having recently completed songs with Ja-Kwon, Chris Brown and producer Lil Ronnie, Jinsus unique charm and undeniable talent has the music industry raising its eyebrows as he and his management team Four Kings Productions decide where the young rapper will call home.

According to Four Kings Productions CEO, Doug Biggs Ellison, the energetic teen is, fearless when it comes to rocking the mic...he has the perspective of a seasoned adult, yet maintains the refreshing optimism of a child.

His show stopping stage presence also snatched the attention of P. Diddy, who brought Jinsu to the stage in Boston where he held his own with the likes of Fabulous and Craig David.

This special young prince is far beyond his years in wisdom, yet humble, hopeful and full of promise. Its easy for anyone who encounters him to see Jinsu is more than just young and sharp, but ready to reign.
