Hip Hop Press is Moving, Plus Other News

First off, this is not an April Fools' joke, so don't get it twisted! Normally I don't post on Saturdays but I wanted to be sure that everyone was updated on the move.

Hip Hop Press will be moving to on Sunday, April 2nd.

The new site is still in progress but should be complete sometime Sunday. I'm keeping it as simple as possible but there will be advertising and navigation features added over the next couple of days.

The main change will be the move to a separate domain. For now, everything else should work the same except for folks who are not using in their newsreaders. So if you picked up the feeds originating from the old site rather than the Feedburner feed, please go ahead and switch over so that your service will not be interrupted.

For now, I will continue to use the hiphoppress(at)netweed(dot)com email address for submissions and info requests.

The newsletter should not be affected by the move, since Hip Hop Press uses the feedburner feed for all such services.

I'm now caught up on all releases I received through Thursday. Stuff I got Friday and Saturday will be posted Sunday at the new site.

One of the great things about moving is that much of the punctuation that gets removed when making text readable at the current site will now come through intact. Unforeseen problems are always possible but my little test runs make me think that the move will be better for everybody.

Latino Rapper Chingo Bling To Make Major Announcement

What does Bad Boy Latino, Universal, Asylum (Warner Brothers), Capital, and Atlantic Records have in common? They were all biding for Latino superstar rap artist Chingo Bling from Houston, Texas. On April 1, 2006, Chingo Bling will announce to the world, which he chose during an interview on the Chicano Radio Network U.S.A.

Chingo Bling shot on to the countrys Urban seen with his hit single Walk like Cleto about his pet rooster. This hit not only showed Chingos ability to get peoples attention with humor, but it also showed what was soon to come out of his camp called Big Chile Enterprises. Today Chingo enjoys numerous releases from coast to coast with other mainstream hip-hop, rap and Latino artists like Baby Bash, Pit Bull, Pow Wow, Fat Joe, Nina Sky, Paul Wall, Mike Jones, Slim Thug, and NORE.

In recent months Big Chile Enterprises has showed is entrepreneurial might with DVD distribution of its Manosas series, as well as the Chingo Boots, bibs, coloring books, and other items.

I anticipate Big Chile Enterprises advancing Latino Entertainment in to the future much like Berry Gordy did with Black Entertainment at Motown. And with their no short cut policy, I am confident that their products of high integrity will continue to make the Latino Community proud.

South Asian Supermodel, Film Director and Rap
Personality Encourage 'Gandhi' Reading

Toronto -- 'Hip-Hop Literacy' campaign founder Raoul
Juneja (a.k.a. Deejay Ra) celebrated the highly
anticipated "Water" Canadian home video release with
star Lisa Ray and director Deepa Mehta, amongst
hundreds of the film's fans at Blockbuster Canada's
flagship video store March 12th in Downtown Toronto.

Juneja also launched a 'Mahatma Gandhi' literacy
tribute with the support of Ray and Mehta last week
through his Lyrical Knockout Entertainment company,
setting up Gandhi book and "Water" DVD giveaways for
students commemorating the return of the world leader
to North American cinema.

Born and raised in Toronto, it was while vacationing
across India that Lisa Ray was offered a photo shoot
by a Bollywood fashion magazine, the pictorial which
soon catapulted her to being one of India's most
recognized models. Accepting offers to appear in music
videos and to host her own TV show soon led Lisa, of
Bengali-Polish descent, to star in her first Bollywood

"Kasoor" later caught the attention of acclaimed
director Deepa Mehta and resulted in Lisa Ray starring
in Mehta's "Bollywood/Hollywood" comedy, which
received a world premiere at the 2002 Toronto Film
Festival. Lisa then spent the next few years across
London in theatre training to prepare for her role in
Mehta's "Water" film, which illuminates the plight of
widows in India during the 1930's.

Lisa Ray stars as one such widow who finds compassion
in a young activist inspired by Gandhi's words, played
by fellow Bollywood superstar John Abraham, who
originally catapulted to fame in India as a supermodel
of Iranian heritage. Deepa Mehta's "Water" film score
was composed by AR Rahman, an award-winning producer
who recently composed music for Andrew Lloyd Webber's
"Bombay Dreams" play, and who is currently producing
music for the "Lord of the Rings" stage adaptation.

"Not since Lord Attenborough's 'Gandhi' film release
over twenty years ago has the words of the Mahatma
been prominently heard in Canadian or US movie
theatres, or quoted this much in mainstream media,"
explains Juneja.

"Deepa's 'Water' film provides the perfect time for
North American teachers to re-introduce Gandhi to
multi-cultural students and outline his contributions
not only to India's independence movement, but also to
Dr. Martin Luther King and the American civil rights
struggle, as well as to Nelson Mandela and the
anti-apartheid movement in South Africa."

Fusion Hip-Hop Group Karmacy Articulates the Current Immigration Debate with the Hit Music Video, 'Blood Brothers'

The critically acclaimed fusion hip-hop group, Karmacy adds a personal perspective to the current immigration debate through the hit music video, "Blood Brothers."

Chatsworth, CA (PRWEB) March 31, 2006 -- The critically acclaimed fusion hip-hop group, Karmacy adds a personal perspective to the current immigration debate through the hit music video, "Blood Brothers."

Delivered in a combination of the English and Gujarati languages with English subtitles, Blood Brothers illustrates the toughest decision for an immigrant: whether to remain in the home country out of a sense of duty, or to seek fortunes elsewhere.

Shot on location in Los Angeles, the video follows two brothers -- one who stays in India with their family out of a sense of duty, and the other who seeks and finds success and fortune in America.

Blood Brothers received heavy rotation during the launch of the MTV Desi Network -- a concept targeting South Asian Americans, and was well received at the Asian American Film Festival in San Francisco this year.

The video is available at Rukus Avenue and from the popular video site YouTube.

Kabirs Biography:

Kabir is an independent rapper, singer and producer from London. His music brews a robust blend of raw flow and message-oriented lyrics with unusual beats and soulful melodies. He currently lives in Cambridge, MA, and performs regularly at colleges and clubs around the Northeast. Kabir has performed alongside a wide variety of musical giants such as The Roots, Wyclef Jean, Talib Kweli, Lyrics Born, Common, Soulive, Maceo Parker and Galactic.

Kabirs first self-produced album "Cultural Confusion" (featuring Mr.Lif, Virtuoso, & Esoteric) was released in 2001 and independently sold approximately 3000 units. Cultural Confusion is a multi-layered concept album with raw beats, real rhymes and instrumental interludes. Several songs on the record reveal Kabirs personal struggles with his own multi-racial identity, while others take a broader view of cultures and the conflicts between people.

Kabirs second album, Fuel for the Fire (Uncle Trouble Music) was released in August of 2003. For this album Kabir again called upon the services of some of Bostons hottest MCs including: Esoteric, Virtuoso, Shuman, and III Kings. A number of talented singers also contributed to this album such as: Amayo (Antibalas Afro-Beat Orchestra), Lady K (Red Pill), and Ajahni (Vibewise). Kabir produced many of the tracks on this album himself, and a number of guest producers also put their stamp on the record. Fuel for the Fire is about the way people live and the emotions that inspire us to do what we do. Each song on the record represents a different influence that affects us.

Kabirs new album, Peaceful Solutions, is due out on April 25th and is being released in partnership between Uncle Trouble Music and Raptivism Records. Once again Kabir has collaborated with a variety of different artists including Shuman, Ryan Montbleau, and Maria Alexieva on vocals. Many of the tracks on Peaceful Solutions are self produced, while others are done in collaboration with some of the same producers that Kabir worked with on, Fuel for the Fire. Peaceful Solutions will be Kabirs most widely distributed album.

Kabir currently performs live re-creations of these songs as well as those from Cultural Confusion and Fuel for the Fire with his band. The band features a rotating lineup of all-star musicians, however, Kabir is always held down by his DJ, Axel Foley on the turntables. Kabirs band provides the backbone for his live show: an infectious dose of thoughtful, energetic music.

On April 6th Hip-Hop Connection magazine celebrates its 200th issue (May 2006) with a 204 page special edition.

As the world's longest running rap monthly the first issue of the title was published back in 1988, months before its US rival The Source (in its newsletter form) was created the 200th issue marks a monumental hip-hop publishing milestone.

The front cover of the 200th issue features one of the most iconic hip-hop figures of the magazines lifespan, Snoop Dogg, while inside the magazine pays homage to those whove graced its pages over the years as classic interviews with acts like 50 Cent, A Tribe Called Quest, KRS-One, Salt-N-Pepa, Public Enemy, Ol Dirty Bastard, Eminem and the Wu-Tang Clan are reprinted, all with fresh retrospective writers commentary.

The 200th issue also pays homage to the UKs own hip-hop heroes with the first instalment of an authoritative UK old school rap roundtable, featuring Rodney P, Cookie (Cookie Crew), Overlord X, Aroe (First Down) and Dave Pearce (the Radio 1 deejay whose voice also announces the start of what many consider to be the greatest hip-hop album of all time, Public Enemy's It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back).

Elsewhere the magazine includes a long-due in-depth look at the development of hip-hop journalism and publishing, which includes commentary from US authors Jeff Chang, John Caramanica and Oliver Wang and original Hip-Hop Connection editor Chris Hunt, news of the worlds first hip-hop bibliography(in conjunction with the Born In The Bronx exhibition) and debate on the merits of reviewing rap albums.

The 200th issue also comes complete with an exclusive cover-mount CD mixing up the best of the US and UK, including tracks from Kanye West, Klashnekoff, The Game, Swiss, Notorious BIG, 2Pac, Paul Wall, Wolftown, Twista and Jehst.

Bad Boy South's 8 Ball & MJG New Album "Pure American Pimpin" Set For Release In July 2006

The Memphis rap duo Eightball & MJG, is back in the studio preparing to return on the scene with their follow-up album to the Gold selling "Living Legends".

MEMPHIS, TN (PRWEB) March 30, 2006 -- The Memphis rap duo Eightball & MJG, is back in the studio preparing to return on the scene with their follow-up album to the Gold selling "Living Legends". The title of the upcoming new album, which is scheduled for release July 18, 2006, is "Pure American Pimpin" with the first single off the new album being "For An Outfit" (available at and The album features the likes of Big Boi (Outkast), T.I., Juvenile, Jazze Phae, Lil Jon, and more.

Although many know the group only by their "Living Legends" album release, the Orange Mound Memphis, Tennessee veterans actually got their claim to fame from the classic 1993 debut release, "Comin Out Hard" which according to a recent interview with Concrete Magazine, the group plans to return to that original flava or as Eightball put it, "We call this album Pure American Pimpin because its like back to basics for us".

When asked do they think overexposure will play out the whole M Town get crunk and get buck style and sound because it's exploding all around the world, the group had this to say:

MJG: It might kill the era, but thats really just an era created by hype anyway. We were doing this type of music before they were calling it the get crunk era. We really dont rely on what they call the era. We are just trying to make good music and basically, stick to the format. When we look at material, we dont sit down and try to make it fit with the get crunk era. Its not really something that we worry about. If cats are really crafting their stuff for that, they are the ones that will be worse off...

8 Ball: ... Theyre the ones that are going to be worried. Its those cats that are bragging because theyve been rapping for two years and their career might not last more than two years. That's why some of the cats that are gimmick rappers from the South need to be worried. But 8 Ball and MJG [dont have to be worried]. Our first album came out in 1993. Three-6 Mafias first album came out in 1995. In 2005 we have the number two single in the nation, right now. This is ten, almost fifteen years later, so were not worried. We are going to do us. Weve got a fan base of a million people that love what we do and as long as we keep it true to them, theyre going to keep it true to us.

To hear the newest single "For An Outfit" off the "Pure American Pimpin" album or for more information on Eightball & MJG logon to the official 8 Ball & MJG website at or find Eightball & MJG music and more at (Audio available at!

Beginning March 31, fans can go to to discover great music from British chanteuse Corinne Bailey Rae, pop-punks Cartel, country band The Lost Trailers, hard-rocking Aussie trio Wolfmother, rhythmic singer-songwriter Mat Kearney and 15-year-old hip-hop phenomenon Young Leek.

Throughout the season, these new Breaker artists will be showcased on and across the AOL(R) Music and Radio Networks. Elements of the artist campaigns include an appearance on AOL(R) Sessions, the intimate, in-studio performance series, AIM(R) Music Interviews, song and music video debuts, and heavy rotation on AOL Radio
( ).

As announced earlier this month, AOL Music's Breakers program is sponsored by Mercedes-Benz for 2006. In addition to its support of these great artists and other Breakers to be named throughout the year, Mercedes-Benz has joined with AOL Music to create the "On Our Radar" feature, designed to showcase even more up-and-coming talent on a weekly basis.

"There's no way of overstating the impact of being an AOL Music Breaker," said Ne-Yo, whose debut album, In My Own Words entered at # 1 on Billboard's Top 200 chart, selling over 300, 000 copies. "My music was played millions of times on AOL Music and introduced me to a whole new audience. It's a great way to break through."

Recent Breakers success stories also include 2006 Best New Artist Grammy winner John Legend and platinum artists Fall Out Boy and Sugarland, as well as newcomers Panic! at the Disco and Teddy Geiger. Other artists to be featured as Breakers at the onset of their careers include Avril Lavigne, Josh Groban, 50 Cent, Michelle Branch, The Game, Jet and Keyshia Cole.

This season's Breaker artists include:
Corinne Bailey Rae (Capitol Records): Much-talked about newcomer Corinne Bailey Rae has been called the British Norah Jones, but this soul siren has also garnered comparisons to Erykah Badu and Jill Scott. The stylish chanteuse has already set the U.K. press aflutter with her critically acclaimed self-titled debut. Her album lands stateside on June 20.

Cartel (Epic Records): Super-catchy pop-punk from the South, these Atlanta boys already have a devoted Web following and were voted by the staff of Alternative Press as a Band You Need To Know. In their short history as a band, Cartel has already toured the country multiple times and will be part of the Warped tour this summer. The album, Chroma, is currently in stores.
The Lost Trailers (BNA): This Atlanta-based band plays straight from the hip country music that caught the attention of Willie Nelson in 2000 who invited them to play his Fourth of July Picnic. Their music features Stokes Nielson's gift for songwriting, Ryder Lee's passionate vocals, Manny Medina's signature guitar licks, Jeff Potter and Andrew Nielson's driving rhythm and topped off with Trailer harmonies. The self-titled album is planned for release July 2006.

Wolfmother (Interscope Records): With an awe-inspiring display of ear-shattering riff-rock, this Australian trio had the buzz show at this year's South By Southwest music festival in Austin. Wolfmother plays monstrous hard rock in the grand tradition of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and AC/DC, and they mix it with a modern sensibility a la the White Stripes. For any lovers of take-no-prisoners rock & roll -- the band's self-titled debut will be unleashed on fans on May 2.

Mat Kearney (Columbia Records): Unassuming yet supremely talented, Mat Kearney writes memorable pop rock songs, with just a hint of hip-hop. His music echoes with touches of John Mayer and Coldplay, as he combines great hooks, revealing lyrics from the heart, and his own brand of spoken-word into a new mix. Kearney's album, Nothing Left to Lose, is slated for release on April 18.

Young Leek (Def Jam): At just 15 years old, Talik Baker (a.k.a. Young Leek) was signed on the spot by Island Def Jam Chairman, Antonio "LA" Reid, after auditioning in the executive's New York City office. Leek's energetic flow evokes Nelly and Chingy, as showcased in his crazy-infectious single, "Jiggle It," which hits airwaves in mid-April. The debut album, Something to Prove, is scheduled to drop this summer.

Get Affiliated With MC Eiht On April 4

MC Eiht's first album through Paid In Full/Koch, Affiliated, will be released on April 4, signifying the Compton rappers nineteenth album release. His first enhanced disc, the special product will contain 14 album tracks, exclusive interview footage and a new music video starring MC Eiht, performing the song Say Nothin.
Among the albums authentic Compton born and bred tracks is the radio single, CPTz Bac (159 Remix Featuring CMW), produced by Raw Steel. The song received an extra kick when it was added into airplay at the legendary Los Angeles radio station KDAY by Julio G.
Throughout Affiliated, MC Eiht comes back strapped with his trademark style on new songs like Where U Frum (Featuring Gangsta Luv of the Road Dawgs).
Just Lean is a laid back track by Chill and DJ Subflo, a drum and bass producer, who is also a well-known rave DJ. Eiht says, "I got down with my man Sub, because I wanted people to know that we got all types of flavors, not just hiphop, but we got all kinds of diversity. So I did this one on the strength of how we lean in Compton." Eiht acknowledges the track is reminiscent of much of the feel of his classic album with Comptons Most Wanted, Music To Driveby because there are a lot of slow grooves on it. "A lot of down South niggas like to hear their stuff slow and screwed and chopped, so that was my focus when I heard the beat; the first thing I thought about was Texas and down South, and how they be chopping and screwing their shit. I wanted for them to get down, because theyve always been supportive of MC Eiht, and what I do, so I just wanted to throw some of that back."
Gangsta Minded (Featuring Jaz and Chill) introduces Jaz, a female rapper. Eiht says, "Chill made the beat, and she wanted to rip it, so we let her get down, and we decided to hop on down there with her. Her flow is tight, and she is real gangsta with it. No fur coats and talking about sex and diamonds, because shes hood with it. If a female raps, I want to hear her come like me. When she did it, I was amazed. A nigga didnt have to direct her, or tell her what to write about, because she knows where she was from. On a solo project, it is the first time I ever got down with a female, and she put it down tight."
The long anticipated track Smoke This (Featuring Chill and Jayo Felony) was produced by Silk some time ago, but was never released. Eiht remarks, "It describes what were seeing in street rap, gangsta rap right now. At the time we recorded it, people were rapping about happy stuff like partying and chains and planes and stuff. We were expressing our frustration in the music, and we were fed up with people not wanting to deal with the real in their music. Now people are trying to be hard and trying to be where theyre not even from. So it is still just perfect for today."
Eiht explains the inspiration behind the track 2 Compton MFz (Featuring Big2DaBoy). "I was an old school NWA, Eazy-E fan. Eazy and Ren had a song back in the day called 2 Hard MFs, so I wanted to say two Compton motherf*&^%$s, cuz its introducing the upcoming artist Big2daboy at my label, West Music. I wanted to showcase it with us both being from Compton. With his being the young generation and me being like the older generation, I wanted to show that we still have it on lock."
Authentic Compton. Keepin it gangsta since 1988, MC Eiht has been releasing genuine issue Compton tracks. Accordingly, he has solidly earned the respect of his fans and peers in the industry. With his solo recordings, his work with Comptons Most Wanted and his stealthy collaborations, this highly prolific artist has previously released 18 albums, and this number does not even include the greatest hits, compilation albums or feature film soundtrack albums that have also resulted.
As one of the early Compton masters, MC Eiht has maintained a career with longevity that is the envy of many other artists. When he first rocked the mic in the studio, it was with CMW, comprised of producers Slip and DJ Unknown, plus Tha Chill, and their luminary scratcher DJ Mike T. Producer/director John Singleton lauded them as the musical inspiration for his classic film, "Boyz In The Hood," and the groups song, Growin Up In The Hood, was picked as the single for its soundtrack. Eihts releases with CMW, "Straight Checkn Em" and "Music To Driveby" quickly became West Coast underground classics. Eiht, who has graced the cover of the "Source Magazine" twice, appeared in the Hughes Brothers feature film "Menace II Society," and he also achieved critical acclaim for his single, Streiht Up Menace, which appeared on the films multi-platinum selling soundtrack, driving it to the Number One spot on the Billboard Top 100 R&B Albums Chart, and holding that position for eight weeks straight. "We Come Strapped," which quickly achieved gold status, was singled out for attack in a speech by then Presidential candidate Bob Dole.
Always in demand, he has accepted numerous offers to record duets on albums released by other artists, three of whom include Spice One, Scarface and Pete Rock. Relentless, Eiht has released a slew of solo albums. He also played the role of Ryder on Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, and CMW is heard within its soundtrack. More importantly, however, MC Eihts music is the soundtrack of the streets, and of the Hub City, Compton, California, a feat that is envied by many other artists, despite their heavy padding from corporate bankrolling that has helped spawn a growing number of wanna-be imitators.
On Affiliated, Eiht logs onto this official Compton forum, addressing the fact that corporate sponsored hiphop artists have misconstrued and misrepresented West Coast gang culture. Eiht says, "A lot of what you're seeing in the videos out there is fake. Because a lot of these niggas who are doing this now were not even doing this shit, gangbangin. For me to be the age I am, and to know gangbangin' in Compton since I was 12 years old, a lot of these cats, who are claiming this and that, aint but 26 years old. So a lot of them werent even around when it started. Also, they're not even in the geographic areas, the sections that gang banging was even involved in. Like it just evolved a couple years ago in certain areas, and now niggas run with it, and pretend like they grew up with it. To have niggas thirty years later start gangbanging, and saying that theyre original with it is just ludicrous." Eiht notes that the public gets fooled because of the large amount of money that has been spent on marketing from corporate dollars, as he observes, "The corporations are just trying to market our culture. So now its marketable to major corporations to wear tattoos and wear a rag, and claim to be from a neighborhood."
Designer gangstas versus real Compton is the result, as MC Eiht has watched the commercialization of a culture that came into significance through artists like himself, who grew up in Compton, and who brought its issues to the attention of the rest of the world. Says Eiht, "Bandanas have always fascinated niggas who dont know the significance behind them. Because niggas putting on white rags, orange rags, and all this, dont even know the history behind it. However, if you take something and sell it to mainstream America, and mainstream America doesnt know what the culture of it is, youre going to be able to feed into the fakery thats been created. And thats just what is happening now. You have these high school kids and 21 year-old kids, and you got a new nigga introducing it to them, because these kids didnt know what was going on back then, when they was two and three years old, but now, through the corporations, it is being taught it to them by niggas who just started doing it, themselves, just two years ago. "
Delivering his latest release Affiliated, MC Eiht brings more tracks that are already considered to be Compton, Cali neo-classics. Geah!

'Now Latino' Debuts #1 On The Billboard Latin Chart

Highest Debuting Spanish Language Compilation Ever!

NEW YORK, March 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Following the footsteps of prior Now That's What I Call Music CD releases, "Now Latino - Esto Es Musica!" has topped the charts! "Now Latino - Esto Es Musica!" takes the #1 spot on the Billboard Latin Chart making it the highest debuting Spanish language compilation ever. This first week success also makes Now Latino the highest debuting Spanish language album this year!

"This is a strong indication that Latin culture and demand for the Latin sound has become entrenched in America," said Marco Bissi, President and CEO EMI Music Latin America. "And Latin music is strong across a number of genres: Pop, Reggaeton, Rock and more, which is evident from artists on Now Latino, ranging from RBD and A.B. Quintanilla III presents Kumbia Kings to Thalia."

"Latin Music continues to grow and reach an ever widening audience. The release of Now Latino is further evidence of the genre's evolution ... the timing is perfect!" said Ruben Leyva, VP/GM Sony BMG U.S. Latin.

Including several #1's and Top 10's hits, Now Latino represents the best of current Latin and Reggaeton music available on one CD. This is the first Spanish language album to be released as part of the NOW franchise. Collectively the artists on Now Latino have sold over 20 million units in the U.S. to date.

"Universal Music Latino is excited to be a part of the introduction of Latin Music to the world's most recognized compilation brand. We look forward to expanding our artists' reach with the exposure this CD will garner," said John Echevarria, President Universal Music Latino.

Now That's What I Call Music! is the most consistent multi-platinum- selling music brand today -- it has achieved US sales of more than 55 million units to become the most successful multi-artist series of all time. NOW is an unprecedented cooperative project between EMI Music, The Universal Music Group, Sony BMG Music Entertainment and the Zomba Group of labels. Since it was introduced in the United States seven years ago, the series has been known as a harbinger of contemporary tastes and a reflection of the most popular music of the day. Every single CD in the Now That's What I Call Music series has been certified platinum or multi-platinum, and NOW remains the most successful branded compilation ever launched in the music business, with continual, massive chart and sales successes.

The series debuted in the United States in 1998 after the NOW brand had been an enormous, multi-platinum international success for nearly 20 years, with some 56 volumes featuring pop hits released in the UK alone. To date, the NOW series has generated sales of 146 million albums worldwide. Every album in the US NOW series has reached the Billboard Top 10 and eight have now debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200, making NOW the only non-soundtrack, multi-artist collection to occupy the top spot on this distinguished album sales chart.

Swisha House Sets up New Releases for 2006; Platinum-Selling Paul Wall and Mike Jones Putting Finishing Touches on New CDs

Swisha House to Debut New CDs by Artists Lil Keke, Coota Bang and Archie Lee

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 28, 2006--Now after turning us all out on iced-out grills, candy paint and 84-spoked rims, the Swisha House returns with an all-star lineup for 2006; Mike Jones and Paul Wall are scheduled to both drop follow-up albums. Jones' The American Dream will be released by early summer, and Paul's Ain't No 401K For A Hustla will hit store shelves in the Fall.

"I look forward to Swisha House being one of the next big labels in the game," prophesizes label co-CEO G-Dash. "In 2006 we're going to expand and do a variety of things."

And with releases this Fall, that variety includes label signee Coota Bang's debut album Big Bang Theory and the return of original Swisha House member, Archie Lee, who took a brief hiatus from the house, is now back in the fold with Hollyhood.

Through a relationship with TF Records the Swisha House will be involved with the reintroduction of Houston rapper Lil Keke, an original member of DJ Screw's, the Screwed Up Click. TF Records will drop Loved By Few Hated By Many in the fall as well.

But the streets have been craving for the newest installment of the classic compilation series The Day Hell Broke Loose 3. The long-awaited album is slated for an August release. The early candidate for the lead single is a track called Gangsta, a hood song with a classic scarface rhyme for the hook, featuring Lil Keke, Coota Bang and Scarface. Also featured on the CD is "So Fly," which features Lil Keke and Paul Wall pairing up to serenade their cars like they serenade females. The Day Hell Broke Loose 3 also features Swisha House artist Archie Lee, Houston veteran Z-Ro, and Juelz Santana.

Although the rest of the free world is just beginning to catch up with Swisha House after the mainstream success of breakthrough artists Mike Jones and Paul Wall, the north side Houston empire has been holding down the underground for more than a decade strong. Launching the careers of the Dirty South's most known and unknown underground kings, Swisha House has been the most influential imprint to emerge from the Lone Star State since Rap-A-Lot.

The label staked its claim on the national scene last year with the release of Mike Jones' platinum-plated SwishaHouse/Asylum/Warner Brothers debut Who Is Mike Jones? and Paul Wall's platinum-selling smash hit The People's Champ via SwishaHouse/Asylum/Atlantic Records. Swisha House takes pride in having taken on the bulk of marketing of both releases themselves through the development of cutting edge visuals (video, photos), grassroots sales and radio campaigns and without warning, single after blistering single spawned Billboard success with Mike's "Still Tippin'" and "Back Then" and Paul's "Sittin' Sideways." But last year was just the tip of the iceberg.
"We have a proven track record," label co-CEO DJ Michael "5000" Watts explains. "I've always said that no matter how big we get, we're going to continue to treat this as if we didn't have a deal."

The foundation for this self-sustained powerhouse was built back in 1996 on Houston's rugged north side by Michael "5000" Watts, a celebrity neighborhood DJ who made a name for himself selling mix tapes back in high school for lunch money. Inspired by elements of the legendary DJ Screw for his mixes, Watts would also "screw and chop" his music and allow neighborhood rappers the opportunity to freestyle over his popular instrumentals.

Of these hungry, unsigned talents were Slim Thug, Chamillionaire, Paul Wall and Mike Jones. As his movement grew to a cult-like following across the south and into the Mid-West, Watts enlisted a team of proven go-getters to aid him in his vision- co-CEO G. Dash, label president and A&R T Farris and VP of Marketing and Promotions Michael Clarke. Together, they ran the independent label like a fine-tuned machine.

Just as 2005 was, 2006 promises to be a huge year for the Swisha House.

Fresh, Shady Records' Obie Trice, Stat Quo, and Bobby Creekwater, Spudd from Detroit's Hot 102.7FM and Chrysler Financial's experts James Whitlow and Gerrod Parchmon came together to teach the 18-35 year old audience about financial literacy.

"Music in the 1960s was a force that moved and inspired us. Hip-hop is also a platform for change and Chrysler Financial recognizes the power of hip-hop culture," said Klaus Entenmann, President and CEO -- DaimlerChrysler Financial Services Americas.

Attendees actively participated in the Summit by working in the "Get Your Money Right" workbook. Topics discussed included: FICO, basics of banking, repairing and understanding credit scores, asset and wealth management, vehicle financing and home ownership. The workbook was co-written by HSAN, Chrysler Financial, as well as other outside support and printed in both Spanish and English for 2006.

Russell Simmons offered this encouragement, "Before you make a decision to invest in yourself, start by giving yourself the opportunity," he emphasized. "Envision it and then work hard at what you want to get."

The Three 6 Mafia stars -- DJ Paul, Juicy J and Crunchy Black -- who have elevated hip-hop with their Academy Award win and performance, had this advice to give, "Pay your taxes, save your money, watch who you hang around with. Trust and believe in yourself."

Representative John Conyers, Jr. of Detroit, now in his 20th term in the U.S. House of Representatives, attended and spoke in support of the event. Conyers, a strong supporter of financial literacy initiatives, also supports financial literacy through his involvement in MoneySmart Week, April 22-29, in Michigan.

MoneySmart Week is a partnership between the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago - Detroit Branch and the MoneySmart Week Advisory Council. Chrysler Financial has been an active member on the council since its inception in 2004.

In honor of HSAN's 5th anniversary, the next Hip-Hop Summit on Financial Empowerment will be April 22 in New York City, the first Hip-Hop Summit there since the very first Summit in June of 2001. This year's "Get Your Money Right" tour includes stops that coincide with the college school year schedule on May 20 in Miami, September 16 in Atlanta, September 30 in Los Angeles and October 14 in Dallas.

GenX Stores to be First Major Chain Distributor of 1st Hip Hop Fashions Focused Magazine, URB1

Urban & Hip Hop Fashions store chain GenX Incorporated has signed a deal with URB1 Magazine to become the first retailer of the print publication. Opening in 1998, the explosive growth store chain will start by offering the first 1,000 customers of their April-opening on-line site, a free copy of URB1 Magazine. Hip Hop fashion history has been made.

(PRWEB) March 29, 2006 -- URB1 Magazine, "sibling" publication of the 1st Hip Hop fashion website URB1.COM, has finally found a major urban fashion retail store chain to call home. Gen-X Stores Inc., a retail chain with forty stores and growing rapidly since 1998, has contracted and engaged in a venture with the Urban and Hip Hop fashions magazine.

"This is the beginning of success. The demand for both URB1's publications is growing and has excelled since ground zero. Due to online availabilities in the hip hop community, URB1 Magazine is a necessity. The executives at GenX know URB1's track record and want to utilize the magazine to their advantage," says the CEO for both URB1 publications, Rodrick Rainey.

Two of the company's executives met in Las Vegas during the MAGIC fashion convention this past February. Meeting for the first time, it was decided Gen-X stores would distribute 1,000 copies of URB1 Magazine.

Moving forward with plans to launch an online GenX store, the multi-million dollar company found URB1.COM and URB1 Magazine to be the hosts of their target audience.

Also guaranteeing a direct relationship with URB1.COM in the near future, GenX plans to become a major urban fashion retail competitor online. Investing millions into a coming advertisement campaign, all buyers from their online store will receive a copy of URB1 magazine compliments of the GenX company.

I think the partnership with GenX is definitely something that's going to last for a long time. You have a company like GenX that's quickly expanding and URB1 Magazine that's filling a much needed void in the coverage of hip-hop fashion. The partnership just seems so natural, said product placement and review editor, Corey Hutchins.

GenXs online store opening date has yet to be defined specifically. However, the company does want to have it launched by the end of April 2006.

URB1 Magazines May/June issue will be released late April. Lupe Fiasco is planned to be on the cover, as the company hosted a very interesting, in depth interview with the internationally known, fashionable artist.

Black Eyed Peas to Design Rock Star Suite for Hard Rock Hotel San Diego

Condo-Suite to be Donated to Band's Charity, The Peapod Foundation

SAN DIEGO, March 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Hard Rock Hotel San Diego, the city's first branded condo-hotel, announced today its partnership with the Grammy(R) Award-winning Black Eyed Peas to collaborate on the design for one of the condo-hotel's Rock Star Suites, and to raise awareness and funds for The Black Eyed Peas' charity, The Peapod Foundation, a global organization dedicated to providing opportunities and support for children worldwide ( The band --, Fergie, and Taboo -- will collaborate on the design for the suite, which will reflect each member's individual style and unique personality.

"Hard Rock is a brand that has always been true to its core and I really dig the direction these guys are headed in San Diego," said "When I heard about this project, I knew I had to be a part of it and what we're going to do will be outrageous and, at the same time, benefit the Peapod Foundation and children all over the world. All the band -- Fergie,, Taboo and I -- will have input so it's going to be a great time for us all."

Hard Rock Hotel San Diego will have a total of 17 custom-designed Rock Star Suites. As the name suggests, they are unique suites: one suite planned for the top floor of the hotel will feature a fire pit and deck seating for 20, while another boasts 270-degree views of the San Diego Bay and an outdoor hot tub. The suite to be designed by the Black Eyed Peas will be donated to The Peapod Foundation by the project developer, 5th Rock, LLC. The Foundation will then have the option of selling the custom-designed suite, with proceeds benefiting the charity.

In designing their Rock Star Suite, the group will hand select everything from the furniture to the bed linens. It will also reflect band members' personal touches, such as a video greeting from for guests staying in the suites, where he suggests everything from his favorite haunts in the historic Gaslamp Quarter to choice tunes stashed in his personal music collection.

Currently the property being sold as a condo-hotel, one of the first in Southern California, is aptly positioning itself with the tagline "Your Place. Your Rules.(TM)" Owners will be "treated like Rock Stars," from Rande Gerber's bars, to the Nobu restaurant, to the hotel's roof top pool overlooking the Gaslamp. The property has already generated an interest list of more than 6,000 Hard Rock aficionados.

"What we're doing here in downtown San Diego is going to infuse the area with the energy and style associated with the Hard Rock Hotel brand," remarked Greg Casserly, President of Tarsadia Hotels, the operator. "From Hard Rock to Gerber to Nobu to The Peas, this place is making news around the world and it's going to play a massive part in this city's coming of age. Working with The Peas is going to be a blast. I love their music and the ideas they've shared are so far out there I'm more than confident this is going to be a massive hit. The best part of this though is the fact that the developer, 5th Rock, LLC., has agreed to donate a million dollar Rock Star Suite to The Peapod Foundation -- a great and worthy cause that we're all excited to be associated with."

The Peapod Foundation is a children's charity dedicated to providing opportunities and support for children who suffer worldwide. It is a donor-advice fund administered through the Entertainment Industry Foundation.

Currently under construction at the corner of Fifth Avenue and L Street, scheduled to open in summer 2007, Hard Rock Hotel San Diego will be the trendsetter for modern luxury real estate and continue to transform the downtown core into a first-class urban destination. The game is based on the increasing worldwide popularity of break dancing and will give a realistic representation of its dance moves and actions. DJ Strong and Tri-Star, Also Known as Lil Kurupt, Release Cali Untouchable Radio Part 6 on

(PRWEB) March 28, 2006 -- All eyes are on Tri-Star. This L.A.-born, Compton-bred emcee is about to bring the West Coast back to the top of the rap game with the help of DJ Strong of the award-winning "Cali Untouchable DJs." Along with DJ Strong as the mastermind of this West Coast movement, Tri-Star will be continuing the tradition of true street music from Compton. From King Tee to Eazy-E, from DJ Quik to Game, Compton's been the home of the greatest gangsta rappers west of the Mississippi. So, pop the gate! Tri-Star is next.

But don't get it twisted. Tri-Star's been puttin' in work since 1995, not to mention that he's been working with Kurupt and other Dogg Pound affiliates like Roscoe for the last 7 years. In fact, Tri-Star's chemistry with Kurupt has been so smooth that they are planning to release an album at the end of May under their new group called Y.A. (Youth Authority). Tri-Star has even been dubbed as "Lil' Kurupt," though his closest homies call him "Pee Wee" because he was the youngest n**** on the block. Still, Tri-Star stays on his grind with his closest homies like the Anterazh n****z (P.S.G.), who've been down since day one. Tri-Star is good in every hood. Though he's from the Eastside, he went to Crenshaw High on the Westside. You could say that he experienced the best of both worlds. Whether you're from the Westside or Eastside, or a Blood or Cuz, true hip-hop heads know that he speaks that true street s***.

The streets have been waitin' to see. Tri-Star is back by popular demand. His discography includes tracks on mixtapes like "Palm Trees & Gangstas," "Cali Untouchable Radio 5," and "West Coast Mixtape Kings Vol. 1." But Tri-Star's newest mixtape, "Cali Untouchable Radio Volume 6," is a solo effort that could be considered an album that could only be brought to you by DJ Strong. Claim your set and be the first on your block to cop "Cali Untouchable Radio Volume 6." Make sure to collect all 8 mixtapes of the critically-acclaimed "Cali Untouchable Radio" series and support the West Coast movement.

So, iron them khakis, sag them hard, and get down with the rapper that DJ Strong is personally cosigning as one of the hottest acts out of Killa Cali. Rep your city, your county, f*** it your whole state by supporting Tri-Star, the "Cali Untouchable DJs," and HipHopWest, your one-stop shop for all things West Coast.

Brevard Launches Annual Conference on Music Entrepreneurship

Conference helps turn musicians into entrepreneurs; addresses urgent need for alternative career tracks in music.

Brevard, NC (PRWEB) March 28, 2006 -- Brevard Music Center, a leading summer institute and festival, announced today the establishment of the first conference to help turn musicians into entrepreneurs. The Brevard Conference on Music Entrepreneurship (BCOME) to be held July 14-16, 2006, at the Brevard Music Center, Brevard, NC, will help U.S. musicians and students, many of whom struggle to support themselves, learn how to survive in the music business. Establishing a career in music is second only in competitiveness to professional sports, according to Michael Drapkin, executive director of BCOME. In the United States alone, said Drapkin, 14,000 music students graduate each year, but only 5% find work as musicians.

The current reality of the music business is that most performers now training will not be able to find work or support themselves, said Drapkin. The conference will provide performers with the tools they need to help earn a living doing what they love whether it be establishing their own ensemble, organization or program.

BCOME explores career tracks beyond the traditional job pathways. Thought provoking and innovative, the three-day conference offers workshops, lectures and instruction on how to envision and establish ones own career as a music entrepreneur, with unique tracks specifically tailored for performers, college faculty and industry professionals.

BE Noteworthy
BCOME is open to anyone interested in learning how to become a music entrepreneur.
Guest speakers include some of the countrys finest musicians, teachers and entrepreneurs,
more including Dr. Robert Freeman (Dean of the College of Fine Arts at University of Texas at Austin), Gerd Leonhard (co-author of The Future of Music: Manifesto for the Digital Music Revolution) and David Effron (chair of the conducting department at Indiana University). A complete list of speakers is below. Conference members will learn how to market themselves, and the conference will address such topics as:

The ins and outs of networking
Market research
Use of electronic media for self-promotion
Business plan writing
Funding partners
Business legalities
Models of entrepreneurship

In addition, the conference will help participants be more creative through self-discovery and shaped note singing exercises, round-table discussions and a traditional square dance. They will have access to the Brevard Music Centers picturesque 140-acre campus, as well as tickets to a variety of performances.

We are pleased to host the Brevard Conference on Music Entrepreneurship, said BMC President John Candler. Each summer, the Brevard Music Center nurtures the talent of 400 of Americas most promising young musicians. Many of our students go on to establish professional careers, yet the realities of finding a job in the current market are limited. In addition to training young musicians to be excellent performers, Brevard Music Center is also interested in providing them with further career skills to ensure a successful future.

BCOME is funded by a grant from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. Registration is open to 75 participants, and the fee is $300. Scholarships are available.

About the Brevard Music Center
The Brevard Music Center (BMC), a summer institute and festival located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina, provides the perfect backdrop for BCOME. For 70 years, BMC has provided gifted students the opportunity to better understand and prepare themselves for the professional world of music. More than 80 performances presented each season showcase the talented students who come to Brevard each summer to study. The intense summer living, working and performing alongside professional musicians is often a life-changing experience for its young people.

Bailey's Beauty Shop Makeover Program Salutes Local Brooklyn Salon

March 30, 2006 (New York, NY) -Bailey's Original Irish Cream, the #1 selling liqueur in the world, has created the Bailey's Beauty Shop, an innovative, breakthrough program that celebrates the entrepreneurial spirit of urban beauty salon owners across the country and provides their businesses with interior design makeovers. This month, G's Urban Hair Styles Salon in Brooklyn was selected as the New York recipient for a salon makeover.

Recognizing that urban beauty salons along with barber shops have historically been the most influential, respected, and staple business enterprises within African-American communities, Baileys Beauty Shop is a unique way to assist salon owners in raising their visibility within their respective neighborhoods. African-American owned beauty salons have long been known for providing their customers an oasis away from the world where they could feel free to bond and gossip.

"Beauty salons serve as important hubs of communication and connectivity and sometimes a rite of passage for African-American women," said Alefiyah Merchant, Baileys Brand Manager for Diageo. "Baileys' support of shop owners and stylists is a perfect means to help further stimulate their businesses."

The Baileys makeover transforms the salon into an upscale retreat complete with new mirrors, furniture, workstations, and a fresh coat of paint incorporating Baileys signature colors into the space. The makers of Baileys liqueur chose G's Urban Hair Styles Salon in Brooklyn because of salon owner, Garvin Greaves' vision, commitment to the community, and his continued efforts to live his dream. As a young child, the Trinidad-native would sit on his mother's porch and cut his neighbors' hair. At the age of 21, Greaves migrated to the United States to achieve his goals of owning a hair salon.

"I'm honored that G's was selected to be part of the Baileys Beauty Shop program," said Garvin Greaves. "It has always been my dream to own an upscale beauty salon and now my dream has become a reality."
In addition to the interior design makeover, Baileys liqueur and G's Urban Hair Styles will host private, invitation-only networking events on Thursday evenings where salon guests 21 and older can enjoy live entertainment, refreshments, and complimentary beauty treatments. The official launch event will take place on March 30.

"Girlfriends love hanging out at the shop and catching up with each other. Knowing they can completely be themselves at the beauty shop is important, and we believe there is no better way to responsibly enjoy Baileys than when getting together with friends," said Merchant. "But more importantly, we want to be a part of what's happening in the community, and we want to put a stake in the ground to say we support small business leaders that make every day life more enjoyable."

The New York launch follows a successful November 2005 introduction in Philadelphia. The Baileys Beauty Shop will also make stops in Chicago, L.A., Washington D.C., Atlanta, Houston, and Detroit through June 2006.
G's Urban Hair Styles Salon is located at 75 St. Marks Avenue, between Flatbush & Carlton Avenues, Brooklyn, NY 11217.

WWE(R) Launches the WWE Music Group, Neil Lawi Named General Manager

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 27, 2006--World Wrestling Entertainment(R) announces the formation of the WWE Music Group, a 21st century music company linking the WWE brand with popular music across all media platforms, including film, television, radio, the Internet, ring tones, video games, and emerging digital technologies. Among its directives, the new WWE Music Group will work with in-house talent, as well as established recording artists and outside labels and management, to create new music for WWE television and pay-per-view programming, WWE Superstar albums, entrance theme collections, and a variety of new initiatives.

Neil Lawi has been named General Manager of the WWE Music Group, it was announced today by Kevin Dunn, WWE's Executive Vice President, Television Production. Lawi, who is based in New York City and reports to Dunn, will be charged with handling all business aspects, as well as day-to-day operations, of the WWE Music Group. Lawi will work closely with Jim Johnston, who has been Music Director for the WWE for more than 20 years, and who will continue to create and produce original music for the WWE, including Superstar and entrance themes.

"This is an outstanding opportunity to merge the brand and talents of the WWE with a wide variety of music applications," commented Dunn. "Neil has established meaningful relationships with music industry personnel, including record labels, artist management teams, and publishers. His music industry experience provides a vital and essential element in expanding the reach of the WWE's musical sensibility. Like the music industry, the WWE is all about entertainment and our new music initiative puts the WWE into the mainstream, alongside our viewers.

"Importantly, there is a great symbiotic relationship between WWE and the music industry. We enjoy working with artists at every level, and have recent working relationships with many well-known performers - including Kid Rock, Korn, Staind, Fat Joe, P.O.D., Shinedown, Lifehouse, Creed, and Alter Bridge - and welcome the opportunity to create new avenues of expression for a wide variety of artists."

According to Lawi, one of his first priorities is to reach out to major and key independent labels and music publishers to broaden the variety of music available to WWE. "Bands today need new opportunities for awareness, and WWE has proven to be a perfect platform to reach a key music purchasing demographic," said Lawi. "My focus will be to expand the talent pool from which the WWE draws to include the widest possible range of music while providing artists maximum opportunity and exposure to music purchasing audience segments via the WWE brand."

Lawi recently forged an alliance with rock legend Peter Gabriel to license his mega-hit "Big Time" as the global music theme for WrestleMania(R) 22, which will be broadcast live on pay-per-view on Sunday, April 2, from Rosemont's Allstate Arena in Chicago. WWE's latest compilation of covers is scheduled for release through Columbia Records on May 23, 2006. The collection will showcase WWE Superstar themes performed by Three 6 Mafia, Tego Calderon, P.O.D., Saliva, Killswitch Engage, Avenged Sevenfold, Motorhead, and a host of others. Atlantic recording group P.O.D. is scheduled to perform "Booyaka 619" at WrestleMania 22, a song recorded for the album and the entrance theme song for WWE SmackDown Superstar Rey Mysterio(TM). Lawi has also secured Michelle Williams from the multi-platinum group Destiny's Child to sing "America The Beautiful" to kick off the annual WrestleMania celebration.

Under Lawi's aegis, the WWE recently launched the music career of WWE RAW Superstar John Cena(R), whose hip-hop album on Columbia Records, "You Can't See Me," debuted at No. 15 on the Billboard Top 200 best-selling albums chart and is rapidly approaching the RIAA gold mark.

Prior to his current promotion, Lawi served as WWE's Vice President, Publicity, where he was responsible for obtaining domestic and international media exposure for WWE Superstars, including Vince McMahon(TM), Stone Cold Steve Austin(TM), Hulk Hogan(TM), Triple H(R), Stacy Keibler(R), and John Cena. He also oversaw the placement of WWE Superstars in motion pictures, garnered national media attention around WrestleMania, and worked closely to develop media opportunities among WWE brands, including "Monday Night RAW(R)" and "Friday Night SmackDown(R)".

Before joining the WWE family, Lawi served as Vice President, Publicity, Columbia Records Group, where he had worked since 1993. While at Columbia, he was responsible for artist publicity for a wide variety of artists including, James Taylor, Aerosmith, Johnny Cash, Neil Diamond, Train, Shawn Colvin, T Bone Burnett, and Cypress Hill. Lawi also played a critical role in the launch of American Recordings (Rick Rubin), and DMZ Records (T Bone Burnett).

Artist Qwes Lands in Miami for Spring Bling 2006 and Winter Music Conference getting ready for single release.

Artist Qwes Lands in Miami for Spring Bling 2006 and Winter Music Conference getting ready for single release.

(PRWEB) March 26, 2006 -- Artist Qwes Lands in Miami for Spring Bling 2006 and Winter Music Conference getting ready for single release.

At a time in the music industry when artists are molded into cookie cutter pop images; where Rap artists resort to recycling beats and creativity is a rare commodity, Qwes managed to desist from the conventional tactics by creating his own unique concoction of cultural influenced music.

With a passion for music bubbling inside him at age 12, Qwes was certain a career in entertainment was waiting for him. At a young age his talent as an entertainer flowed naturally as he took part in school plays and talent shows. His street credibility exploded from his corner street rapping and dancing days and eventually led him to perform at some of the hottest clubs in NYC where he grew up.

Gradually Qwes grew into a performer, the help of his friend KAS pushed him into mastering the art of lyrics. However, Qwes wanted to ensure he would be ready for the music industry, to do this he attained a business degree which provided him with the essentials of marketing.

Ready to share his talent and equipped with the necessary tools Qwes was strongly pursuing his passion. Confidently convinced that his style was hot and his message inspirational, the driven young star offered a taste of his music to industry professionals landing him a record deal with Universal Music, the label responsible for hot artists such as Nelly, Keith Murray and Ludacris. Qwes released his first single "HUSH BOUNCE" a hot party joint with heart palpitating bass, killer flow, and innovative lyrics.

"Hush Bounce" was a successful introductory single for Qwes. It was a small sample of what he had waiting for his critics and fans. Other tracks on his upcoming album include an array of cultural and street influenced music ranging from Indian, Latin, Krunk and Caribbean Dancehall; they comprise what is to be the next #1 group of billboard chart toppers.

With much love and appreciation for his roots NYC, ATL and MIAMI, Qwes has shown he can hold it down for the streets, that's why the album features tracks like, "Twerk Sumthin" It has not only a West coast flava but the song simultaneously blends an East coast vibe with just the right touch of krunk. And just for the ladies he offers penetrating sexy jams such as "Like it like that."

Qwes is already known for his numerous performances at places like Club Mansion, Zoe's Summer Groove, Teddy's Street Hustler Shows, Blackmen's Magazines and Daytona Beach. His collaborations range from tracks with the Ying Yang Twins, Juvenille, Akon, to Ludacris, Nelly, and has worked with talented producers such as Scott Storch who has produced tunes for Beyonce.

Inspired to rap by his love for music, and the ability to share positive messages with the world proves Qwes possesses immense staying power in the music industry. Positive, driven and unique in his delivery, ensures that Qwes's position in the industry will be secured.

Summarizing his approach to the music game Qwes says, "The politics and money distracts artists from the whole point of music... "Artists should have fun with music, make people dance, display unique skills and entertain, and that's what I'm about." Truly gifted and not just another rapper Qwes is a perfect combination of a natural derivative performer, an articulate lyricist and a distinguished entertainer makes Qwes a force to be reckoned with in the Music Industry.

Rasta Hip-Hop group InI Mighty Lockdown Rocking Live with the International Peoples Democratic Uhuru

InI Mighty Lockdown to perform at the Five Spot hosted by the International Peoples Democratic Uhuru

Mount Vernon, NY (PRWEB) March 26, 2006 -- Sunday Mar 26, 2006 at 8:00 PM InI Mighty Lockdown will perform at the monthly Free.Da.Mic show hosted by InPDUM (International Peoples Democratic Uhuru Movement) at Brooklyn's Five Spot.

InI Mighty Lockdown--King Negus and Jolomite (Polo Dada), survivors of the fittest, a fixture of the New York Underground Hip-Hop scene since the early nineties are known for their groundbreaking single Faking Jax, produced by DJ Pete Rock. Their weekly underground performances in New Yorks East Village have made a recognizable mark on Hip Hops conscious scene. InI Mighty Lockdown has performed with Yejide The Night Queen, Dead Prez, Breeze Evah Flowing, Tania Guerrera, Juggaknots, Mr. Len, The Roots, and many more.

Their critically acclaimed LP's "The Keepers of The Flame" and "Conquerors" sold through their label Trus Fund Inc. are dominating the new consciousness of Hip-Hop. They are the founders and #1 in music's newest genre "Rasta Hip-Hop"; Hip-Hop music with Rastafarian inspired lyrics. This conscious genre is now becoming mainstream thanks to InI Mighty Lockdown and groups like I Zion and recently Damian Marley.

Free.Da.Mic is an InPDUM (International Peoples Democratic Uhuru Movement) organized event. It takes place each month providing the people an opportunity, through art, to speak out against oppression in the African and other communities while also providing a forum where we can begin to organize for freedom.

This art can be reflected through song, dance, spoken word, hip hop, R&B, reggae or pretty much any preferred vehicle which allows a message to reach the people while showcasing talented artists who unite with the focus to take back what is rightfully ours through education and organization of the community.

They ensure that we don't hear messages of struggle or organization for real freedom. None of the money made from records sold that are the creations of our people comes back to benefit our communities, instead the money made is helping to build prisons, military complexes and other institutions of oppression.

What makes FDM so different from other venues, especially those offering open mic/spoken word type atmospheres is that we understand clearly that white power uses our musical forms as part of the counterinsurgency against African and other oppressed peoples and it is our job to counteract this counterinsurgency by enlightening and further educating the people on a political level.

We demand community control of everything from the police to the microphone. Our music must be brought entirely under our own control and used as a tool of organization for the total liberation of Africans and all oppressed people. Come and hear some of the movements illest artists who said...F*@k a Record Deal.

Parents Beware: The 6 Top Modeling Scams That You Need To Know About

Tip sheet that lists the top 6 scams con artists use to prey upon young girls.

San Antonio, TX -- (ArriveNet - Mar 26, 2006) --1. Never allow your child to attend a casting call alone. Some predators pose as modeling scouts in order to gain the trust of a young girl and lure her into a dangerous situation. A parent or adult guardian should always come along as a chaperone.
2. Never pay an agency money to represent your child. If an agency is legitimate, they will receive a 20% commission after they have found work for a model, not before. If money is requested upfront, find another agency.
3. Never pay a photographer to create a portfolio package of pictures for your child. Portfolios are used to showcase examples of paid jobs the model has completed. A binder full of photographs is not a portfolio, its a photo album.
4. Never pay money to post pictures on a modeling website. Most agencies dont scout this way. If the website cannot provide the name and contact information for modeling agencies that actually use their site as a scouting tool, then keep your money in your pocket and walk away.

5. Never accept glamour assignments unless they come through a legitimate, verifiable agency. Many predators prey upon young girls and their dreams of stardom and use these types of assignments as a vehicle for getting girls into porn.
6. Never pay thousands and thousands of dollars to participate in a modeling convention. It doesn't matter how swanky the event looks, just remember your money is footing the bill for it. Get a list of the agencies that are scheduled to attend, call them up, and submit your pictures on your own. Use the thousands of dollars to go to New York and visit the agencies in person.

Emory Drake is a model and the author of the forthcoming book "Billionaire Baby: How to Make Your Child Rich & Famous," available at and in bookstores nationwide October 2006.
