I started this site because I had written an article about the Greensboro freestyle hip hop scene that didn't get published.
I was finding the music writing market to be really tough to break into
yet I didn't want to let my work just disappear. I also wanted attention
given to the artists that I had interviewed.
So I posted two articles, one that was included in BLU magazine, an underground music, arts and politics publication,
and the one that was never published. Then I put up some links to North
Carolina rap and hip hop sites and decided to see where I could go from
there. At first it was a free geocities site with an emphasis on underground
freestyle artists. Now it's part of what I hope will someday be a larger
alternative culture project I'm doing called netweed. But my energy keeps going into this site and I'll
follow the flow.
In the fall of 2001 I moved from Greensboro, NC to Austin, TX. I started
writing about hip hop again on a weblog at Hip Hop Logic but the daily grind wore me down and it became
an archive. But I restarted Hip Hop Logic and I keep posting links related
to North Carolina hip hop and rap. It's my way of keeping up with developments
in my home state and making a contribution as well.
I like having a site that posts every North Carolina link possible
(except for all the Petey Pablo links). It's good to have one place
where you can find as much as possible and then make your own choices.
However I won't post anything that seems extremely fucked up, hate oriented
or the like. So far I've only had one site I had to turn down for those
reasons.
If you have a site with any kind of connection to hip hop culture in
North Carolina please let me know about it at: nchiphop(at)netweed(dot)com
I look forward to hearing from you.
