Music by Yellow Dog Records Artists Featured Throughout the Film "Hustle & Flow"

Music from several artists on the Yellow Dog Records label contributes to the distinctive musical atmosphere of the major motion picture Hustle & Flow, released today by Paramount/MTV.

(PRWEB) July 22, 2005 -- Music from several artists on the Yellow Dog Records label contributes to the distinctive musical atmosphere of the major motion picture Hustle & Flow, released today by Paramount/MTV.

Director Craig Brewer set the entire film in his native Memphis, and insisted on using authentic Memphis music throughout. Brewer had in mind sounds from classic soul and blaxploitation grooves and called on Memphis musician/producer Scott Bomar to compose the films score. Bomar recorded it with musicians from The Bo-Keys, including Skip Pitts and Willie Hall.

Pitts, longtime guitarist for Isaac Hayes, is known for his iconic wah-wah guitar in Shaft. Hall was the drummer for several of Hayes' albums including "Shaft" and "Hot Buttered Soul" and his signature tight hi-hat pattern weaves throughout the movie. In an interview with the Memphis Commercial Appeal, filmmaker John Singleton ("Boyz N the Hood"), the executive producer of Hustle & Flow, enthused, To have these classic musicians is the icing on the cake to shooting a little movie in Memphis.

The Bo-Keys debut album, The Royal Sessions, was nationally released by Yellow Dog Records in May 2004 to international acclaim from major media outlets including NPRs All Things Considered (which deemed the album a Memphis tour-de-force), NPRs Fresh Air, USA Today, The London Times, New Yorker, and House of Blues Radio Hour. The Bo-Keys, made up of a mix of veteran Stax session musicians and young Memphis up-and-comers, were also nominated for a W.C. Handy award for The Royal Sessions.

In addition to the Bo-Keys score, tracks by several other Yellow Dog artists with Memphis ties are included throughout the films background. Calvin Newborns After Hours Blues provides a sultry background to an early scene in Darnells bar, while Mark Lemhouses Edwins Lament plays during a pivotal episode in a pawnshop. Under the Mountain, a spirited bluegrass-style composition by Jason Freeman (Bluff City Backsliders) provides the intro as the films main character drives to a convenience store.

Crooked I's Long Awaited Album: 'Boss Music' Will be released Oct. 4th

West Coast rapper Crooked I is finally releasing his album 'Boss Music: The Beginning of Something Serious' on Oct. 4th. The album is a long awaited project due to prolonged legal issues with Suge Knight and Death Row Records.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) July 22, 2005 -- West Coast rapper Crooked I is finally releasing his album 'Boss Music: The Beginning of Something Serious' on Oct. 4th. The album is a long awaited project due to prolonged legal issues with Suge Knight and Death Row Records.

Hands down, as the most anticipated album from the most critically acclaimed west coast artist to have never released an album, Crooked I is free and clear to finally deliver what the streets have been craving.

Featured on the cover of the July/August issue of RIME Magazine, Crooked I chronicles the details of his tumultuous ride from Death Row Records (now Tha Row) to his present situation with Treacherous/Universal records. The long awaited album entitled B.O.S.S. Music (Beginning of Something Serious) will drop in October and promises to be worth the wait.

Previously stunted by legal issues sustained by Suge Knight and Death Row Records, after five-years and a recent court battle Crooked I is officially released from Death Row Records.

Crooked I has wasted no time getting back into the studio with hit producer Scott Storch (Beyonce, Fat Joe, Mario, 50 Cent). The first Storch produced track, Cali Boys adds fire to a topic Crooked I knows all to well as a Long Beach native, and pays homage to the coast that has held him down from day one.

B.O.S.S Music is a breakaway from your typical west coast gangstaisms and is more a social commentary on how the West puts it down from politics to street life with some hot club banger's thrown in just because he can. The second single 20inch Wires shows how sparks fly when Southern California connects with the Durty South as Bun B joins him on another scorching Scott Storch track.

In addition to his artistic abilities, Crooked I is his own boss with his own label, Dynasty Records, recently signed by Treacherous/Universal Records. (

In a recent appearance on BET's Rap City, Crooked I expressed his satisfaction at being made a priority at Treacherous. Receiving high praise from the likes of Scratch Magazine, XXL and the Source Magazine for having one of the hottest mix tapes on the streets, Young Boss Vol 1, he has gained the respect by many as being one of the best of all times.

Even Sway, MTV News Correspondent sounded off to give props to the west coast's best-kept secret. You got Biggie, Xzibit, Tupac, Eminem, and Jay- Z. Crooked I is in that top five! Having had the best of hip-hop legends on his renowned syndicated "Wake Up Show," Sway guarantees that Crooked I can hang with the greatest. The streets have waited a long time for this and they want to see him win. Once B.O.S.S Music hits the streets, the rest of the world will agree he is the best on the west.

A patient and level-headed genius who looks at his past years of misfortune as a learning experience, Crooked I wants to walk away from it all with respect and holds no hard feelings toward his prior label. Instead, Crooked I is using what he has gained in his ventures to re-establish himself and his own 'Dynasty.' His main goal is to revamp Westcoast classic [rap]. Crooked I hopes to bring the 'life experiences' back into Westcoast music through his albums and allow the 'little' guys, up and coming in the rap game, to take part in this evolution as well.

The princess of freestyles is back and better than ever.

New York, New York - July 13, 2005 After a two year hiatus, Lady Luck,
is reborn. Back with a new look, new sound and a new and improved outlook on life and this rap game she is ready to take over.
You may remember Lady Luck from her spontaneous freestyles on New
Yorks radio station Hot 97, or from her performances on Redmans 2001
Malpractice toureither way, you remember Luck.
You may have also heard rumors that Lady Luck was taken out of the game by Terror Squads, Remy Martin, during an underground fight club MC battle in New
York City. Well, thats what you heard! Lucks never been taken down and with that said, listen to the battle and you be the judge.

The rebirth of this lady is evident on her latest mix tape, appropriately entitled The Rebirth of a Lady. Her sound is improved; its crisper, sexy, and smooth and all on top of crazy beats. On the CD, Luck ushers in her rebirth with unforgettable, quick tongued, down and gritty rhymes, all apparent on tracks Luck is Home and Nothing. She further demonstrates her lyrical prowess as she cleverly expresses her dislike of none other than Remy Martin, on Fuck Remy. Yes, Fuck Remy. Then Luck switches gears by keeping it sexy on Nasty Girls, featuring G-Units Olivia, and Come Home with Me and she, of course, keeps the party jumping with the contagious, ass-shaking track Get Naked.

Luck is lyrically still on top of her game and with the female rap scene as it stands currently, she is a breath of fresh air and a definite force to be reckoned with.

Look out for rebirth of a Lady at a corner near you and catch her highly anticipated single when it drops later this summer.

World Famous DJ Vibe to Spin at P. Diddys White Party

DALLAS, TX JULY 21, 2005 World Famous DJ Vibe will spin at P. Diddys White Party on Labor Day Sunday at The Star Room in the Hamptons. Vibe who also DJed P.Diddys 4th of July Party earlier this month, has also spun for A List clients such as Sean Kinney, Jill Jacobson, Miramax Films, Phat Farm Clothing and the Island/Def Jam Music Group. Vibes upcoming events will include the Young Gunz II Movie Premiere Party and a Hustler Magazine Party along with a host other events in the works.

From interning in the promotions department at Island/Def Jam to releasing and selling his own mixtapes across the nation, DJ Vibe became a popular face in a world flooded with hideous tapes that duplicated their competitors. He began to release old school mix CDs to the various distributors from Canal Street and Fulton Street to Jamaica Avenue and Fordham Road. "No one had ever just made exclusively old school CDs and people kept buying mine. I carved out a niche for myself even though I knew I could never be a best seller, said Vibe. It was the only way I was able to stay competitive." Nevertheless, Vibe has continued launching his career from spinning at The Star Room in the Hamptons to DJing at upcoming Polo Match in Bridgehampton sponsored by Mercedes-Benz.

Northstarr makes Christian Hip Hop more popular than ever!

Los Angeles, CA -- July 20, 2005 -- Before you begin to formulate
Thoughts about NorthStarr (*aka* NS), a Christian Hip Hop music group,
NorthStarr's sound will definitely be the break through group that
popular radio stations will play in heavy rotation. The group is
composed of 5 members: DTM, T-Dogg, Sam-Bam, E-roc, AV, ranging from
16-18 years old, each providing a very unique sound, reflective of
different talents. It's Hard to imagine a Hip Hop song without
profanity, degrading women, violent and drug lyrics and still being the
hottest Hip Hop group ever. B2K's Raz-B, reveals, "NS is definitely a
Hip Hop group that will make waves in the industry. They don't have a
preachy sound, they just have an upbeat, fun, and fresh message that
are going to gravitate to."

No newcomer to the streets, they were raised in the troubled towns of
Compton and South Central in Los Angeles where fighting to live and be
on the right side of the track is a constant battle. T-Dogg shares, "It
was only our faith in God, that we've been able to avoid and escape the
daily drive-bys, deadly fights, shoot-outs, and the temptations of
down the wrong path." They believe that being "in" doesn't mean that
they have to compromise their beliefs. They are very popular in high
school, and are trendsetters. DTM states, "We were looking for someone
to follow, someone to lead us in the Hip Hop industry, but I believe if
it takes us to be the leaders, with the help of God, we will be the
leaders that we were looking for."

According to their Manager Linda Luna, "Everyone can expect hot music.
Some might be turned off because they may hear the word "God or Jesus"
in some of their songs, and automatically think that it is not hip, but
that couldn't be furthest from the truth. We have hot producers working
with us such as Keith McMasters who has made hits for Chingy, Ludacris,
and Boyz in Da Hood of Bad Boys South camp. Keith says "NorthStarr
provides a fresh new, clean, positive, and fun sound that can be heard
on the radio, in the clubs, and in the church". NS wants people to know
that their music will be just as trendy as 50 cent and Jay-Z, but the
lyrical content will just provide a powerful clean message.

NorthStarr is a contemporary, fresh and innovative Christian Hip Hop
group that will provide a refreshing alternative to those who love the
music and beats, but want more than that, want quality music all the
around. They are the alternative for teenagers and adults who want to
make a difference in their worlds.

New York
Sparks have been flying between Terry McMillan and her husband Jonathan Plummer, as McMillan hurls insults, and drops a juicy plot that rivals any lust laced fiction. A literary titan, penning novels such as Waiting To Exhale and How Stella Got Her Groove Back, McMillan filed for a divorce from her Jamaican born love amid accusations that he is gay. Reported too, is that McMillan prefers an annulment. I dont want to negate the torment that Terry McMillan has to endure during this time in her life, but she does sound like a tempestuous homophobe, says Mental Health Therapist and Personal Advisor to the stars, Terence McPhaul. Ending a relationship is a difficult process, however, it concerns me when I hear Terry [McMillan] make inflammatory statements about gay men as if they alone are the cause of the entire AIDS pandemic. McPhaul adds, Her misguided statements can be dangerous. The fact of the matter is, that no one should venture outside of a committed relationship, McPhaul opines.

To clarify further McPhaul, who is author of The Psychology of Hip Hop and The Celebrity Psyche says, there are individuals who have contracted HIV/AIDS through sharing needles and other means, so the necessity of a person to know the sexual history of a partner is not negated because a person is heterosexual. It is true that men on the down-low do exist, but this is not a new occurrence, however, only recently has it been sensationalized; mostly by individuals who would rather not have to take responsibility for their own behavior, said McPhaul.

Of course, there are men and women out there who act irresponsibly, knowing of their HIV/AIDS status and failing to disclose this to a sexual partner. And while this act may be unconscionable, gay men alone are not to blame. To date, there is no reported evidence that her husband has exposed her to HIV/AIDS, yet the melodrama continues. Obviously, the divorce proceedings and public discussions have created a difficult climate for Plummer who is McMillans junior by 23 years. Terry is obviously angry, and her ego suffered a significant blow. Given her personality, I am not surprised at the measures she has taken to exact revenge on her estranged husband, McPhaul said.

McPhaul is regularly sought by program directors of TV talk shows and national media as an expert in the field of Mental Health, to deliver perspective or respond to programming regarding social and behavioral issues. McPhaul has appeared as a Mental Health expert for Court TV, and Bill OReillys The OReilly Factor for FOX News.

Indie Label Scores Podcasting Hit on iTunes

Alpha Pup Records, a small independent label based in Los Angeles, enjoys massive success with its DJ-mixed podcast on iTunes. The "Alternative Hip-Hop Lounge" has attracted over 40,000 subscribers since its launch on July 1st, and shows no signs of slowing down.

(PRWEB) July 21, 2005 -- Alpha Pup Records, a Los Angeles-based independent record label, has become one of the first true underdog success stories in the podcasting phenomenon. Since the launch of iTunes 4.9 on June 28, podcasting has caught on like wildfire, with iTunes users racking up over a million subscriptions within the first two days.

Alpha Pup Records was one of the first independent labels to deliver a music podcast. Blending avant-garde rap with experimental electronic beats, Alpha Pup's "Alternative Hip-Hop Lounge" podcast debuted on July 1, and was added to the iTunes Podcast Directory on July 3. Since then, it's been nothing but a skyrocket up the iTunes Top 100 Podcast Chart.

Initially entering the Top 100 Podcast Chart on July 9 at #96, the "Alternative Hip-Hop Lounge" reached #77 within 24 hours, and then cracked the Top 50 on July 11. Alpha Pup's podcast has maintained that position ever since. Without feature positioning or banner placement, the label's podcast has been charting higher than offerings from ESPN, CNN, ABC, BBC, and even podcast pioneer KCRW.

"We're simply astonished," said Daddy Kev, co-owner of the underground hip-hop label. "To think that a label of our size can compete with multi-billion dollar media conglomerates on a broken shoe-string budget... it's an impossible dream come true."

Co-owned by business partner/fiancee Danyell Jariel, Alpha Pup is a small independent record label, operating out of Kev and Danyell's two-bedroom home near Downtown Los Angeles. "The recording studio and label office -- I mean, our two desks -- are in one bedroom, and we sleep in the other," Kev explained. "The garage is the stockroom, and we do most of our mailings on the kitchen table or on the couch."

Despite their modest surroundings, the success of Alpha Pup's podcast has been worldwide. On the iTunes Podcast Charts in Europe, the "Alternative Hip-Hop Lounge" is on fire, charting #7 in France, #12 in Italy, and Top 30 in the United Kingdom and Germany. In less than a month, the "Alternative Hip-Hop Lounge" podcast has gained an astronomical number of subscribers, over 40,000 worldwide.

"I give most of the credit to the artists who are featured on the podcast because it shows that quality independent music can prevail in an industry dominated by big business," said Danyell. "Our artist roster is a very close knit family, and we couldn't be happier for the awareness this is generating for them."

Established in 2004, Alpha Pup Records is an artist-owned and operated indie label, specializing in underground hip-hop and experimental electronic music. Signed artists include AWOL One, Daddy Kev, Busdriver, The Grouch, Existereo, Ricci Rucker and Paris Zax. "Alternative Hip-Hop Lounge: Episode 2" mixed by Los Angeles producer Omid was released July 15. Alpha Pup has plans to release two podcasts a month, featuring music from it's catalog, and creatively mixed by Alpha Pup artists and affiliates.

The Wait is Over as Crooked I Drops the Beginning of Something Serious

The hip-hop world has been anxiously awaiting the release of Suge Knights secret weapon on Death Row. Now that he has left "Tha Row" Crooked I is calling the shots and releasing his debut album on his own imprint through Treacherous /Universal Records.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) July 21, 2005 -- Hands down, as the most anticipated album from the most critically acclaimed west coast artist to have never released and album; former Death Row records artist, Crooked I, is free and clear to finally deliver what the streets have been craving.

The first Storch produced track, "Cali Boys" adds fire to a topic Crooked I knows all to well as a Long Beach native, and pays homage to the coast that has held him down from day one. B.O.S.S Music is a breakaway from your typical west coast gangstaisms and is more a social commentary on how the West puts it down from politics to street life with some hot club bangers thrown in just because he can. The second single "20inch Wires" shows how sparks fly when Southern California connects with the Durty South as Bun B joins him on another scorching Scott Storch track.

In addition to his artistic abilities, Crooked I is his own boss with his own label, Dynasty Records, recently signed by Treacherous/Universal Records. ( In a recent appearance on BETs Rap City, Crooked I expressed his satisfaction at being made a priority at Treacherous. Receiving high praise from the likes of Scratch Magazine, XXL and the Source Magazine for having one of the hottest mixtapes on the streets, Young Boss Vol 1., He has gained the respect by many as being one of the best of all times. Even Sway, MTV News Correspondent sounded off to give props to the west coast's best-kept secret. "You got Biggie, Xzibit, Tupac, Eminem, and Jay- Z. CROOKED I is in that TOP five!" Having had the best of hip-hop legends on his renowned syndicated "Wake Up Show," Sway guarantees that Crooked I can hang with the greatest.

Instead Crooked I is using all that he has gained in his ventures to re-establish himself and his own 'Dynasty.' His main goal: to revamp Westcoast classic (rap). Crooked I hopes to bring the 'life experiences' back into Westcoast music through his albums and allow the 'little' guys, up and coming in the rap game, to take part in this evolution as well.

Recording Artist K-CINO Searching For A Cure With 'A Better Way Foundation'

Aims To Aid Hodgskin's Disease Patients, Among Others

Manhattan, NY (PRWEB) June 21, 2005 -- K-CINO, the headlining artist on "Tha Awakening Tour", the largest hip hop tour to hit the nation this Fall, has formed a non-profit organization called 'A Better Way Foundation' to aid and support cancer patients. K-CINO, along with other memebers of the Board of Directors of SSC Records, established this foundation not only to further develop scientific methods of cancer research, but also to help individual patients cope with the harsh realities of terminal diseases.

"Seeing the day to day struggles of a cancer patient first hand, with my cousin and co-CEO of SSC Records battling Hodgskin's Disease, I learned how difficult it is not only physically, but mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Most of the cancer support organizations are aimed to aid the patient in the physical, but not in the mental or emotional sense. I also wanted to make sure that we included a program for friends and families, because cancer is almost as hard on them as it is on the patient."

K-CINO continued by saying, " know, people say there isn't anything you can do for terminally-ill patients; I say that's bullsh*t. They gave my cousin a month to live on his deathbed, and look at him now. Even if we can't cure cancer, we can at least make it as comfortable as possible for the patients, so they want to live, and they want to continue fighting."

K-CINOs second full-length album entitled, The Bottom Line, Executive Produced by D/R Period (, featuring many celebrity collaborations, due in stores this Fall.

About Inventos
Eli Jacobs-Fantauzzi is a graduate of Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. Eli's first full-length film documentary,Inventos: Hip Hop Cubano, premiered in Havana, Cuba and has toured successfully across the U.S. Cuban Hip Hop provides a unique insight into the realities and politics of contemporary Cuba. Experience this as Inventos follows some of the pioneers of this musical movement to their homes, the stage and as they travel abroad for the first time. Inventos embodies the true spirit of Hip Hop, which is to build something that is powerful and useful out of what is seemingly impossible. Just as Hip Hop in the U.S. began as a form of creative self _expression bringing awareness to oppressive social conditions, Cuban Hip Hop demonstrates the innovative and indestructible spirit born from a people suppressed by the U.S. embargo on Cuba. Inventos, serves as a reminder of the political consciousness through which this music was created. Thirty years after its conception, and in spite of commercialization, Hip Hop culture continues to give voice to people who refuse to be silenced, ignored and cut off from the larger society. The film shows how both cultures reflect similar social struggles and if brought together, could transcend cultural barriers and build a collective community dedicated to spreading messages of truth and empowerment globally. Jacobs-Fantauzzi's film rekindles an essence of the old school, which will inspire and reawaken the eyes of our present generations.

Vince "Da Produca" Carter Official Member of LiL Fella Productions LLC

Philadelphia, PA - July 17, 2005
LiL Fella Productions LLC has signed Vince "Da Produca" Carter to fill the position as Staff Producer. He comes to us from Philadelphia, PA, where he was an unsigned producer. Vince "Da Produca" Carter role will vary as a Staff Producer, producing music for signed and unsigned recording artist and other entertainment projects.

He was discovered a year ago and within that year producing many tracks for LiL Fella Productions. During that time we have discovered his unique style and signature sound at the same time developing a relationship.

As a youth, music has been in his blood from the early years, playing various instruments such as the piano, viola, violin, cello, trumpet, cornet, recorder, guitar, bass, and little drums. He took up the piano at the age of seven at Settlement Music School in West Philadelphia. His classical talents got him into one of the top magnet schools in the city: The Girard Academic Music Program, better known as G.A.M.P. While attending G.A.M.P. from middle school to high school graduation, he was involved in several activities: orchestra, string ensemble, concert choir, television, and basketball. Besides the activities, Vince has sung for and with Bill Clinton, Governor Ed Rendall, Peter Nero and the Philly Pops and has performed at the Academy of Music with the Philadelphia orchestra.

His songwriting began at the age of six, writing about what he saw in his dreams and his producing career began at the age of 16, working with only a cheap Yamaha keyboard. It started off as a joke until people started to like it, so he saved his money to come up with a mini-studio. Producing slowly helped him climbed the ladder, sending him to do work in the states of Philadelphia, Maryland, Washington D.C., and New Jersey.

While trying to get material on the radio as well as a deal, he was turned down several times because he wasn't taken seriously. With all hope gone, he saved money to acquire his partner in crime, a Phantom keyboard. Vince came roaring back getting a buzz all around the city of Philadelphia and was the hot producer to work with. Since then, he has been offered gigs with Hollewood, Philly's Most Wanted, and several other rappers and singers. His personality is the key to his success and his song ideas are out of this world.

Branching Out in the Business: A Guide to Mixing Music with Fashion

Kerry Gordy joins top music industry executives and artists who are launching profitable apparel lines. Gordys music business experiences lead him to lucrative ventures within the fashion industry.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) July 20, 2005--Russell Simmons began Phat Farm. Sean P. Diddy Combs created Sean John. Jennifer Lopez launched J. Lo. Britney Spears got Curious. Do we see a pattern here? And, is there a lucrative link between music industry executives and artists with the fashion, cosmetics, and fragrance industries? Apparently so. According to, in 2004, the P. Diddy related Sean John made $2.8 million for example.

Celebrities understand the money that can be made by putting their names on multiple products, says one industry insider, Weve all seen this done before, but today we see those who are able to pull it off really well, bringing even more millions of dollars a year.

With his own record and marketing company, Gordy Enterprises, Kerry Gordy, formally of Motown, Warner Brothers, and Paisley Park Studios, intends to accomplish the same type of branding expeditions as other music industry entrepreneurs. Gordy will tap into the merging consumer market where music meets the fashion and beauty industries. Yet, he intends to do it with a different twist. Rather than becoming the front of an apparel line, Gordy has begun to manage fitness guru Debbie Siebers of Slim in 6 fame. Through his connections, Gordy has been able to set Siebers with her own apparel collection through the privately owned and operated Romar Studios, Inc. Siebers collections will touch wide consumer markets and will branch from online to retail stores.

Springing from industry royalty and experience, Kerry Gordy can bring deeply-rooted industry knowledge and a formidable connection force, continues the aforementioned source, the key is that when those who have made it in the industry understand the amazing opportunities that it offers. There was a time when artists, producers, and the like were owned by the giants of record companies and given crumbs of profit from their own work. Now, more industry people have knowledge of the finicky money tree behind and the branch out capabilities of the business.

Being involved with artist management can open multiple pathways for a business savvy individual due to its correlations with the deal structured nature of brand management. Managing a brand is much like managing an artist in that it is based on making a product into a recognizable name. As a brand manager and partner, Kerry Gordy holds a uniquely objective position. He has fiduciary, image, product and branding responsibilities. He is likely to be more accurate and honest about quality, direction and in promoting the line than others who are concerned solely about themselves and their own image.

Kerry Gordy has a natural, God-given feel for why and how to manage personalities. Its in his blood, continues the source, He is persistent, and he gets what he is after. When he believes in something or someone, he follows it through to success.

Atari and Marc Ecko Announce 'Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure' For Xbox(R) and Windows

NEW YORK, July 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Atari, Inc. (NASDAQ:ATAR) today announced that its highly anticipated video game, Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure, will be a worldwide multi-platform Fall release. Already announced for the PlayStation(R)2 computer entertainment system and mobile platform by Glu Mobile, this unique action-adventure game will also be available for the Xbox(R) video game system from Microsoft and Windows.

Developed by The Collective, Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure is a broad-based action-adventure inspired by graffiti's historically rich and diverse culture and is the culmination of seven years of story and character development by Marc Ecko, the visionary behind several of today's most respected youth lifestyle brands.

Set in the city of New Radius, the game features a world where freedom of expression is suppressed and graffiti has been outlawed by a tyrannical government. In the game, players assume the role of Trane -- voiced by hip-hop artist Talib Kweli -- as they learn and master various graf skills in a journey from toy to legend. During their quest, players find themselves with an even greater burden -- to use their high-wire graffiti talents to expose an oppressive mayor and rid the city of his stranglehold on New Radius.

"Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure brings an original vision and point of view to gaming," said Marc Metis, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Atari. "With the Xbox and Windows versions now joining its PlayStation 2 and mobile counterparts, we look forward to bringing this experience to an even broader audience with the product's simultaneous worldwide launch."

Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure promises a new genre of gameplay by combining urban navigation and vertical gameplay with graffiti, street combat and sneak. The game uses a thrilling graffiti-driven framework to tell its story of self-expression and the fight for creative freedom. A thug, an outcast, and a rebel, the game's protagonist, Trane, initially sets out to earn his street cred by getting his graffiti tag up throughout the politically oppressive city of New Radius only to find himself the unlikely leader of an urban revolution.

Cutting Edge 24/7 Hip Hop Internet Radio Station Begins Broadcasting (iHHF), a cutting-edge Internet radio station, has begun broadcasting worldwide. iHHF features an all-star lineup of disc jockeys from across the globe.

Farmingdale, New York (PRWEB) July 19, 2005 -- (iHHF), a cutting-edge Internet radio station, has begun broadcasting worldwide. iHHF features an all-star lineup of disc jockeys from across the globe.

iHHF is unique for many reasons. Most Internet radio "stations" are merely one radio show with songs randomly playing while the show is not airing. This is where iHHF differs. iHHF has a lineup of over 25 uncensored mixshows from DJs and personalities from all over the world. Some of these shows resemble formats commonly used on terrestrial radio. "There is so much raw potential pertaining to music on the Internet. This station will tap into that," says Jason "PrizMatiK" Zaffron, iHHF's station manager.

In between shows, the station has an extensive database of tracks from every aspect of the Hip Hop spectrum. These songs are coded with specific rotation rules that enable those in demand to air more frequently than others.

iHHF combines talent from the newest independent artist to the most established of acts. The website also offers a place for people to communicate with one another and get in touch with those of a similar mindset. "This station combines an ideology that will not only take the Hip Hop community to the next level, but showcase an element that many seek and is not easily accessible," says Jason Zaffron.

With many major sponsorships and partnerships in the works, iHHF is already gaining recognition from both the music industry and fans alike. The combination of Hip Hop and its culture displayed on iHHF is bound to create a new phenomenon for the way the music industry connects with one another.

6 Months Into Touring, One.Be.Lo Kicks It In The Sun On The Vans Warped Tour and Other Summer Dates

(Brooklyn, NY July 13, 2005) One.Be.Lo, one of 2005's most critically lauded indie hip-hop MC's, has just added over 60 Summer 05' tour dates including a feature spot on the Van's Warped Tour. One.Be.Lo has been touring in support of his debut album, S.O.N.O.G.R.A.M., non-stop since January, and will now finish out the summer with appearances at smaller local venues while traveling throughout the country as part of the Warped Tour.

Hard work and incessant touring is not a new phenomenon for the Pontiac, Michigan native. One.Be.Lo (also known as One Many Army) has been writing rhymes since 1988 and rockin' mics since 1992. One.Be.Lo first started turning heads in 2000 when he and his partner Senim Silla's group Binary Star released the now classic indie hip-hop album, Master of the Universe.

Since going solo, One.Be.Lo has been busy establishing his own record label, Subterraneous Records, recording music, and performing throughout the Midwest and West Coast. After a bidding war amongst several independent record labels, One.Be.Lo became the first officially-signed artist of powerhouse indie hip-hop label Fat Beats Records and has been on the road promoting his album S.O.N.O.G.R.A.M ever since.

Despite only having 2 weeks off in the previous 6 months, Lo finds life on the road an integral part of his being. "I view touring as a way of life, not a job. Like Guru said, I'm 'feeling satisfaction from the street crowd reaction.' The best way to promote myself is to stand in front of an audience and give them the whole package; audio, visual, my personality, etc. You can't get all that just from listening to my records. Touring is what I gotta do right now." In between the 40 dates with the Warped Tour, One.Be.Lo will perform an additional 24 dates at local venues supported by local artists.

You can come see One.Be.Lo in up close and personal at one of the following dates:

La Invasin del Reggaeton Part II Concert at
Gibson Amphitheatre August 19, 2005

Los Angeles July 14, 2005 Once again, Orjuela Entertainment and Machete Music bring Los Angeles the hottest artists in reggaeton. La Invasin del Reggaeton Part II is guaranteed to be a show to remember, as its predecessor Part I in May was, selling out two full houses in a matter of hours. The concert will take place on August 19 at Los Angeles Gibson Amphitheatre, formerly Universal Amphitheater, and will feature artists Ivy Queen, Wisin & Yandel, Zion & Lennox, Luny Tunes, Angel & Khris, Alexis & Fido and Master Joe & OG Black.

Reggaeton is the newest music movement to impact the United States by way of its Latin American roots. As a cross-cultural genre, reggaeton is influenced by Jamaican music (reggae), Latin tropical music (salsa/merengue/bachata, etc.) and urban hip-hop music. Starting in the 80s in Panama and making its way through the underground movement of urban youth in the Caribbean and neighboring nations, including Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Peru, Venezuela, Colombia, and Nicaragua, etc., reggaeton reinvented itself in Puerto Rico where it took new roots so that it could surface in the United States, particularly in urban centers with a high concentration of Latinos. As an urban genre of music, reggaeton owes much to hip-hop, both in terms of production and marketing. Recently, urban artists have begun to see their influence on reggaeton and have responded by welcoming reggaeton into the genre of urban music. This is evidenced by the fact that many multi-platinum hip-hop artists are collaborating with reggaeton artists and doing reggaeton remixes of their own songs.

On the West Coast, reggaeton has taken off in the last two years. In Los Angeles, radio has begun to support the genre and leading the reggaeton radio movement have been radio stations Power 106 (KWPR-FM) urban format and #1 radio station in the Los Angeles DMA and Super Estrella (KSSE-FM) Latin pop station. Spanish Broadcasting Systems kicked Los Angeles radio support of reggaeton up a notch in June by changing the format of one of their stations over entirely to a reggaeton and hip-hop format. The new station, called Latino 96.3 (KXOL-FM) gives urban Latinos in Los Angeles what they have been wanting for a very long time an urban format station that supports their bi-lingual lifestyle.

La Invasin del Reggaeton Part II is another example of Orjuela Entertainment, Total Entertainment and Machete Music delivering the live reggaeton acts that Los Angeles wants to see. Headlining acts Ivy Queen and Luny Tunes were nominated for the newly created category of Reggaeton Album Of The Year by Billboard Music Awards 2005. Headlining group and Machete Music artists Wisin & Yandel are putting out one of the most highly anticipated albums of the year and La Invasin del Reggaeton Part II will be the first concert to bring them to Los Angeles. Zion & Lennox, Angel & Khris, Alexis & Fido and Master Joe & OG Black have all enjoyed the success of hit songs, but this will be their first time sharing a stage in Los Angeles.

Universal Music Group launched Machete Music and appointed Gustavo Lopez as its President in a move to underscore its commitment to expanding new genres of music. Mr. Lopez is a key player in bringing together the talent for La Invasin del Reggaeton in association with producers Orjuela Entertainment, Inc. and Total Entertainment Group.

Student Advocacy Finds a New Voice in School for Democracy and Leadership

First School Year Ends with Advances in Scholastic Performance and Social Activism

NEW YORK, July 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The School for Democracy and Leadership in Brooklyn today celebrates the close of its first year in helping students participate and achieve in a new learning environment. Exams are done. Lockers are emptied. Textbooks have been returned and final grades have been sent home. And 150 sixth and ninth graders, who just nine months ago chose a unique approach to learning, can now reflect on how the 2004-2005 school year progressed and what they look forward to in the coming year.

"The smaller, more focused setting at the School for Democracy and Leadership has opened up opportunities for me to learn and succeed," said one ninth grade student. "Before coming to SDL, I attended a larger, overcrowded high school where less attention was paid to students' individual interests. At SDL, the teachers listen to our opinions and help us to accomplish personal goals. I'm glad I decided to come here; it has been a great experience this past year being able to participate in more hands-on activities and affecting the shape of the school and community through change projects."

Formed in association with the New York Urban League, New School University's Center for Urban Education and Sadie Nash Leadership Project, the School for Democracy and Leadership is rooted in the belief that democracy and education are inextricably linked. The school was launched to foster a learning environment that uniquely ties student choice, community involvement and the realization of personal potential. Providing a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, SDL aims to cultivate confident leaders and critical thinkers whose academic accomplishments and sense of connection with the larger community empower them to become meaningful participants in the world around them.

SDL joined more than 50 small, theme-based secondary schools that opened their doors in 2004 as part of Mayor Bloomberg's initiative to transform education and reverse alarmingly low graduation rates in New York City.

"The School for Democracy and Leadership represents an opportunity for students to take a more active role in shaping their own education and their communities. After only one school year, it's clear that the educational principles underlying this approach are taking root," said Nancy Gannon, co-founder and principal. "Students are both meeting and exceeding expectations. For example, eight students passed the Math Regents this year, despite the fact that we were hoping to prepare them over two years. Four students are preparing for the Physics Regents, a course that a very small fraction of pupils -- mostly as seniors -- take in New York City. And reading scores for the ninth grade are up 30%. And while test scores are important, just as important is the high level of student engagement we see daily, in contributing to their own educational progress under the leadership of an equally motivated SDL faculty."

SDL provides students with a range of opportunities to transform themselves and their environment through participation. For example, one student had the rare opportunity to observe youth cases at the Red Hook Youth Court that inspired new insights into and how the community deals with problem youth. Other students proudly led 2004 voter registration drives. Further, others led a lobby in Albany against the inequitable way in which the city is funded for education versus other communities in NY State. One 14-year old student even undertook the task of helping create a library for SDL.

Apart from individual and small group projects, several notable special events were held during the school year, including:

Hip-Hop Reader Summit

SDL hosted the kick-off of the Hip-Hop Reader Program in New York City with Russell Simmons of the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network, Marc H. Morial of the National Urban League, and Patrick Gaston of the Verizon Foundation. Hip-Hop Reader is a youth-based literacy and leadership initiative designed to engage public high school students in reading and discussing books, poetry, lyrics and issues important to their lives. The summit featured three key reading ciphers which integrated multi-sensory activities for students -- sight, sound and touch, music and art -- to demonstrate the power of literature.

Thirteen's Human Rights 101 Project

SDL was one of a few schools around the Tri-State Area to be awarded a grant to work on a human rights issue of importance. Students spent the year studying and preparing a teach-in about the importance of immigrant students' right to education, and the importance of the Federal D.R.E.A.M. Act. Among other things, this act provides the opportunity for undocumented students to get financial aid for college and be granted documentation.

Science Fair with Columbia University and Polytechnic University

The school's first annual science exhibition showcased innovative projects focusing on model rocket design, competitive robot construction, water erosion analysis, the study of sea-side crab morphology, and more. One student, for instance, who was interested in developing robots for combat built a simple robot for the KISS Robotics Competition. Another student interested in reducing energy use explored how to power motors using solar panels.

Distinguished scientists from Columbia University and Polytechnic University, who work in the fields of computer science, nanotechnology, astrophysics and chemistry, participated in judging the exhibits and provided winners an opportunity to tour their labs.

MIT and McGill University Research

SDL sixth-graders traveled to Rockaway Beach along the Atlantic Ocean to participate in invasive crab research. The students are part of a joint program between MIT, McGill University, and citizens to set-up a monitoring program along the Northeast coastline. The goal is to determine the prevalence of crabs that have arrived here from across the Atlantic Ocean, and which have started to take over the food and habitat of the plants and animals that are native to this area.

"A key event for all students at the end of the school year is the creation and presentation of a portfolio," said Jhumki Basu, SDL science teacher and New York City Teaching Fellow. "In their portfolios, students demonstrate the work they have pursued, the essential skills demanded, and reflect on areas where they are strong as well as areas that need improvement. Almost every child, despite moments of self-doubt, has risen to the challenge of completing a portfolio. For the teachers at SDL, this is especially a time of pride and reflection. It is amazing to see how much students have matured over the course of the year."

"As we move into the 2005-2006 school term, our second year of operation, the staff plans to extend our focus on career-oriented student opportunities to help those who may wish to pursue special interests in fields such as law, media, engineering, and medicine," Gannon continued. "It's not enough to create a new small school and expect that everything will be right from the start. Student participation requires a flexible, responsive approach that enables individuals to achieve their personal goals. With a strong foundation in place, I look forward to SDL's second year with even more excitement than our first!"

Giving the People What They Want

The latest in celebrity news straight with no chaser -- absolutely free

Indianapolis, IN - With so much negativity emanating from the urban entertainment community, its not often that we take the opportunity to praises our successes. The phenomenal growth of Word On The Street (WOTS), an independent grassroots entertainment e-zine is one of those succeses.

Averaging 550 hits a day, WOTS has evolved from a simple message board into a multifaceted e-zine and newsletter that combines celebrity interviews, movie and music reviews and factual entertainment news with the witty, on-point and irreverent comments of board members. And who hits WOTS? Just about everyone - from individuals who want to keep abreast of the latest entertainment buzz to on-air radio/television personalities looking for a hot scoop to celebrities themselves - WOTS is fast becoming the source for celebrity news.

Founder Shelia Chadwick knows what keeps people coming to WOTS. She says, "Word on the Street is different because it's not fake or watered down. It's about having factual content based upon what the people want." Since its inception, the ezine has evolved to include music, movie and book reviews as well as a section devoted to sports. "There is so much that we as African Americans contribute," Shelia says. "And we don't often get the support that we need without there being some type of string attached. WOTS has no strings attached and functions pretty much like a non-profit agency. My goal is to give."

For Shelia WOTS really is a labor of love. She maintains WOTS with her own money and has vowed that the ezine will always remain free to readers.

While Word on the Street is about black entertainment, Shelia's true passion is music and she recently introduced a New Artists Spotlight where up-and-coming acts R&B, Neo-Soul, Hip-Hop and Rap artists can pitch their latest CD's and projects free of charge. "I love music and keeping music alive is important to me. I consider WOTS as a means of bridging the gap between the mature artists (old school) and the present day (new school) artists. My primary focus is to keep the memory of those that have paved the way alive but the truth of the matter is that we can't ignore the new artists that are creating trends and paving a new way. Each needs to appreciate the contributions of the other and I hope to use my ezine to celebrate both."

After The Game, Who Will Carry The West Coast?

After Hip Hop artist The Game brought the West Back, Sky Balla is slated to keep the West alive.

San Francisco (PRWEB) July 18, 2005 -- As people scramble to see who will ensure that the West Coast remains a contender for Hip Hop mainstream, it is no secret that Sky Balla is groomed to be the next major Western presence since The Game. Like The Game, Sky Balla, 25, has caused a mixed tape frenzy, and has managed to capture the attention of major DJs: Whoo Kid, Big Mike, DJ Strong and DJ Wats, are among a few in that league. As a result, Sky Balla has sparked interest in virtually every major label, including the infamous GUNIT.

His music is the theme music for every hustler, and his lyrics ring of such truthful clarity that E-40 has decided to take Sky Balla in, to guide him and coach him, and ensure ,as The Game didnt forget Compton, that Sky Balla doesnt forget The Bay. Yet the hip hop audience wont need a Bay dictionary to decipher Sky Ballas universal sound because his lyrical hustle and flow can be felt no matter what hood you are in.

Shanda Sealy, radio specialist explains, "The Game has passed his baton to Sky Balla. This is another artist with a sound that can be heard in every city. E-40 never received the credit he deserved for putting the Bay on the map, but no matter where you go, everyone is saying that Sky Balla is going to be the rapper who puts the Bay on the map and keeps the West Coast going."

There is an extreme amount of pressure on Sky Balla to not only brand The Bay, but also to ensure that the West Coast has more than one artist who can represent the tremendous talent pool.

Javin Foreman, radio promoter analyst reveals, "Because the West was buried under so much radio politics, everyone was trying to figure out who would have broad enough shoulders to support the Snoops and the Games of the Western World, and in various radio meetings, Sky Ballas name continues to come up. He just has to have tough skin to fight not the radio world, but his own peers on the West Coast, that are just as hungry to be next."

When asked does he feel any pressure following The Game, Sky Balla calmly states, "Game is gangster, I am a hustler. And Pac was both. We got real synergy. They thought they killed Pacs movement when they killed him, but Pac is still here in me and Game. And we will combine this movement and make a million more Pacs."

If controversy is the formula to success for every high profile artist, Sky Balla will definitely be successful on that aspect of his life alone. Sky Balla, the self made millionaire, has had an affair with a NFL Dolfins wife, was in the midst of a bloody war in October 1998, a shoot out in the middle of the streets in San Francisco, in one of the biggest drug raids in Northern California -US Marshalls, FBI, DEA and SFPD all raided his house and seized $23,000 dollars in cash and also seized a quarter ounce of crack, and had a very powerful and high profile escort service.

Tomas Leely reveals, "Sky Ballas team and clique is as feared as Suge Knights clique is feared, but I am glad that he is now into the rap music, because he can help others get out of that risky hustle, and go into the legal hustle the rap game." At 18 he was a self made millionaire, Sky Balla explains, "In high school I had a better car than the principal, something is wrong with the American way of life who doesnt reward teachers for teaching, that is why there are so many children in the streets, look at how they reward entertainers more than they award guides to the future. Thats ridiculous man. I am going to take my money and change some sh*#! around."

Sky Ballas first debut album entitled "Im Rich Bitch", has already been prepared and ready to go independently for the right offer. His album is controversial and has the biggest names and producers on the album. The main producers are Scott Storch and Tone Capone. The artists Game, Juel Santana, Lil Flip, E-40, Unheard of tracks from Notorious B.I.G. and long time close friend Mac Dre. Sky Balla plans to release this controversial CD January, 2006. "Im Rich Bitch" is a slogan used throughout the world. Sky Balla wants to keep up the Bays legacy and keep his records independent.

Sky Balla explains, "Man the Bay taught me independence. That is the only difference between me and Game, he wanted a deal, I want to go in a different league. But we are still close, we are still going to ensure the West is back. Hell, I was on 5 tours with Game, I talk to Game every other day, so we are definitely going to vibe and support each other moves. But if I can help it, I want the independence. I dont want anyone trying to silence me." Sky Ball continues, If I want to say F!@# the Police over and over again, especially now since they killed the 2 year old baby and father, I can say F!@# the Police ! Thats another reason why they dont want California back, we are talking about politics, reality and etc. Paris from The Bay is still the Bush Killa, and still talking about who the real terrorist is, they cant handle our truth."

Sky Balla will carry on the Wests legacy with his controversial lyrics, his truth telling hustle, and his undeniably chart topping music. From L.A. to The Bay, Sky Balla brings back not only the Bay but keeps the West Coast very visible with his talent. After The Game, Sky Balla continues putting the West Coast on the map.

New Lifestyle Magazine in UK Comes to USA

Fall Launch of NOIR Magazine

NOIR is bi-monthly publication is lead by a talented team of international journalists and creatives which is aimed at the growing upwardly-mobile black communities and will also be distributed internationally in the UK, US and Canada, Europe and Africa.

Atlanta, GA PRWEB) July 17, 2005 -- Defined as the definitive black lifestyle magazine, NOIR is set to hit the stands in the USA this fall. "For many black people, trying to find a magazine that is unique to their interests can be difficult," states Victoria Thomas, editorial director of Noir. "Much of the ethnic media is un-original and stereotypes readers as only having "black" interests. The mainstream media rarely reflects issues that are specific to their ethnic origins - or worse, sees no further than the "bling" culture."

NOIR sets to change that with the launch in February in the UK, they have seen tremendous success. This bi-monthly publication is lead by a talented team of international journalists and creatives which is aimed at the growing upwardly-mobile black communities and will also be distributed internationally in the UK, US and Canada, Europe and Africa.

Winifred Greywoode, Operations Director, sees NOIR as a trailblazing publication. "We aim to move away from the traditional and limited coverage of magazines designed for people of color, and will be setting our agenda through covering social issues in a fresh, lively and groundbreaking way."

Published by Brownstone Media a trading division of Brownstone International Limited, NOIR aims to be an all-encompassing lifestyle magazine and will report widely on news related to entertainment, fashion and beauty, finance and careers, health, travel and social issues. The publishers feel NOIR will reflect the ever-increasing importance of black people in society as leading trendsetters, role models, decision makers and leaders.

(PRWEB) July 17, 2005 -- Armed with the audacity of a gangster, the flow of a veteran, and the style to make even the most skeptical take a second look, she is definitely turning heads for all the right reasons. Raised in the streets of Coatesville, PA, a city of the greater Philadelphia area, she was of course no stranger to the crime wave. At age 10, she witnessed a cocaine addict nearly murder her father in their home; merely for a jewelery box. As an early teen she refused to run the scene with the local kids, and looked to music as an outlet in her troubling life.

Mystik discovered hip hop for the first time at the age 16 then, she couldnt comprehend the power it had over her. Armed with a tape deck and a small microphone, she started perfecting her craft over the radio and tapes her friends would bring over.

Four years later, Mystik is now a respected member of the female mc community and the rap game in general. Blazing mix tapes, rocking shows, and representing for all females, large and small. Demanding respect with her raw, gritty style, she shows that its time to let a WHITE female really show the industry what time it is.

They say its a mans world, but its DEFINETLY under Mystik's supervision.
