Even more surprising, Missy will reveal details of the abuse she received at the hands of both her father and a cousin. Quickies: Bow Wow's Tokyo Flick, PE Goes Mobile with New Whirl Odor, Canadian Urban Music Awards
Bow Wow's Tokyo FlickThough Bow Wow's Roll Bounce didn't do as well as hoped, he's currently working on The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, which should do much better. The third of The Fast and the Furious series, Tokyo Drift is slated for a summer 2006 release. Bow Wow is also preparing for the release of a collector's edition CD/DVD of Wanted entitled Wanted: Reloaded. Source: Bow Wow Kicks It Into Overdrive With 'Fast And Furious'. PE Goes Mobile with New Whirl OdorThough Public Enemy doesn't top the charts like they did in the 80s, they're still breaking new ground. With the recent release of their latest album New Whirl Odor, PE is taking their music to cellphones in the form of full track downloads, ringtones and wallpapers, all related to the album. MC and Public Enemy leader Chuck D became involved with the Internet during the late 90s boom and has also created voicetones prior to developing a full mobile package for New Whirl Odor. Quickies: UK Hip Hop, Benzino Charged, Thanksgiving Flicks
UK Hip HopAs UK hip hop builds, lots of folks are wondering when the newer artists, such as Lethal Bizzle and Wiley, will break through into the big time. Though some Brit rappers feel they should be getting more UK tv and radio play, others believe it's a matter of artists stepping up their game. Roll Deep Collective leader Wiley says it may take another four years for his and other acts to make it to million selling status. Source: Is UK on verge of Brithop boom?. Benzino ChargedBenzino, the wannabe rapper who makes hip hop news due to his involvement with The Source magazine, is now facing charges of tax evasion. Benzino is accused of not filing federal tax returns for 1999 to 2000, though he is said to have earned $1.5 million during that time. Apparently the FBI was checking Benzino out quite closely and, so far, these charges are the primary result of that investigation. Thanksgiving FlicksThe Thanksgiving weekend box office take resulted in two hip hop related movies in the top 10 while 50 Cent's flick dropped a bit lower. Usher's In The Mix debuted at no. 9 with a weekend take of $4.5 million while Derailed, with appearances by RZA and Xzibit, topped it at no. 8 with a box office of $4.7 million. 50 Cent's Get Rich or Die Tryin' dropped to no. 14 with a respectable take of $2.1 million, give or take a few thousand. Quickie: 50 Canadian Cent
Though a Canadian politician has been attempting to get 50 Cent banned from entering Canada due to his criminal record, it may be difficult at the present time. The attempt to ban 50 has resulted in widespread debate and a statement from Immigration officials that they have no plans to do so at this time. In fact, 50 Cent may have a current entry permit since he was in Toronto last summer where parts of Get Rich or Die Tryin' were filmed. Source: Fiddy beats Canada's rap. Quickies: Banner Raises $500k, American Music Awards, T.I.'s Club Crucial
Banner Raises $500kDavid Banner has raised over $500,000 for survivors of Hurricane Katrina and he's disappointed that this accomplishment is not getting serious media attention. Banner feels that such deeds should be publicized as examples of what young black men are capable of creating. Rappers have continued to make donations as well as appearing in September's Heal the Hood Benefit Concert organized by Banner. Source: MTV News. American Music AwardsMariah Carey may have won only one award at last night's American Music Awards, but at least she was there to pick it up. The Black Eyed Peas, who won two awards, as well as winners 50 Cent and Eminem were all no shows. However, Missy Elliott was on hand to receive the award for favorite female rap/hip-hop artist for the second year in a row. She dedicated her award to the memory of Aaliyah. Source: BBC News. T.I.'s Club CrucialT.I. is opening a new nightclub in Atlanta called Crucial on November 28. Although T.I. has already gotten into housing construction, this is his first nightclub. Apparently Crucial's location is near where T.I. used to take care of business before he got into the rap game. Source: MTV's Mixtape Monday. Quickies provided by Hip Hop Reporter.

Hip Hop Albums Update: RZA, Nelly, Pharrell, Outkast
Both the soundtrack for Derailed and Nelly's Sweatsuit were also released November 22nd. Although I think RZA was primarily focused on acting in the movie Derailed, he did executive produce the soundtrack. I saw a listing for Nelly's Sweatsuit and it didn't register at first that it is a combination of popular tracks from Sweat and Suit and three new releases including the single Grillz featuring Paul Wall and Ali & Gipp with production by Jermaine Dupri. Pharrell's In My Mind has been pushed back from a December release to a possible release in February. So far, no official reasons have been announced. The soundtrack to IdleWild by Outkast has also been delayed indefinitely. Available from Amazon:RZA (Executive Producer) - Derailed [Soundtrack]Nelly - Sweatsuit.

Quickies: Tom Green Raps?, RZA, 50 Movie $
Tom Green Raps?Earlier claims that comedian Tom Green is putting a rap act together are no joke with a Canadian tour planned for January. Though Green says they're taking the music seriously, descriptions of lyrical content lead to the conclusion that he hasn't left comedy behind. One of the more interesting sounding tracks is called My Bum is on Your Lips, titled for a line in an Eminem song that references Green's Bum Bum song from an MTV appearance. Source: CTV.ca. RZA, 50 Movie $Derailed, the new movie with RZA and Xzibit in supporting roles, took in over $6.5 mil putting it in 4th place for weekend box office, far behind Harry Potter's $100 mil plus debut. 50 Cent's new movie Get Rich or Die Tryin' took in over $4.4 mil in weekend box office estimates, taking 7th place. In the last two weeks, Derailed has taken in over $21.8 mil while Get Rich or Die Tryin' is leading that race with $24.5 mil. Source: KING5.com. Quickies provided by Hip Hop Reporter.

Game & DreThough 50 Cent said it would never happen, The Game says he's working with Dr. Dre on his next album, The Dr.'s Advocate, set for an April release. Additional production is expected from Kanye West, Just Blaze, Timbaland, Scott Storch and Cool & Dre. Game has also recruited rocker neighbors Benji and Joel Madden of Good Charlotte. Source: Game Working On The Dr.'s Advocate With ... You Guessed It ... . DMX JailedThough DMX heaped on the apologies, a judge still gave him 10 extra days for disrespect. Friday's hearing puts DMX behind bars for 70 days through Thanksgiving and Christmas. Hip Hop Logic: Phase 3
Hip Hop Logic is going into a third phase. After a long early life as a personal blog full of rants and reviews, including an earlier version begun in Austin, and a brief interim period of less reviews, the appearance of guest writers and the addition of new album releases, now Hip Hop Logic is changing into something else. In the future, you'll continue to see the weekly roundup of new album releases taken from Hip Hop Albums. I hope you'll occasionally see guest writers like Rahiem Shabazz and Maj Toure. And every now and then you'll see a review of something I've seen, heard or read, primarily for personal rather than promotional purposes. But the guests and reviews will probably be few and far between based on what passes for Phase 2, an interim period in which Hip Hop Logic threatened to disappear. The biggest change that will supply a new source of regular posts will be the addition of news items from Hip Hop Reporter. Instead of the roundups of alternative news I used to do in Phase One, now you'll be getting daily bits of hip hop news about famous people, not the most important thing in the world but entertaining nonetheless. I may also begin adding things like links to promo audio and video feeds for upcoming and new releases, though such feeds probably won't become a regular feature until early next year. Since so many people come to Hip Hop Logic via searches for "hip hop albums", I think finding some additional material that will interest or be of use to the vast majority of my visitors would be a good thing. Other stuff may just appear without a fancy announcement like this one. What I don't expect to see return are the regular reviews of hip hop albums or the rants and political commentary that characterized much of this blog's output from its beginning in September 2002 to some point this year when ProHipHop began to take over my life. But I'm not changing gears simply because I've run out of time to do the kind of writing I used to do here at Hip Hop Logic. The reality is, I've never enjoyed being a reviewer and am glad to leave most of that behind. And it also seemed quite clear that most of what I said here politically was reaching only a tiny audience and was perhaps not even that important to those folks. It's not that I didn't get periodic response to what I was trying to say and, on the basis of what I did here, some hip hop bloggers did reach out and include me in their conversations, which was a great thing. But most of the relationships that developed via Hip Hop Logic are now much stronger in relationship to ProHipHop. In fact, my approach at ProHipHop seems more accessible to folks, whether I'm looking at the moral and political dimensions of business or giving another angle on the news due to my business orientation. The truth is, when I dug into issues most dear to my heart and drew most strongly on the anarchist and poststructural tendencies that inform my critique, I most often encountered a deep silence or disinterest and discovered that most left/lib bloggers, hip hop purists and sarcastic cynics just aren't interested in questioning the foundations of their beliefs or looking beyond the well established games that ensure the perpetuation of the status quo. Or maybe most folks just didn't need a Postmodern Anarchist writing about hip hop. Fortunately, that's ok. Even better, we've now got Adisa Banjoko at netweed writing Holla at a Scholar!! and dropping political insights and personal rants that are far more grounded in hip hop than anything I ever wrote at this blog. So, with most of my time going to ProHipHop, I think that Hip Hop Logic can remain a useful source of information about hip hop and, when I have something I want to promote, this can be a channel for that as well, from welcoming Adisa Banjoko to netweed to reviewing whatever hip hop book I've managed to read in my spare time to running a guest editorial from somebody who's got something to say.
