About CIMF:
The ConneXion International Music Festival (CIMF) was founded in 2003 by Leslie Rovero. Rovero attended several festivals with artists that she managed only to discover that the organizers paid more attention to making money than to artist development. Soon after, the CIMF became a reality. Last years inaugural festival in Jacksonville, Florida featured more than 100 artists and industry representatives from all over the world. CIMF was so successful that they were approached by several different sponsors in different cities all offering to host this years festival. But our focus has always been on the artists and the overwhelming feedback that we received was for two annual festivals. CIMF East in Florida and CIMF West in Las Vegas.

The festival provides a platform to discover and develop new talent and promises to give exposure to a diverse range of promising performers. Artists from all over the world have the chance to showcase their talents and network with invited A&R executives, producers, publishers, music journalists, talent scouts, casting agents and filmmakers. Musical genres include Pop, Rock, Hip-Hop, R&B, Rap, Reggae, Latin, Folk, Country, Gospel ..all genres.

Follow The Tracks to Songs From The Underground: NYC Subway

A Compilation Featuring the Best NYC Subway Performers

New York(PRWEB) July 8, 2005 --Headset Productions, a New York based artist development company, is set to release "Songs from the Underground: NYC Subway" late this summer.

The album, which will be distributed nationally through traditional and alternative outlets, is a compilation disc of musicians and artists who share their talents with commuters and hone their craft in the subways of New York City.

"Songs from the Underground: NYC Subway" is a full length CD that features eleven of the most impressive subway performers, represented in a raw, striped down context with the intent of bringing the vibrant live music from the underground to the mainstream surface. Mixed by Grammy Award winning Engineer Joe Blaney (The Clash, Prince, Soul Asylum), the album features an eclectic variety of music including acoustic hip-hop, Finnish a cappella, Haitian folk music, and much more, all of which is presented in a cohesive live context.

Spokinn Movement, a hip-hop collective reminiscent of the Native Tongue's sound, brings lyrical freshness combined with driving melodies to two tracks on the album. "Central Park", performed by singer-songwriter Krystle Warren is a romantic folk song that showcases her earthy, soulful voice, also heard on the song "Sparkle and Fade." Another highlight is Theo Eastwind, whose raw, emotive material has led him to sell over ten thousand self-released albums to commuters and earned him comparisons to Jeff Buckley and Nick Drake. These artists, combined with the many other genres heard on the album, deftly reflect the diversity of New York City.

Taylor Davis and Federico Evangelista, founding partners of Headset, spent six months listening and talking to over fifty subway performers. They also attended MUNY (Music Under New York) auditions and developed criteria for selections such as the need for original material and the desire for musicians to present their music in a professional light. "Busking performers have a passion and drive to present their music, on their terms, at all costs. That passion and drive deserves to be recognized," says Davis. A percentage of the profits from Songs from the Underground: NYC Subway will be donated to New York Cares, a non-profit organization, which provides hands-on volunteer service to NYC residents.

Headset Productions will host a series of live concerts in support of the album during the months of July and August at Union Square NYC. An official release party is planned at Joe's Pub at the end of the summer. Releases from solo artists featured on Songs from the Underground: NYC Subway are coming within in the next two years. Headset also hosts monthly music showcases at the Living Room in Manhattan, three of which will be aired by BBC radio in mid-June.

Partners Taylor Davis and Federico Evangelista formed Headset Productions in August 2004. Their primary objective is artist development and longevity in the marketplace. For more information please visit:,

About Jermaine Dupri

Jermaine "JD" Dupri knows about diversity. As an executive producer, the Atlanta-based music mogul oversaw Usher's blockbuster Confessions album, which has sold nearly 9 million copies and in 2005 earned the Grammy for Best Contemporary R&B album. As CEO of So So Def Recordings, he's helmed the release of dozens of platinum and gold albums. As a producer and songwriter, Dupri has helped shape hits for Usher, Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey and others. He's also crafted platinum albums for himself. In 1992, when he was just 19, an age when most people are trying to figure out what to do with their lives, Dupri founded So So Def. He struck multi-platinum with Kris Kross and soon established himself as a premier R&B, rap and pop hitmaker and launching the careers of Da Brat, Bow Wow, Jagged Edge, Anthony Hamilton, J-Kwon and many more through the label and his direction. In April 2005, Dupri assumed the position of President of Black Music at Virgin Records.

With all these accomplishments, it is no wonder that other entities want to be in business with Jermaine Dupri. One such company is 3 Vodka Distilling Co., a Chicago-based business that named him a partner and owner in May 2004. 3 Vodka is the only vodka in the world made from soy and Dupri has been using his knowledge of hip-hop culture and the music industry to help increase 3 Vodka's international profile.

Even with his position at Virgin, his work with 3 Vodka and the opening of Cafe Dupri, Jermaine is not slowing down as a producer. He co-wrote and produced the smash hits "We Belong Together," and "It's Like That," which have helped catapult songbird Mariah Carey back to the top of the charts. With tens of millions of albums sold to his credit, scores of awards and a list of music industry accomplishments that are as distinguished as they are remarkable, Dupri is anxious to continue making history. He hopes to make So So Def a billion dollar company, establish 3 Vodka as the world's premier vodka and expand Cafe Dupri into a franchise that has restaurants in New York, Japan and elsewhere. Dupri's body of work represents a multi-layered approach that illustrates his visionary business acumen. This year ASCAP honored him with the R&B Songwriter of the Year Award and the Golden Note Award, for his groundbreaking achievements influencing the direction of American popular music and impacting the heart, soul and sound of pop music worldwide.

LOS ANGELES, CA; LONDON; and GLENEAGLES, SCOTLAND -- (Market Wire - Jul 07, 2005) - The simultaneous outpouring of support, text messaging and Web signups sent to Live 8 headquarters in London, as announced at Live 8 Philadelphia Saturday, represents the largest real-time petition ever, according to Live 8's US mobile and wireless producer Ralph Simon, CEO of mobile advisory firm, Mobilium. ( The tally of 26.4 million messages sent to the G8 is a tapestry of text messages, mobile and traditional email messages and Web signups, with further breakdowns by category and country still being aggregated and compiled.

Representatives from America Online (a sponsor and Internet broadcaster of Live 8, which itself set a record of 5 million video downloads for the event), Nokia (another major sponsor) and Sun Microsystems (which provided some of the technology infrastructure for the mobile messaging component) joined Simon at a packed Live 8 backstage press conference where the preliminary tallies were announced. Simon today reiterated the importance of this development, calling on G8 leaders to take note of the significant number of constituents who messaged their support. Three other companies that played a vital role in facilitating the global messaging campaign were USA Wireless, Minick Group in London and Europe and Starcut of Finland.

"The original Live Aid in 1985 raised more than $100 million from tens of thousands of individuals and sponsors," said Simon, "whereas twenty years later, Live 8 has raised the awareness of as many as 2 to 3 billion viewers around the globe on the urgent issue of world hunger and poverty, and in doing so has mobilized more than 25 million messagers to demand their leaders increase aid by some $25 billion. This high-volume response would not have been able to take place twenty years ago without the combination of mobile and Internet technologies."

Simon, who currently serves as chairman of the Mobile Entertainment Forum (MEF) Americas, was drafted in to provide the global mobile layer to the Live 8 events that took place in ten cities on July 2nd. Popularly known as one of the founders of the modern ring tone business, Simon has a close working relationship with Sir Bob Geldof and Bono of U2, as well as Live 8 USA executive producers Tim Sexton and Kevin Wall. This unparalleled cooperation between the music, entertainment and technology industries in itself sends a powerful, unified message to the G8, now underway.

Simon is regarded as one of the world's leading authorities on mobile entertainment and has been active in the mobile entertainment space for the past seven years. Prior to that he had a successful career in the entertainment industry, co-founding the pioneering Zomba group of companies and Jive Records, as well as YourMobile/Moviso (now InfoSpace Mobile). He currently advises on mobile strategy for major entertainment and content companies. He is credited with coining the new science of "mociology" (the sociology of mobile lifestyles) and "mocio-economics" (the underlying economics that drives the fast emergence of mobile entertainment revenues and economics).

UnAuthorized Entertainment and GigUrban are launching a nationwide search for America's hottest undiscovered rap, hip-hop and R&B talent

GigUrban will produce the 10-city showcase event series in markets throughout the U.S. in 2005 with one artist receiving a record deal from the Warner-distributed UnAuthorized Entertainment

The showcases will be co-produced by local hip-hop or event promoters in each market. Invited participants will be screened and selected through a music submission process administered by UnAuthorized/Asylum/Warner label reps and showcase production partner GigUrban. Aspiring artists are encouraged to visit www.GigUrban .com for submission guidelines and other details. The submission period will vary according to the Showcase schedule. Showcase dates and locations will be announced as they become available on the GigUrban Web site and various news sites later this month. The entire Showcase Series will run through May 2006.

"GigAmerica/GigUrban has been one of the premier independent music resources in the country," said UnAuthorized president and A&R executive Selim Bouab. "There are plenty of worthy artists."

"Unlike last years showcase series, this year we will have a clear winner. Someone is getting a record deal out of all this", said Prodigy the Houston-based national showcase coordinator for GigUrban. He added, "Last year we promised to put a major label A&R representative in rooms across the US and we did that. This year an artist will actually be signed at the Las Vegas finale."

Roughly 20 acts per night will be heard by UnAuthorized/Asylum/Warner A&R reps, who will fly from New York City to attend each of the 10 showcases. Announced cities that will host Warner Bros. Urban showcases include Boston, Virginia Beach, Charlotte, Birmingham, Montgomery, Jackson, Louisville, New Orleans, Orlando, Miami, Houston, Dallas, Memphis, San Antonio, Chicago, St. Louis, Kansas City, Columbus, Detroit, Denver, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Answers to Death of Rapper Notorious B.I.G. Presented in Hit Film, 'Chronicles of the Junior M.A.F.I.A.' From Hannover House

DVD now available at Wal-Mart and other key retailers

LOS ANGELES, July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. District Court Judge Florence Marie Cooper declared a mistrial yesterday in the Notorious B.I.G. wrongful death lawsuit after expressing concern that the Los Angeles Police Department had deliberately withheld evidence from the court. But much of the missing evidence has been publicly accessible through the hit video, Chronicles Of The Junior M.A.F.I.A. from Hannover House and Ground Zero Entertainment.

The latest court ruling adds new fuel to the national debate over the circumstances and conspiracy that led to the murder of Christopher Wallace, aka "Notorious B.I.G." in Los Angeles on March 9, 1997. Family members and close associates claim that former LAPD Officer David Mack arranged to have Wallace killed at the request of Death Row Records founder Marion "Suge" Knight and that LAPD officials covered up Mack's involvement. Judge Cooper's declaration of a mistrial supports the family's position that the LAPD has been uncooperative in releasing evidence which implicates former and current officers.

"This is a profound development," said April Maiya, director of the film, Chronicles of the Junior M.A.F.I.A. "We had been among the first to present evidence of the conspiracy and cover-up, but it's taken the spotlight of this lawsuit to bring this truth to the public's attention. For the LAPD to withhold evidence from a Federal Court proceeding is inexcusable, but it's completely consistent with the information and interviews presented in our film," she concluded.

Chronicles of the Junior M.A.F.I.A. investigates the circumstances leading up to the murder of Notorious B.I.G., including the subsequent breakup between Lil' Kim and the hip-hop group, Junior M.A.F.I.A. The film also features rare footage of rap music superstars and exclusive music tracks on both the DVD and a companion audio CD. The film was originally released in 2004, but has enjoyed a powerful surge in sales in recent months in the wake of publicity surrounding the wrongful death lawsuit. The film was produced by Anthony J. Perez, with Executive Producers April Maiya and James "Lil Cease" Lloyd.

"This film is entertaining on many levels," said Eric Parkinson, President of Hannover House, one of the film's principal distributors. "It presents an insightful look into the world of rap music, while uncovering evidence of a major conspiracy of historic significance. On an entertainment level, the abundant music and rap-stars featured in the film set a lively pace that balances the otherwise intense nature of the material," Parkinson continued.

Chronicles of the Junior M.A.F.I.A. is available on DVD from Hannover House and Ground Zero Entertainment. The DVD package features a bonus music CD from the Junior M.A.F.I.A. The film is unrated, but censored for language and suitable for viewing by mainstream audiences. Major retailers, including Wal-Mart and Best Buys, are carrying the program, which has a suggested retail price of $14.95. The DVD is also available through a variety of on-line retailers, including and The UPC Item number is 6- 9479570702-4.

Waxploitation to Launch 2nd Sudan Charity Auction; Items donated by Angelina Jolie, Radiohead, BAM Margera, OutKast and More

Waxploitation, Inc. will soon launch a Sudan charity auction with items from Angelina Jolie, OutKast, Eminem, Radiohead and more.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) July 6, 2005 -- Waxploitation, Inc. announced today it will launch its second online auction to assist victims of the 'ethnic cleansing' taking place in the African country of Sudan, a dire situation that the UN has called one of the worst humanitarian crises the world faces right now.

The auction will launch on eBay on July 12th at and will include rare and signed items donated by Angelina Jolie, OutKast, Eminem, Radiohead, BAM Margera, Bjork, Kanye West, Serena Williams, Trent Reznor (NIN), Beastie Boys, System of a Down, Shepherd Ferry, Nelly, REM, Phish, Ciara, Atmosphere, (Grateful) Dead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, David Banner, Chad Muska, Sum41, Sage Francis, Will Oldham, Foo Fighters, Dropkick Murphys, Nappy Roots, Paulina Rubio, Rob Zombie, They Might Be Giants, John Legend, Prince and Metallica amongst many others. Over 100 items will be auctioned.

In May, a number of major news organizations estimated that up to 400,000 people have been murdered and more than 2 million people have been displaced from their homes by Sudanese government backed militias called the Janjaweed. The genocide is a massive campiagn to rid the Dafur region of its African population. It has been a widespread and systematic campaign of rape, murder, looting and displacement of villagers.

"We've learned a lot since our auction earlier this year," says Jeff Antebi, founder and creative director of Waxploitation. "This time, we are working towards not just raising money for relief organizations, but also putting together a nationwide petition demanding that the Senate and White House take definitive action against the Sudanese government. It seems like every time there's a moment for this horror to finally be addressed, something overshadows it in the news media. So we're going to shake the trees ourselves and create a way for people to take real action."

Earlier this year, Waxploitation released a CD titled Genocide in Sudan with featured artists including Gorillaz, System of a Down, Jurassic 5, Danger Mouse & Murs, Yoko Ono, Thievery Corporation and Jill Scott to name a few. Dvd: New Release - Inner City Streetball Vol. 1

Entertainment Unlimited LLC presents Inner City Streetball Vol. 1. This dvd takes you into the world of streetball. The dvd is hosted by Hannibal and Black of GhettoNomics. GhettoNomics is an underground hip hop show that has been airing in New York City for over ten years.

Inner City Streetball show cases streetball footage from celebrity and tournament games played in NYC, CT, NJ, CA, FL & NC. The dvd features ballers such as Shane the Dribbling Machine, High Octane, Headache, Helicopter, AO and the Pharmacist too name a few. If you're a Pharmacist fan you'll love this tape. It gives you an insight into his background as well as a lot of crazy highlights of him just straight out embarrassing people.

The GhettoNomics crew also caught up with High Octane after a tournament game in the Bronx, New York. In this segment you are shown highlights of High Octane doing what he does best, attacking the rim with an assortment of slam dunks. The dvd also brings you fast moving segments like tournament time where various inner city tournament clips are shown, block party where sticks and monster blocks are shown and lay up line where dunks of all kinds are displayed.

This is not your regular streetball mixtape though mainly because it features a lot of interviews and freestyles by well known Hip Hop artists like Jay Z, The Roots, Wu Tang Clan members Rza / ODB and Prodigy from Mobb Deep. Bonus feature includes a video montage featuring Big Pun. The Jay Z segment is a must see for hip hop heads as a young Hov is profiled dropping jewels about the industry. "BOYZ N DA HOOD" Debuts With #5 Entry on Billboard 200; Also Ranks as #1 R&B/Hip-Hop Album in the Country

NEW YORK, NY--(MARKET WIRE)--Jul 1, 2005 -- "BOYZ N DA HOOD," the debut album from Bad Boy/Block Entertainment recording artists Boyz N Da Hood, has made an explosive premiere on the Billboard 200 -- entering the chart at an impressive #5 with-a-bullet, and ranking as this week's highest debut. With more than 101,000 units sold in its first week, "BOYZ N DA HOOD" is also the #1 album on both Billboard's "Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums" and "Top Rap Albums" charts. The collection -- which features the hit single "Dem Boyz" -- is the first release from the new joint venture between Bad Boy Entertainment and Warner Music Group.

"Dem Boyz" continues to blow up at Urban radio, coming in this week at #15 with-a-bullet, while also ranking among the format's top 5 Most Increased Plays. The single has also bulleted into the top 20 on Billboard's "R&B/Hip-Hop Songs" listing and is climbing the charts at CHR/Rhythmic outlets nationwide.

The video clip for "Dem Boyz" is the #2 Most Played video this week on BET. Boyz N Da Hood recently gave an exclusive performance on the BET Awards pre-show and have hosted the "Rap City Top 10 Countdown" and performed on "106 & Park."

At MTV, "Dem Boyz" is the week's #15 most-played video. Over at MTV2, "Dem Boyz" is featured on the "Hip Hop Show," and MTV Jams has the clip in Sizzlin' rotation.

Boyz N Da Hood are also featured on Grand Hustle/Atlantic's upcoming soundtrack to the film "Hustle & Flow" (due in stores on July 12th).

Comprised of Duke, Big Gee, Jeezy, and Jody Breeze, Boyz N Da Hood is a collaboration of four of the grimiest, truest rappers to ever come from the ATL. Inspired by the legendary gangsta supergroup NWA, their debut album displays the quartet's undeniable chemistry, with each member offering his own unique style and streetwise perspective. The 16-track set explicitly conveys the harsh realities of their Dirty South 'hood on such electrifying tracks as "Gangstas," featuring Eazy E, "Felonies," and "Don't Put Your Hands On Me."

Executive produced by Sean "P. Diddy" Combs and Russell "Block" Spencer, and featuring production by Jazze Pha (T.I., Nelly, Twista), Frank Nitti, DJ Toomp (Ludacris, T.I., Lil Jon & the East Side Boyz), and Erik Sermon, "BOYZ N DA HOOD" packs the summer's hardest-hitting hip-hop punch.

Also look out for the "Dem Boyz Got Rims" national promotion, where one lucky fan will win a set of Sean John rims. Go to for more details.

BE LITERATE 'Jackie Brown' Actor, 'Blade' Actress Among 'Rap Literacy' Supporters

July 3rd, 2005
Toronto -- Hollywood heavyweights Robert Forster,
N'Bushe Wright and Leon have collaborated with
Canadian music personality Raoul S. Juneja (a.k.a.
Deejay Ra) for the highly anticipated debut audio PSAs
of Lyrical Knockout Entertainment's 'Hip-Hop Literacy'
high school and college radio campaign.

Juneja, considered "One of the entertainment
industry's most vocal and effective campaigners"
(FilmInk), launched the 'Hip-Hop Literacy' campaign
February 2004 with support from "America's greatest
crime writer" Elmore Leonard (Newsweek), also teaming
up with Leonard's publisher HarperCollins for "Get
Shorty" and "Be Cool" book giveaways across Canada and
Southern California campuses.

Featuring their catch phrase "Put down the gangsta rap
CD and pick up the gangster fiction novel," Juneja
even encouraged music biographies along with Leonard's
movie adaptations through his 'Hip-Hop Literacy'
campaign to youth otherwise uninterested in reading,
soon receiving the support of MTV Books and Adidas
Canada to launch North America's largest giveaway
tribute to rap icon Jam Master Jay in September 2004.

An April 2005 'VerveGirl' Canadian youth magazine
profile of the 'Hip-Hop Literacy' campaign later took
Juneja's reading list and writing workshop elements
into classrooms for the first time, with VerveGirl's
180,000 bilingual student readers taking part in a
'Rap Literacy' themed poetry contest across 1,600
Canadian schools, sponsored by Canada's
Indigo-Chapters bookstores and Juneja's award-winning
Lyrical Knockout Entertainment label.

"Good move Deejay Ra, I'm pleased to join my pal
Elmore Leonard in supporting your campaign," wrote
actor Robert Forster in an initial 'Hip-Hop Literacy'
endorsement letter. Forster's former co-stars in over
100 productions since 1962 have included Marlon
Brando, Christopher Reeve, Vince Vaughn, Naomi Watts,
Bill Duke, and most memorably Pam Grier in Quentin
Tarantino's "Rum Punch/Jackie Brown," which gave
Forster his 1998 Oscar nomination.

"Reading is important and fun, whether it's 'Blade' or
any book from your favorite movie," explains actress
N'Bushe Wright in her PSA recording with Juneja. Ms.
Wright's former co-stars in over 25 productions since
1992 have included Michael Rapaport, Chris Tucker,
Wesley Snipes, Rosie Perez, Roger Guenveur Smith, and
most recently Lisa Raye in Neema Barnette's "Civil
Brand," which was featured in the 2003 Sundance Film

"Whether it's Tupac or any book of your favourite
musician," adds actor Leon in his 'Hip-Hop Literacy'
college radio PSA. In addition to his role opposite
Adewale Agbaje and Eamonn Walker in the first season
of HBO's "Oz," Leon also co-starred in "Above The Rim"
with rap icon Tupac Amaru Shakur, whose official
"Makaveli-Branded" education fundraising clothing line
recently featured Juneja in a Tupac Scholarship Fund
print PSA advertisement.

via and respectively.
